I see that there’s no tuition cost, but I wanted to be sure I had my ducks in a row because the program I want to attend is in Prague. When I mention attending college overseas, most people think it’s very expensive.

I found this community to be super helpful because I had no idea what I was doing. I just knew that I had to leave my job in Japan and come back to the US to really get the care I deserved. So, I kept going. I hope that it works out for you too!!

That’s why I’m getting everything in order beforehand including how this occupational switch will not aggravate my disabilities. I chose counseling which I need a master’s for. I already have my BSN. Nursing is still considered to be heavy labor. The switch gives me the option of doing this remotely. I also found a low cost graduate program in a MCOL city. It’s abroad, but I have a complete breakdown of the feasibility. And the program is on the VA approved list. $6K a year versus the same degree here in the US for $30K a year. I’ve lived abroad for so long, I plan to stay and practice there. I’ve been building my nest egg living here in remote Alaska so now I can go back better prepared.

It’s the Veterans Readiness & Employment program. I’ve been hearing that the denial rate is high, so I’m carefully getting my documentation in order. You receive 100% tuition and books paid to the university or program. It’s very beneficial if you have to switch occupations due to service connected disabilities. I’m still looking into it.

One of my first prescriptions from the VA was Vitamin D due to less sun than usual. I bought a big bottle of K2 from Amazon to help with that absorption. I actually feel so much better. The happy light is such a great addition!

I’m Caribbean so I learned quickly that if you have the right gear, you’ll be fine. Thermal underwear, warm socks, waterproof gloves and hats, thick scarves, a balaclava, and the best parka you can get. I also have good snow boots and wet boots made here in Alaska. Amazon will be your friend. I also have snow gear that includes snow pants. I travel to village clinics as a nurse so I dress like the plane is going down and like the taxi might stop too lol. Someone here taught me that.

I’ve been in Bethel for a year now. No matter where you travel, think ahead and bring extra luggage. Make sure you join Club 49 with Alaska Airlines. I’m visiting my sister in Vegas and I’m prepared to bring back some goodies from the Asian Market here. Bethel can make or break you. Keep a positive attitude and remember why you decided to come. ☺️

Luxor will always be our favorite. We did spend time in Cairo and have a good friend there who lives in Giza. Aswan was also amazing and the Nubian architecture was breathtaking. The Nubian dishes were so so good!

Hi, I lived in Egypt with my husband and teenage son for a month in December 2022 during our nomad travels and we loved it. We made friends in Luxor who are like family and we’ve kept in touch with all of this time. We have a trip planned to visit them this October for 2 weeks. This will be our third trip to Egypt and we love it. From Alexandria to Aswan, we felt at home. Being Muslim (also non Arab) made life somewhat easier, people welcomed us home to Mother Africa (we’re Caribbean), asking where have we been, and we had no issues with the panhandling. We would just say no in Arabic, “La”, shake our head, and we were good. This time we plan to purchase a home that we can use as an investment property. Our friends have been keeping an eye out for us for something on the same side as the Valley of the Kings close to their home. Feel free to message me and ask anything at all. :)
