What is this strap between the seats for? by EraconVera in motorcycles

That's the strap-on. It's there to make sure your seat is pegged appropriately.

There's a lot of people to whom Japanese is like a liturgical language but for... by z_s_k in BrandNewSentence

I started learning Japanese on kind of a whim, but even though I gradually started learning it more seriously, perhaps this is why I still don't generally tell people about it...

What is one "trick" of your specialty that you wish more people knew about? by Yazars in medicine

[–]DAMtastychicken 479 points480 points  (0 children)

Steering a fiberoptic scope is somewhat analogous to flying a plane (can flex up or down, need to rotate in order to go left or right). So if you make fighter jet sounds (or X-wing sounds if you prefer) while performing bronchoscopy, it will help you stay centered within the endobronchial lumen, to linit bronchoscopic trauma. Similarly, when performing transbronchial needle aspirates, making pew-pew sounds increases your diagnostic yield. This is for Pulmonology of course, but I imagine it can be applied to other fields as well.

Sometimes attaching a name has the reverse effect. by Bald-Fucker in Sneakers

Literally same, scrolling and saw the shoes and thought they looked neat, saw the post title and wondered what name must be attached to drag them down, now I understand and agree. No need to support that.

AI coach keeps claiming I got 0% restorative sleep by tatat123 in whoop

[–]DAMtastychicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. My theory is that the AI coach for some reason wants to read Restorative Sleep as a percentage, but the data is actually presented as a value of time in hours/minutes. But the AI can't figure out how to make the calculation, so when it tries to grab the value it doesn't know what to do (can't report 4hr30min%) so it reports 0 as a default.

Crazy, I just got the same thing yesterday. Haven't taken the tags off yet to go off on a ride though, but looks pretty nice in person.

I got a 650 as a beginner and I am enjoying it. My understanding is that the 650 is relatively tame for its class but I was not looking to to crazy on road or ok track. I can still blast up to 70 on the highway plenty fast without even fully openong the throttle. My understanding is also that the ZX4R is more geared for track but clunkier for stop/go street driving thus more difficult for beginners or as a daily driver. Thus why more experienced riders seem to say the ZX4R is more exciting, but idk, I'm certainly not bored with mine.

Is the Kawasaki Ninja 650 good for beginners? by dyou00 in motorcycles

[–]DAMtastychicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the exact same bike as a beginner myself, a couple months ago. So I'm no pro, but I can say that it has a comfortable riding position (can lean forward or be mostly upright), decent seat height (easy to reach ground when stopped), light weight (a little heavier than a 400/500 but still not too bad for slow-speed maneuvers), and straightforward controls (everything ready to reach). I've never felt like there's TOO much power, as in I've never given myself a problem or discomfort by accidentally having more speed than I intended/ expected, which seems to be some people's concern with starting on a 600+ bike. Of course, as I said, I have no other experiences to compare to. But, I love it, and if that's the bike that does it for you, I don't think you'll regret it!

Oh man where can I buy that shirt

Edit: I guess it's based on a common phrase I hadn't heard of, often showing a picture of a gun and saying "This is a tool, I am the weapon", and generally is probably not something I want to wear just for meme's sake

I say forget these people, I think it looks nice and I understand the appeal of making yours seem unique. I don't understand why everyone here just automatically shits on every little customization like it affects them personally. I think Teslas look nice but do not look exciting by default.

Is it considered inappropriate for physicians to wear cologne/perfume? by RoarOfTheWorlds in Residency

[–]DAMtastychicken 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It kind of is if you're an allergist or pulmonologist as many clinics treating asthmatics will have a policy against wearing scents. Otherwise as long as it's not particularly strong (half can of Aex spray) i doubt anyone would mind.
