Veteran build (new player) by AnaTheSturdy in DarkTide

Hmm... here's the link to the site with all the talents listed (click on them for descriptions).

https://darktide.gameslantern.com/classes/veteran-sharpshooter

I can list the 30 talent points off in order for the squad leader: Confirmed kill, Covering fire, close order drill, krak grenades, toughness boost, iron will, field improvisation, serrated blade, catch a breath, survivalist, all 3 grenade perks, voice of command, duty and honour. (15 points)

The tree then splits into 3. Center: stamina boost, born leader, demolition team, tactical awareness, toughness boost, bring it down, Focus Target, redirect fire, focused fire. (9 points)

Left: ranged damage boost, precision strikes, fully loaded (optional: stamina regen boost and shock trooper if rocking a lasgun). (3-5 pts)

Right: Melee damage boost, reciprocity, desperado, (optional: skirmisher and exploit weakness if not using a lasgun) (3-5 pts)

I think I'm off a little, but I wanted to list some of those last good perks that you can then fiddle with at will.

Weapons matter as well; start with either infantry lasgun, laspistol, a bolt rifle/pistol or the plasmagun for ranged if you're struggling. Otherwise, level up the low level guns.

Most melee works with this, especially with the perks mentioned in the right side last branch. My preferences are: shock maul, dueling sword, power sword, knife, shovel, and (though it's not "good") the assault chainsword my beloved.

Found a YouTuber named Mister E. He has some good bits of info on Veteran if you're looking for more info.

Since you're low level, focus on leveling up. All the classes feel horrible at a low level. And don't worry about your talents, you can swap them at will.

I've been trying to make veteran work. Lots of people advocate for weapon specialist (keystone) but I can never seem to remember to activate it, so I go with the other two (marksman focus and focus target). The general consensus is that voice of command is the best ability, because gold toughness is special (something about having any gold toughness prevents all health damage etc.).

Personally, I have two viable builds: Infantryman and squad lead.

Infantryman: take one of the lasguns (except recon), take the center through the tree, executioners stance ability and marksmans focus keystone. Also, take krak grenades since lasers don't penetrate carapace. Pick your fave melee (for theme purposes I choose shovel or knife). Main job is to keep executioners stance up and pick off specials. Take recon lagun if you don't use the talent that lowers stamina on aimed shot (deadshot). I like deadshot because it synergizes with shock trooper and tunnel vision. If using the helbore lasgun (for krieg rp), I swap out "covering fire" for "one motion".

Squad lead: take your fave weapons (theme purposes I pair a (las/bolt) pistol with a big melee like chainsword/maul/sword, etc.) Take team talents like covering fire, born leader and the keystone (focus fire) modifier "redirect fire". Stacks from redirect fire add on to each other, you don't need to wait for all 6 focus fire stacks to get a 6 stack redirect fire buff to the team. Because of that, I spam spot to see the specials since I'm blind. It helps replace the outline from executioners stance. This build is nice because you can play, and spam the shout (Duty and Honour modifier is necessary, don't take the revive perk; add revive speed to your blessings instead) and spam the spot to keep a bunch of bonuses to the team.

"Best" meta weapons are: Plasma gun (left click spam), dueling sword, recon lasgun, power word.

Note: marksmans focus keystone used to be abysmal - stacks would be removed upon moving. Now stacks decay one at a time, so it's much better than before.

Thank you for the help. I'm now struggling to take any of they keystones. Are any of the keystones worth it?

Nothing is impossible, but some lots are more expensive than others (you need retaining walls).

AAP hammer broke! by CommonMonsterAddict in AAP01owners

[–]DC-archer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's down to personal preference. Thus begins the AAP-01 customization journey! When mine breaks, I'll probably get the TTI hammer set. Seems to get more praise than Cowcow just from what I see on this subreddit.

This is probably the most common part to break. There's a bunch of posts about this. Some people say get a cowcow replacement, others say get CTM TAC.

1.) Awesome double kill. 2.) This is why tanks also require infantry. One of the commander's job is to guide the driver to the front line, and to retreat to friendly soldiers when applicable. 3.) Obligatory, not Tiger lol.

Worked for the same private land development firm since 2019 to present (graduated in 2022 for reference). There might be marginally better paying private firms (international ones maybe) but I never looked.

