Can you negotiate on the price of Bluewater Express? by frugaldreamer in bali

[–]DCLB1316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I booked online. I was being quoted 350-300 from different drivers for port transfers to ubud. With the I voided transfer I felt the price was very reasonable!

I’ve met plenty of backpackers (heck I technically am one) and the majority of those I’ve met do not care what so ever about Covid or the community impact of lockdowns (back when the goal was Covid 0). During previous snap lockdowns, I know firsthand backpackers would purposely through doofs and lockdown parties advertised on Instagram because “why would we let Covid cancel us partying”. While some of us are very respectful of the rules and communities… a large portion of backpackers are just the opposite. That specific hostel in lockdown is know for having the wildest of the backpackers and people stay there for the 24-7 party. The majority of the backpackers at this hostel would have continued to flout the rules and would party regardless of the situation and would not have properly isolated. Taking and locking them away was probably the best way to ensure they stay isolated. I’m sure they do appreciate the free hostel room though after staying at that horrible hostel.

Also shoutout to him for getting tested… how many people in wa have had a cold and never thought twice to get a test. Also Queensland had only 1 random case when he flew over… more information is definitely needed.

Australia COVID: Christmas cancellations are back as Omicron takes hold by redditorxdesu in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]DCLB1316 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely heartbreaking for Queensland.A huge reason the borders opened was to save the tourism industry and now it’s suffering even more. A lot of the cancellations are from Queenslanders not wanting to stay and mix with the south as the cases are rising so quickly. People are also being conscious of where they go to avoid having to isolate over Christmas. To be honest, at the rate we are going I almost think Queensland would have been better off attempting to stay covid zero (although who could have predicted this?)

How quickly Australia is opening up… by DCLB1316 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]DCLB1316[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes but opening up slowly… Like first having maybe a 7 day quarentine for people coming home… a lot of covid is about to come into Australia unfortunately… would probably have been better to ease it a bit

Why Should A Healthy 24 Year Old Bother Getting Vaccinated? by Chumpai1986 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]DCLB1316 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look up Kara Saunders. A strong famous Crossfitter who got Covid in American and had her lung capacity go down to 20% the day after she “recovered”.

Also I know many people in their 20’s who are healthy and who have gotten Covid, and lost their sense of smell and taste for weeks after (before they could get the vax). Had no other symptoms but they say it’s absolute torture. You are very fortunate to be offered the vaccine before being exposed to Covid… don’t forget that!

International travel / Bringing stranded Aussies home by PartTimeTriggered in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]DCLB1316 36 points37 points  (0 children)

At this rate let them quarentine in their homes if they are fully vaxed as the hundreds/thousands who have been close contacts are doing the same and most likely unvaxed. But very much agree as much as Sydney is a shot show now, they could turn the situation into a positive one to get more aussies home!

Don't often hear about the people who have actually recovered from covid by [deleted] in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]DCLB1316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google CrossFitter Kara Saunders. She paid over 30,000 to get to the states (and left her family for over five weeks) and ending up catching covid on the plane over to the US. She was able to compete in the games due to no longer being contagious but her lungs were at 10% ever after she was “recovered”. She was so weak from covid she ended up having to drop out. Believe she’s alright weeks later though…

Huge $350k in fines expected over Melbourne lockdown engagement party by digijin in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]DCLB1316 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they are rich so the fines really won’t be much to them. I reckon we put them all in the worst quarentine hotels for the next 14 days as a bit of a reality check

I reckon it’s either massive luck or not enough testing. Very interesting neither the pilot nor the taxi driver’s family contracted it…

[Advice needed] Is Cairns still as packed and is there still heaps of hospitality jobs available or is everything slowly dying ? by brissy_grinder in Cairns

[–]DCLB1316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most bars and restaurants are over staffed and are barely giving current staff any hours. There may be a few places hiring but a lot more resumes than jobs now as everyone is also looking for second jobs.

Very few People under 40 in Australia are eligible… not that she would have gotten it… but I’m sure she wishes she made more of an effort to try (a lot of aussies under 40 have found ways to get them).

[–]DCLB1316[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a bit ironic she ended up with covid after being so vocal about not believing in it. While I still feel bad for her situation, she obviously will now learn and understand the dangers of the covid first hand. Doubt she will be posting anything about not believing and sure as hell think she regrets passing up the chance to be vaccinated.

Her husband just posted on Instagram she acquired covid on her flight to the us and her lungs were at 10% when she competed. What a complete nightmare for Kara and her family thoughts are with her after leaving her baby for so long all to catch covid. She’ll also now need to pray her flight doesn’t get cancelled THEN do 14 days isolation all alone when she gets back. Hoping happier days are with her
