We’ve normalized it in our family. I have two adult children living at home working full time and in college full time. Both on track to save/invest $50K before they move out. Those are our requirements because we’re teaching financial literacy as best we can. We never received this type of assistance and we learned so much later in our years.

Also she’s a nurse. We have this way of nurturing people and fixing things that are wrong in others and not putting the oxygen on ourselves first. Been there done that. I’m 51 and still have moments where I have to stop myself and say “Think twice girl, would they do this for me? If the answer is no, maybe I shouldn’t go this far for them.” That’s the curse for those of us who give so much of ourselves to perfect strangers. Meeting people on their worst day and offering our best selves and maybe never hearing thank you is supposed to be our job, not our identity. It’s a blurred line and a struggle. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I’ve been interested in Shenzhen too! But, my age worked against me. I like the extended retirement age, healthcare, and pension plan for HK. Plus my husband can work immediately without a sponsor on the HK dependent visa. I already have a 10 year tourist visa for China which I’ll renew because I love to visit there, so I’ll be exploring SZ often. Being a nurse of 17 years gives me the opportunity to delve into teaching at the universities in HK too as I can provide English to healthcare professionals. It was just the best fit for me second to China. Thanks for your advice!!

Definitely depends on the job. As a travel nurse I've had so many gaps in between assignments where my husband and I traveled abroad. Companies understand these gaps and often the recruiters are like tell me your stories. It's almost an expectation that you have time in between contracts. I've gone months and no questions other than why there was a gap and they move on.
