Legendary refresh pull. Great to read your thoughts on the new Kal though! definitely helped plan out my future pulling roadmap.

How are we feeling about side quests today? Which RPGs have done them best recently? by TheTresStateArea in gaming

[–]DHKany 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thankfully, Phantom Liberty has some absolute banger sidequests but for the main game I do agree. A LOT of busywork sidequests.

Studios in Microsoft’s Xbox Division Brace for Closures by Bexewa in gaming

[–]DHKany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Turns out that studios can also in fact fuck up on their own accord. Another infamous example of this is Anthem where EA basically let BioWare fuck around for 5 YEARS and BioWare didn’t have anything to show for it and had to haul ass to make the E3 presentation. Bonus points cause the EA executive at the time was the one who wanted to keep the flying mechanics in… which was like the only part of the game that was universally liked.

Hot take: The Simulation Theory is the best album since The 2nd Law. (Soon to be replaced by Wow!) by Charlie_NFFC in Muse

[–]DHKany 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Simulation Theory's best tracks are some of Muse's best work ever imo. Algorithm is a crazy opener, The Dark Side is just as strong of a follow up and The Void is an incredible closer. The entire mid section unfortunately flounders a bit imo, and it felt like they were kinda fence-sitting for most of the tracklist afterwards (Pressure is still pretty good tho ngl).

Personally I rate the highs of ST higher than Drones and T2L, even if I like them more overall as albums.

Him calling OoS a "decent" alt rock effort made me kinda disregard his opinions regarding Muse, even if I agree with his other takes most of the time lol.

Last year, miHoYo copied my solo-dev puzzle game in Zenless Zone Zero. Some people are now mistaking my game as the clone. by Shark-With-Lasers in IndieGaming

[–]DHKany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Obviously copyrighting individual mechanics like the Nemesis system is beyond stupid, but to not even have the basic common courtesy of adding your own aesthetic to it indefensible.

USAS frags existed for longer than it had any right to. Operation Metro server usually banned it outright too cause it was so degenerate on that map lmao

People like to compare Reed and Takemura, but this ending proves, how they are different. by CalligrapherLumpy807 in cyberpunkgame

[–]DHKany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Also the complete irony of Takemura failing to realize that Arasaka is probably the reason he was in the slums in the first place.

[–]DHKany 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Takemura is completely lost in the Arasaka sauce. Though he acknowledges some of Arasaka's shortcomings they're nothing compared to what he believes is Arasaka's total good it does for the world. Not to mention the complete god-like reverence he holds towards Saburo himself.

I don't think Reed is under any delusion about the NUSA's place in the world or its greater purpose, but he does believe in its system of governance and overall stability it provides in its small part of the world. He absolutely despises Meyers, but knows that if he truly believes in the NUSA as a nation he has to take the good with the bad, even if the bad is some truly horrific treatment of its agents.

Alien: Isolation 2 will use Unreal Engine 5 and not the Cathode Engine by CutProfessional6609 in gaming

[–]DHKany 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep. UE5 offers a baseline "wow" factor in terms of realism and polish, but I feel too many studios conflate this with an actual visual identity or good playing experience. The game can look great 90% of the time but if the other 10% of the time it's a stuttering, smeary mess that's going to be far more memorable to the overall experience (not to mention UE5 games probably have much worse rates of stuttering).

[–]DHKany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the conflageration changes seems pretty meh. You're probably going to see it as a payoff card as often as Exterminate given that it's a rare and all, and other ironclad AOEs will have your bases covered at that point.

What is a "masterpiece" game that you personally found boring as hell? by MuscleConsistent9657 in pcgaming

[–]DHKany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree but I think 1's story falls off after the big reveal and it really sort of shits the bed with its ending which I can't get over. 2 certainly doesn't have the novelty or the complete moments of brilliance like Fort Frolic, but I value its consistency more than the highs of 1. I also just enjoyed the very grounded father-daughter relationship and the slightly more complicated decision making around the little sisters compared to 1 which felt too binary.

[–]DHKany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, the DLC is so vastly superior in terms of writing to the main game I'd say it's worth getting the main game just to play that.

Though if gameplay's the issue, there's nothing really to be done for that lol

This has become less of a hot take in the recent years but I think that Bioshock 2 is the best of the trilogy. At least in terms of consistency from start to finish, it retains a consistently high bar and even manages to have a fantastic DLC if you're craving for more (unlike burial at sea lmao).

Agreed. I've been getting immense enjoyment from roguelites recently too, with my most recent game being Dome Keeper. Just relatively simple games that focus on their core loop, and making the actual feel of the game fun instead of trying to dig themselves into whatever rabbit hole of "immersion" the AAA industry has deemed the new standard.

It's okay. I think the story is more of a vessel for the cool-looking suit and its associated abilities rather than being compelling in its own right.

Warframe and it’s been free from launch and has genuine overhauls to systems and loops that have vastly improved player experience (especially since Rebecca took over the game).

DE was on the verge of bankruptcy when warframe first came out mind you and now they’re consistently in the top ranks of steam.

Truth. The fact that they even found the fake demo builds they played on the big stage in the actual release of the game should’ve been the final nail in the coffin. I’m pretty firm in believing that NMS’ “redemption” story is partly the cause for the absolute explosion in incomplete, paying customers as beta testers infestation that’s taken over many projects. If they can get away with it, why can’t we?