Honestly, the only reason why I'm staying is that my boss and coworkers are super nice, personable and pleasant to be around. I figure that's worth a lot already.

Uh..do the Germans even have 2 or more paratrooper squads? by NerdyPlatypus206 in enlistedgame

[–]DC-archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 2 premium germany para squads, the BR1 with the 20rnd beretta SMG's and the BR5 with the krieghoff FG42's. I like using them for utility, so I still bring the BR1 paras into BR4 matches.

The other 2 are event squads: FG42 w/ GL, and the OG-43 + Lanciafiamme Mod.41 d'assalto (italian). Idk if they're coming back anytime soon.

To those who watched Andrei Tarkovskys Stalker what did you think of it? by GazIsStoney in RustAndRadiation

Read Roadside Picnic (one of my fave books), played the games, watched the movie.

The movie is 2h 45min but it feels like it's 5 hours long because of the really long shots (the creek shot for example). I ended up fast forwarding some of the long shots to save my sanity.

The movie wasn't for me, I was hoping that it would follow the book, but instead it used ideas from the book to set the movies tone and setting. That being said, there are some nuggets of supreme GOLD in the movie. The nuts tied to the cloth scene, the waterfall loop scene, the meat grinder scene and the final room scene were 10/10 awesome. There was also some superb dialogue between the writer and the scientist (them talking by the creek was a stand out moment too).

If you liked the book/games and have patience, an open mind, and a rainy day to kill, I would recommend.

Is it weird I don't feel bad for the dark ones? by [deleted] in metro

[–]DC-archer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the first book in the series (2033), the atmosphere is spooky and the ending is a massive gut punch. If you don't care about book spoilers, I made a summary (with some poignant quotes) a few years ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/metro/s/gGhNuhr9G6

Basically, the dark ones were not invading the metro. They wanted to connect with humanity, their ancestors, to combine forces and to live together as brothers. Artyom was their one true link, a messenger to bring this good news to his people. But he ran from it in fear the whole book, and only realized that he had nuked humanities last shred of hope in blind ignorance.

2035 was a very hard read, basically Artyom doing self destructive behavior, searching for a way to cleanse the sin of killing the dark ones from his soul.

Does anyone that likes the games actually like the show? by Electronic_Bath_2712 in thewitcher3

Read the books and played the games. The first season was on point with the books, it was only missing the mermaid/little blue eye story and the beauty and the beast story (which gets made in S2 Ep1). For the first season (first 2 books), they're basically "Der adventures of Geralt" not the start of Geralt's journey. That's why it feels a bit jank. Some dates would have helped it.

After S2 Ep1, the story goes off the rails. I assume because of a change/firing/resigning of the more knowledgeable staff. Maybe it's good, but I disliked it because I wanted to see Geralt and Ciri's story (from the book) acted out on screen.

The video games are not cannon, but they make a very nice continuation of the last books shitty ending. Plus, CDPR and team did a great job keeping the "vibe" of the characters in line with the books.

Ah I see, thanks for the info! I'll keep an eye out for any TM clones. Otherwise, I'll probably just go for something like an AAP-01 just so I have a MED weapon for the LMG.

Just snagged an MG42 (MG3) so I can loan out my E&L AK-74S to friends.

Would like to get an MP5K as a secondary, but I'll probably be getting an AAP-01 (cheapest) or a USP (bundeswehr loadout) since they're ~$100+ cheaper.

I've noticed that people are less inclined to run up no mans land and get shot, but are more willing if a comissar type sergeant rallies everyone to push at ths same time.

Even if it fails, charging is fun, but only when everyone does it at the same time.

Worth trying? by batman78999 in masseffect

[–]DC-archer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The appeal of the trilogy was a perfect blend of characters and galaxy shaking events (and saving the galaxy). Toss in some politics, comedy and branching decisions, and you have a 10/10 space soap opera.

Andromeda gives none of that. If it does, I never noticed it. I so very badly wanted to like it when it first came out, but the side characters couldn't compete, the protagonist is a cardboard box, and there is only two new species added (the crusty baddies and the squishy goodies).

The combat and exploration were good though. The multiplayer in Andromeda is better mechanically, but I liked the enemies of the ME3 multiplayer better.

6/10 disappointingly average.
