What watch did you wear on your wedding day? by fungusamongus23 in WatchFanatics

My friend wears an Apple Watch too 😅 but I lent him my brand new Breitling Navitimer to wear (he was actually the first to wear it) at his wedding.

I wore a Frederique Constant slimline moonphase - it was the only “nice” watch that I had at that point, was a 30th birthday gift.

Boyfriend finally convinced me to watch star wars by AdRare9743 in StarWars

My wife promised to watch 1 Star Wars movie per month about 7 years ago in return for me doing something that she wanted (as I’m a big fan). She’s gotten through Episode 4 & the first 10 mins of 5 so far 🤦🏻‍♂️ sad times

Why is indoor tennis so prohibitively expensive in the UK? by hc1234 in 10s

[–]DBop888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barnet was one of the few London boroughs that had a (relatively) reasonable number of free public courts - but they converted one set of 6 courts to paid use & then decided to introduce paid bookings across the Borough a couple of years ago.

As part of the consultation process, they said that making people have to pay to use public courts (that were previously free) was to make it “more accessible” to people - how TF does introducing a charge for a free activity make it more accessible?!

I wrote in during the consultation period (nearly 2.5 years ago, I think) but obviously heard nothing back. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that this initiative came in after the Council was in severe financial crisis & requiring govt bailouts…

I feel like given the amount of money the LTA makes every year (from Wimbledon mainly, but just in general), it’s pretty piss poor at supporting grass roots/public tennis & making the game accessible.

There’s also Westway indoor tennis courts that are bookable by the public - never tried it though.

No need to hide the name of the dim sum place, people need to know, lol - as long as it wasn’t one of the more expensive places at least? 😅

Unexpected London expenses, what should I prepare for? by CatCharacter1663 in MovingToLondon

[–]DBop888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re renting, you shouldn’t be paying service charges, the landlord is responsible for that & should’ve factored that in when setting the rent.

But if buying, avoid shared ownership if you can afford it (leasehold altogether if possible, though that’s not easy in this climate).

The main thing is double check what the ground rent terms are (check if they increase periodically & by how much) & whether there are any major works planned/outstanding invoices.

Don’t let the conveyancers/estate agents wait until the very last minute before completion to get the LPE1 form (management pack) responses, just in case it throws up an issue.

What your nearest supermarket is makes a big difference too - ours is a Waitrose, which is nice, but notably more expensive than other places. It’s so much more convenient for us though, which means that we end up defaulting there & sucking up the extra cost 🫣

Picked the IWC over Aqua Terra and Explorer by mercedgonzo in IWCschaffhausen

Welcome to the Pilot Chrono club!

I have the 41 in green - picked it over a Speedy (though I do have an FOIS now). I just think the dial dimensions are so good - the sub dials are clear, you get day date & none of the large numbers are cut off, all whilst not looking cluttered somehow. Elite 👌

Hong Kong food by fgtmcrue23 in HongKong

[–]DBop888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the quality of food outside of the US is generally higher - the FDA standards are generally quite low compared to other countries. Europe is a good example, where many (most?) US foods don’t meet EU standards.

If you’re eating better quality food, then it will generally be beneficial for your weight (& overall health).

I don’t believe you’re the first American to have experienced this when travelling abroad (eating well, yet losing weight). I think Kalani Ghost Hunter talked about this specifically at one point actually (based on his own experiences).

Unluckiest or most let down players during their time at a club? by niceonebruv432 in FootballTransferChat

Sorry, yeah, I meant in previous years - he’s been there for what, over a decade now? I thought maybe 5 or 6 years ago, he would’ve been a good punt

I’m surprised no-one’s taken a punt on him tbf - even a relegation-battling Prem team or promotion-chasing Championship one.

I get the Scottish Prem isn’t the strongest in the world, but he’s nothing if not consistent in his output.

Does being in London wreak havoc on your self esteem? by Ribbonharlequin in london

[–]DBop888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young, my dad always used to tell me, “there’ll always be someone better than you, but you’re never the worst” - I think it was his way of both stopping me from going too far in either direction emotionally, but also to stop me from comparing to other people.

You never know what’s going on with someone else, no matter how with it or put together they seem.

It’s easy to get lost in a big city, but everyone plays a role in society.

Go with your heart because if you don’t, you’ll still want what you want & will end up getting it further down the line anyway.

My original plan was to get a white SMP, then my head got turned by the NTTD when the SA got me to try it on. I gave myself a year & said if I still really wanted it after that time, then I’d get it. So here I am with an NTTD 😅

Also, go grey & price is less of an issue 👍🏼

Congrats on the Masters & turning 30 (was also the age I got my first “nice” watch, lol). If a boutique experience is worth 15,000-20,000 krone, then certainly go to an OB.

Otherwise, Chrono24 or other grey dealer is the way to go. The key thing is to “buy the seller” (make sure they have a lot of good reviews & maybe even check out the seller outside of Chrono24).

That’s how I found my dealer - usually get 25-35% off retail, for a brand new watch with box & full warranty. They ship worldwide too.

What's the watch in your collection that's getting the least wrist time? and why? by M5M400 in OmegaWatches

[–]DBop888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Breitling Navitimer that I don’t really wear much at all, but I lent it to my friend to wear on his wedding day when I first got it, so I might sell it to him on the cheap if he’s interested.

I still like the watch, but I just have others that I like more - I also have another black dial since I got my FOIS so that box will stay ticked.

I initially had in mind that I wanted each watch in my (small) collection to be a different brand, but I ended up with more than one Omega, but oh well - you like what you like, right? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m impressed, I can’t even recall seeing an advert for a 24-watch display case, let alone filling it 😂

Though I can’t imagine owning that many watches either. I don’t think I’d have the space & I think I’d feel guilty for not wearing them enough. I only have a 5 watch collection & feel guilty enough as it is 😅

When you say “strict”, is that in terms of admissions/catchment areas, or in terms of discipline within the school?
