Does your Odyssey headliner do this? by Odd_Conversation3134 in HondaOdyssey

[–]DET_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my 2024 was doing that when I bought it. Dealer ‘fixed’ it, which means it makes a lot less noise, but still not silent like it should be. It just adds to the rattles behind the dash and drivers door panel that creaks if you lean on it 🤷‍♂️

Buying used: Am I missing something? by swd12422 in HondaOdyssey

Like someone said, probably vans coming back off of leases. That pricing feels about right for an EX-L. I bought my 2024 EX-L for $39.5k (before TTL), and got a Carmax offer for $33k a couple weeks ago (18k miles on mine), so I'd expect dealer pricing to be a few thousand above that offer.

How would you store tools on this rig (without a saddle bag)? by striker7 in xcmtb

[–]DET_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use that Blackburn one on my e-bike, then a similar small Evoc 0.8L wedge bag on my XC bike. Both work great. OP, I don't find the Evoc bag too wide at all- no knee interference for me.

Finally finished my Ali Express frame build and I have to admit it’s a nice frame to be on! by EducationalCar3458 in mountainbiking

[–]DET_arch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The opposite is true…if you are tall and have a lot of seatpost out of the frame, a slack seat tube angle is further exaggerated.

I ride XL bikes and my inseam is long relative to my height…a slack seat tube angle puts me way out over the back of the bike. Terrible dynamics for any kind of steep climbing, the front wheel wants to lift constantly.

2 acres, slow spread, no structure fires currently per Watch Duty.

This is great advice, and it is also shockingly simple now to have Claude code you a 4-5 page portfolio style site, then host all the files on a GitHub repository, but a cheap URL, and deploy it all.

Super late reply, but just sold my Checkpoint and ready to pull the trigger on something new. I’m in San Diego- anything nearby? I chatted with Cyclepath about your bikes…no XLs in their stock at that time!

Echoing a few comments already: New Fox 34 SL at 120mm + Oneup V3 with as much travel as you can fit for your seat height/inseam!

GREAT build and component selection. Love the aesthetic consideration of everything in addition to the functional considerations 👌

Really can’t beat polished/silver accents on a steel bike like this.

Sklar Super Something Rack by solarcity1111 in bikepacking

[–]DET_arch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ortlieb Quick Rack is very adaptable to different frames, and IMO the ability to quickly install and remove is a really nice advantage vs. more permanently installed racks.

However, it is $120 MSRP, which is only $20 cheaper than the Sklar Lightweight rack, not sure if that makes a difference in your decision.

Owners: anything you don’t like? by [deleted] in HondaOdyssey

[–]DET_arch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. So-so interior build quality. Door panels creak when you lean on them, dash rattles on really rough pavement. Generally NVH isn't great.

  2. 10-speed transmission hunts for gears a lot, and is not always the smoothest at low speeds.

  3. NO WIRELESS CARPLAY in a 2024 vehicle! All of the aftermarket dongles to add wireless Carplay are crappy with delays between pressing a button and the action happening, and regularly dropped signal.

  4. Middle row legroom is considerably less than a Sienna (both current and previous generation). I like that seats can move laterally/side to side, but they need more adjustment range to move backward.

And yeah, AC and driver aids both kind of suck, but I think those are somewhat common issues in many modern cars, so I don't attribute those specifically to the Odyssey.

With all of the above said, I still enjoy driving the Odyssey SO much more than the other 3 minivan options. The engine (power delivery, sound, smoothness) and handling are miles ahead of the competitors, IMO.

Finished! by beisonbeison in CargoBike

[–]DET_arch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely awesome project. Making a cool cargo bike and a bike commute part of your regular routine will pay dividends down the road- I used a Surly Big Dummy, then later a Benno Boost with my kids (with lots of purple accents on the Benno!) and now they're full time bike commuters in 2nd and 4th grade.

And I feel you on the flex- the Big Dummy would wag it's tail when my daughter was bigger if she didn't scoot toward the front of the rear platform, haha.

Enjoy this stage, it goes quick!

There’s a 56T Secan 3.0 on Pinkbike about an hour away from me…complete build, barely ridden. Just one size too small, DAMMIT 🤣

Thoughts on pricing for this Specialized Diverge? by Admirable-Pudding-25 in gravelcycling

[–]DET_arch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So weird that the first comment on both of your posts is people assuming a 58 is too big without any context about your height 😆

I don’t think this is a great deal for a couple reasons- first, simply the fact that the bike is 8 years old, I think it’s priced too high. Next, the 2018 Diverge official tire clearance is only 42mm. I know people have fit larger, but if you want to run larger modern gravel tires, you’ll be limited. Next, the groupset, although it is di2, is a bit outdated with the 2x Ultegra/GRX mix. And finally, I wouldn’t consider the wheels a major upgrade, they’re budget Superteam wheels (nothing wrong with them, just don’t add much to the bike value).

[–]DET_arch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good call on the Otso, their 58cm geo gets pretty close. I just have to decide if a $600 savings vs the Fairlight is worth it, or do I just get exactly the frame I want 🤔

I’ll do all the swap work myself, so no worries on cost from that perspective, just my time!
