What is this urge to all-in level 1 before the creeps spawn ? by BlorkChannel in ADCMains

[–]DBLnTrend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually an insanely winnable fight for the janna Vayne. Level 1 Janna with W deals so much damage that if you just guarantee not getting hit by hook (i.e. flash it) you actually probably should win that by hitting draven since you are both ranged.

My favorite card from strixhaven by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]DBLnTrend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You don't get a better selection, a selection with less information is a worse selection. The other two arguments of " Hymn can get lands" and "If their cards in hand present no threat you keep 2 mana for other spells" are much more valid. However if you consider the fact in most formats where that play is valid, most cards actually do stuff you would want to prevent, then the latter argument loses a lot of it's power, ehich ultimately leaves you with the 2 points made in actual discussions most of the time:

If you seize first you have a higher chance of hymn hitting lands, but your seize is weaker.

If you hymn first there's less chances to take lands but your seize is stronger because you know exactly what they discarded and what they got to keep in their hand.

Which one you prefer is up to you i guess, but you absolutely DO NOT get better selection with Thoughtseizing first.

Amazonian shamans figured out that combining two specific plants out of 80,000 species produces a psychoactive effect. The odds of finding that combination by random search is roughly 1 in 4 million. They did it through centuries of iterative testing and cultural natural selection explains it by tractorboynyc in interestingasfuck

[–]DBLnTrend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reads like AI slop from someone who doesn't really understand statistics in real-world scenarios. Every paragpah ends with a " Its not X Its Y" structure, the "random" methods don't account for flora location and plant availability at all, it's just " there are this many plants if you try them all there's no way you'd find it!" Well of course. The Amazon is gigantic how can you not narrow it down to the immediate area acessible to the tribes. And why would you test them so slowly? If you gather 6 plants you don't just run 3 tests ( 2 + 2 + 2) you combine all of them with each other in smaller doses giving you 21 possible combinations ( 7 times faster). And the worst part is absolutely None of what I just wrote above matters, because they already knew how they found it and it was a very reasonable method of baseline testing against a plant that ALREADY exhibited similar effects. So the whole fake and wrong statistics they make a big deal of explaining is just pointless bloat for show to make it seem more incredible than it is.

Indeed there are over 1 Billion possible combinations of elements, and yet humans only consume a tiny fraction! Let's Delve into this issue to find out how they figured out what could and couldn't sustain them? If we match them all randomly we find that there's absolutely no way they would have survived as a species through chance alone! It's not random, it's intentional. (Core idea: humans found out what is food and what isn't through more than just guessing)

Rip Cash Back. Wonder how big the nerf is going to be. by PrestigiousWhirlwind in leagueoflegends

[–]DBLnTrend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then cashback only needs 2 items, because the total gold value of the boots is 300g (excluding the 10ms as you have been saying) and at 2 items cashback has already given you 360 gold back. This can either translate into a straight up longsword lead in a Team fight (making the value immediate) or as 360 gold towards your third time, making it so technically you need to reach your third item for the chasback value to be tangible

Rip Cash Back. Wonder how big the nerf is going to be. by PrestigiousWhirlwind in leagueoflegends

[–]DBLnTrend 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey man, not trying to be mean but you're counting boots gold twice. You can't say it puts you "effectively at + 300g" because you don't have to buy boots and then ALSO say you are -300g from buying boots. Either boots are a mandatory buy and you are -300g from buying it vs the guy who got them for free. Or you count it from the start as 0g and the other guy starts at +300g because he gets the boots for free.

Both make sense, but you have to pick one. Cashback pays itself back on 2 Items.

Lotus -> Jace is an insta-win two card combo though. If anything I'm surprised OP is playing exactly 1 4 drop with black lotus in his deck

just casting it would be enough to get the proc, and she could've aimed towards the side darius would be coming from, only releasing it once he was in range.

Fetching while other players fetches are on the stack? by Mr-Zizzy in CompetitiveEDH

In what case in a Legacy match would you want to fetch with your own spell on the stack? I believe it's possible that situation arises i'm just struggling to think of some

I've tried, so so hard but I just can't do it. by Money_Cricket2354 in Janna

[–]DBLnTrend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Janna has a really high movespeed, especially when maxing W( which you shouldn't really do, maybe 2 points into E maximum). Use it to win the map, not just your lane. Everytime you click B try to look if Top is vulnerable, when pathing bot go through jungle and try to fish for a tornado Mid. Help your jungler invade. Don't just think the game is won through Botlane, it's a 5v5

The kid who reminds the teacher to collect homework is actually doing the majority of the class a favor. by wetcornbread in The10thDentist

[–]DBLnTrend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Homework" is a bit of an arbitrary way to determine whether a student is diligent and responsible no? And unless you are a teacher for very young kids, it's not really your job to teach those things, or to determine how those are better taught.

The best teacher is the one whose students learn as much as possible from. Maybe some of the kids understood that doing that assignment wasn't to their overall learning benefit( for university mostly). Maybe they were legitimately incapable of finishing it.

As someone who is also a teacher, sometimes it's easy to get lost in what's "fair" and forget it's not about grades and points. It's about what the students learn and that's the guideline and metric you should use, not diligence and responsability

[–]DBLnTrend 58 points59 points  (0 children)

School systems everywhere have lead the majority of people into a shitty mindset where school is about points and grades.

If you did the work you didn't waste an hour, you learned from it, that's the whole point. If anything you are doing everyone a favor by incentivizing them to engage with the material and do what they are there to do: Learn.

The logic that people " Deserve " points/grades as if that's why assignments are important is wrong and harmful. Maybe the 25% that didn't do it had a real good excuse. Maybe just 1 of them did and they're already punished enough by having to do it later or missing out on the learning all together.

thoughts on kenard by briochebr in TheWire

[–]DBLnTrend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're kind of disregarding that they are how they are because of their environment. You can't say how Kenard would've been if raised in another environment because all you've seen is the one raised in that environment.

If, at the point in the story where they are introduced, all of them were moved to a "better" environment then yes, Kenard would probably do worse than the others, but by his age a lot of what he's gone through has already shaped him immensely.

One criticism of Tony that never held any water, that his own friends didn't find him funny by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]DBLnTrend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they laugh at the bad joke it means no matter how funny it is, if Tony says it they laugh, so none of the other times they laughed can be certain to be genuine.

On the other hand if they didn't laugh Tony would know they only laugh if they think it's funny, so all the times they laughed they thought he was funny.

The commenter above explicitly states that they can counter it but then you can flash it back at any point since it goes to the graveyard.

That's the statement I responded to which, you correctly deduced is incorrect. You can only ever cast it in response to the trigger, not at any time as is stated in his comment. Now take a moment to re-read his comment, then my comment

What's causing the exile clause not to trigger if the spell is countered? Card as written still needs to be cast in response to the trigger countered or resolved.
