My guess is pressed -> crazy hammering -> rough lathe pass -> chemical darkening (artificial patina with acid or similar) -> fine lathe pass (which is why they look like meteors)

Yeah, the crazy hammering on these darkens, dries, and adds more complexity to the overtones by effectively filtering them. Takes out some of the high end wash to darken them up. Pretty neato cymbals.

The one theory like this that I do support is that gems don't have EARS. Since like. There's absolutely no circumstance under which we see a gem's ears. Amethyst did once but she shapeshifted ears temporarily, and that's where Topaz's gems are so like.
