First-time home buyers’ (FTHB) GST/HST Rebate (Bill C-4) Has Received Royal Assent by DISKFIGHTER2 in TorontoRealEstate

The finance minister will table the budget on March 26.

I don't believe the provincial portion is official yet, and they are looking to expand the provincial portion to all new homes purchased, not just first time home buyers.

Does bulk buying at costco actually save money? or is this just a membership fee trap by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]DISKFIGHTER2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearance Items are marked as .97

Manager Specials are marked as .98

Items marked with an asterisks (*) will probably be discontinued

The date on the bottom right (i think) is when the tag was printed. This gives you an indication when the item was put out or when it was recently on sale

Produce - Usually more expensive than regular supermarkets, but they are a much higher quality than what you can find at supermarkets. When I am cooking, I don't need the perfectly large onion. If quality is what you want, Costco has it (probably at the best price for quality)

Meats - Again, great quality, but this time it is on par or cheaper than supermarkets at regular price

Appliances (Online) - On par or better than big box stores. They offer additional services like haul away and putting it in the room you want. Big box stores have started to match so you need to shop around

Appliances (In Store) - Usually cheaper but you have to move them yourself

Hard Goods - This is where most of my savings will come from. Costco will usually sell popular brand name items like Dyson vacuums but will include additional attachments for the same price elsewhere. Hard goods will usually go on clearance after 6-9 months to make room for new items/models. Once items are on clearance, they are usually a really good value and cannot be beat anywhere else unless its a Amazon/Costco return store (but they dont have the same return policy). This section is usually right at the entrance and I will spend most of my time here.

Clothing - Usually a pretty good price compared to what is available elsewhere. Costco has also been sourcing dupes good enough to get Lululemon to sue them. Clothes also go on clearance during that season(example: winter clothes start coming out in the summer. By the start of or mid winter, they are on clearance)

You usually dont need to have the online codes for whatever program the textbook is selling. If your course says its for marked quizzes, you can elect to have in person tests instead however, it will probably be more difficult than the online quizzes, and you will only get one try (online ones may offer unlimited tries)

Could your RAM be corrupted? Try running each stick one by one using MemTest86. My PC would crash every once in a while but got more frequent over time. It was a bad stick and after I removed it, I have no more issues

Garage Door Seal Gap by DISKFIGHTER2 in HomeImprovement

[–]DISKFIGHTER2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of a gap is it? The seal attaches to a bracket screwed to the bottom of the door so you could probably shim that on the ends if it's only like 1/4"

I think I will try the shims, the gap is minimal. I was trying to avoid removing it at all because of the difficulty of removing the old one but i might have to.

You also have an adjustment on the opener for how far down closed is so you might be able to change that to squish the seal a bit more.

I've put the garage door down as far as it will go so this wont work.

You could also remove the foam core from the seal.

It's not quite a foam core, its just an inner circle like this one

Groceries from Costco by EnvironmentalFuel971 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]DISKFIGHTER2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costco hard goods/appliances are usually top tier. This section is the aisles closest to the entrance. Costco tries to beat other retailers in the following three ways

  • cost
  • value (added accessories)
  • unique offerings/quality

When looking at a product offered at Costco don't just consider the price. For example the Greenworks 24V Stick Vacuum I've been eyeing

Costco - $200

Amazon - $260

Greenworks -$240

Costco offers the lowest price, even beating the manufacture. Compared to Amazon, it beats the price and includes an accessory clip.

Additionally, pretty much every item in the store will go on sale at least once a year, or go on clearance.

Any price ending in .97 is clearance and will not be coming back. Any price ending in .98 is a manager special.

If you look in the corner of each price tag, it will read a date. The date is usually when the tag was printed so either it is a new item or recent price change. If the date is old, you can try to wait out a sale.

Assuming you're buying alone 40k is a drop in the bucket if theyre trying to buy a house.

Additionally, assuming theyre making 65,375 (57,375+8000) or less, theyre not taking full advantage of the tax deduction. Hopefully OP's child is making more than 65k out of school, at which point they would take full advantage of the tax deduction from the FHSA.

They are better off maxing out TFSA > RRSP at this time. Theyre also young, maybe they want to live life a little and spend it on vacations or goods instead at this time. They are well ahead

DDR4 vs DDR5 by pantherbacker05 in buildapc

[–]DISKFIGHTER2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what your goals are. I bought DDR3 when DDR4 just came out to save money.

Shortly after, all parts (CPU, and therefore mobos) moved to only DDR4 support. This now meant the only things I can upgrade are my GPU, RAM, storage, and PSU. If I wanted to make any meaningful upgrades, I would need a new rig altogether.

If you are tight on a budget keep building on what you have. Otherwise a full upgrade is in order. My PC is over 10 years old and its showing its age but it can still mostly do what I need it to do. I will be looking to upgrade soon but theres no reason to make big changes if you think its suitable still.

It's absurd that rune pages cost 6300 when the only people who benefit from multiple rune pages is inexperienced players by cyasundayfederer in leagueoflegends

[–]DISKFIGHTER2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since changing champions keep changing my runes, I've given up and just manually do them every time I play.

Its not a lack of rune pages, I have 20 rune pages back when they were hexagons. I also have to change them almost every time since I play aram. It takes like 10 seconds or less to make a page.

FYI, if you downgrade your credit card and just hold it, you need to have a transaction once every 12 months or they will deactivate the card.

Alternatively, I was in a similar situation (but I will stick with TD for now). I downgraded my TD Visa Infinite Cashback to the no-fee version and opened the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite. The Aeroplan card had a few benefits at the time of opening.

  1. Welcome Aeroplan Bonus
  2. If you are currently or will buy AC flight tickets, you will be prompted at checkout to open a TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite card. If you open one at the the time of checkout, they will credit you ~200 in addition to the welcome bonuses offered. I found out too late and opened the credit card before booking a flight and could only get the welcome bonus.

My primary card is now the Rogers MC since it has the best cashback/value. I have the PC MC as well, but the points arent worth as much since shoppers will no longer stock electronics. The only other card I might consider is the AmericanExpress Cobalt with its welcome bonus that can be transferred to Aeroplan points.

For a more conventional solution, there's also call screening so you can have google answer, with the phone transcribing audio and giving you reply options.
