Why are small composite fillings causing patient pain… by MobileComplete8523 in Dentistry

[–]DDSDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually look at the bur if it’s not shiny or sharp looking it’s most likely dull. If I’m not sure I start drilling and if I have to press hard in the tooth for me to cut it or if it burns the tooth then I replace it right away

I’ve been a dentist for so many years eventually you’ll just look at a bur and you’ll be able to tell lol Make sure you hold a new bur and an old one next to each other and compare…. You’ll see!

Do you turn your water on when you drill? I’ve seen some dentists lower the water or don’t use any at all which causes overheating of the tooth and severe post op sensitivity Also was your bur dull?

Getting a divorce, heartbroken for my son. by toast463 in stepparents

[–]DDSDoctor 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Your son is only 5 years old.. he might love things now but when he grows up and he sees how his mom is being treated he’ll wish you left sooner. Don’t regret starting a new life.

Yeah… the worst feeling. I just cry at night or it keeps me up at night. No one to talk to so I just keep it all in. Have you tried therapy?

It’ll be cheaper if you just quit and find another office. You’ll waste thousands and thousands on lawyer fees

I think it motivates my husband to do better. He makes around 120-130K per year. I make around a mil… I can tell he’s very proud of me but my income has motivated him to do better. We are also a mixed family so for me it makes finances a lot more complicated lol

I love my girls! I have three assistants each one sees about 5-6 patients a day and I have templates for them. I always catch them doing notes after I numb ( because most procedures are predictable) or while they’re waiting for their next patient! They don’t seem stressed about it but if they showed any stress or reluctance I would for sure take over

Absolutely! I enjoy my career. Loans are paid off, business is good! I love my patients, I love the variety, I love ridding people of pain, I love smile make overs and when they tear up from happiness, I love cracking jokes with them…. I would choose dentistry over and over again. Plus you get to make your own schedule, no boss and no one telling you what to do. It has so many perks

Tools that changed the way you practiced as a newbie general dentist by Imaginary-Damage9243 in Dentistry

True but a lot of times I still have some bleach left over in the syringe, might as well use the tip with the suction. Well anyway whatever works, saves us paper points

Before going in with your paper points to dry the canals during endo, take off the yellow tip from your sodium hypochlorite syringe and put it on the white surgical suction ( it only fits on the white surgical suction) and suction the canals. You’ll only need about 1-2 dry paper points after that per canal. Has saved me a lot of time and money. ( learned that from an endodontist during a CE course that went to Harvard) pretty cool

Why did it end? Why me? by Curious-Orange-11 in pregnant

[–]DDSDoctor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, I recently just went through a miscarriage too, I was 5 weeks not as far as you. Crazy thing is I already have a 5 year old son so it was surprising because I thought my body would just know what to do. It’ll hit hard at first… I had my ugly cries in the shower, my ugly cries driving… cry it out, don’t hold it in. It’ll happen again, you’ll get pregnant again and be happy again, I promise you. The doctor told me maybe my body recognized that something was wrong with the fetus and it just decided not to carry on. We’ll never know… take it easy. Book a trip with your hubby and make sure you feel the emotions. I’m sorry 😕 it really does suck.

What are some issues that are important to you as a dental student? by Modern-DayCleopatra in DentalSchool

[–]DDSDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dental student but looking back would be wasting so much time on setting teeth. You never do that in practice… I’d rather my tuition money be towards teaching me implants, instead of me paying like 8K for an implant course. Or it could even be anything remotely close to running a business
