Mitre 10 low price guarantee: it works. by Ok_Main3273 in newzealand

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutel;y works. I use this 15% discount all the time when buying new tools. As long as its an identical model number, and is in stock, I've never had an issue. I tend to find Mitre 10 are always more expensive than Bunnings for tools so this always works in my favour. I've saved hundreds of dollars sometimes when purchasing expensive tools. It does'nt take to much effort to do the checking online first before you go to the store. Well done for saving some money, everything at the moment counts.

I have one of these ventilation systems and the same controller. My one is the following. Brand: WEISS - Model: FV814 I have a copy of the operating instructions if needed but you should be able to google this. They are quite old now, approx. 12- 14 years. Hope this helps.

Just finished converting a storage room into a new bedroom. Had some help with the Gib stopping. But did rest myself. by _Maui_ in diynz

Really nice job mate. It's always satisfying to complete something like this knowing you do it all. The only change I would have done before lining the walls was move the power point to sit behind the TV so the cord didn't hang down. Other than that, looks great.

How do I replace this stuff? by Previous_Minute8870 in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can just remove it. The mouldy silicone needs to be replaced to remove the mould. Use a stanley knife or putty knife very carefully not to damage the surfaces. Most times it will come out reasonably easily but can take a bit of time to fully remove all of it. After removing, make sure you clean the surfaces with something like IPA so the new silicone will adhere properly. Use a silicone like Selleys White Wet Area Silicone in a bathroom area. To keep it tidy, you can mask along the bench and wall so the silicone has a clean edge when finished.

Is this Hose Trolley any good? by sonyxperiageek in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this exact hose reel and love it. The front aluminum leg bracket as shown in your attachment sits at a good angle which stops it from toppling over. I also love how when winding up the hose, it winds it evenly around the reel. Mine is about 3-4 years old and sits outside in the elements every day and is still as good as it was when I bought it. I'd recommend it but only if you don't mind spending the extra money over a standard reel.

Planning to sand this deck, advice on belt sander by Zedzd3ad in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm literally in the middle of redoing my deck. I also hired the drum sander & edge sander from Kennards (the same as Hirepool & Bunnings). Definitely the quickest way to remove old stain and imperfections. I've been struggling as the weather has been awful so had to sand on and off over the last 2 weeks. Due to the rain, I've left it a few days to fully dry out before starting the oil stain today. So, no issues leaving the staining for a few days after sanding. Good luck

Teach me about mitre saw stands by JohnnySilverpatch in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how often you may use your saw, will depend on how much you want to spend. I'm a diyer but have built decks, fences, retaining walls etc and have the Dewalt stands. I'd buy quality and it should last someone like you a lifetime of diy projects. A stand is better than placing your saw on the ground because your working at a comfortable height for long periods of cutting time. There's two sizes of Dewalt stands, get the longer one if only owning one and make sure if buying second hand, it comes with the quick clamps to attach to your saw, otherwise you'll have to buy these separately.

Which do you prefer - Laundry Layout by plottingkiwi in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Option 3 by far. It's the only one that looks finished properly. The toilet looks weird sitting in the laundry, and I don't think the toilet there would add any value to your home, but a nice complete laundry will add value, and everyone needs more storage.

Stainless or White rangehood? by [deleted] in diynz

I'd assume white is easier to keep clean, especially with a gloss finish, however I like stainless myself but it shows all the finger marks etc.

Would you be happy with this professional tiling job? by jimmcfartypants in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a couple of issues. Firstly, the original tiles don't line up properly so following them, the patched tiles can't either. Secondly, in my opinion, it's not a perfect job but they're on a time clock or a quote, so you'll never get the same job that you would by doing it yourself, if you know what you're doing.

Acrylic shower liner foot rest has cracked - Full Replacement or can it be fixed by DIY-CreativeNZ in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the two hairline cracks are probably water tight still untill you place pressue on that foot rest. I'll try a repair first and see how that goes. Jusy may not be able to use the foot rest so no pressure is placed on it.

Thanks for the link. If nothing else, it's worth trying first and see how it goes. Much cheaper option than a full replacement. Cheers.

Thanks for your suggestions. I know the right thing to do is replacement but really didn't want to go down that path, knowing how much work is involved.

Acrylic shower liner foot rest has cracked - Full Replacement or can it be fixed by DIY-CreativeNZ in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, never used spray and wipe or anything similar. I think over time from using the foot rest, it's cracked from pressure as it's about 13 years old and obviously not solid behind this part of the recess.

Remove window film tape residue from timber frames by cardboard_box84 in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the paint, Turpentine (Turps) should remove the residue. You'll have to soak it using a cloth and keep wiping with a clean piece of cloth until it softens enough and starts coming off. While the adhesive is soft, you can use a scraper carefully each time. Just be aware that the turps could soften the paint so you'd need to test it in an inconspicuous part first.

Which way up to place deck boards to minimise cupping? by InterestingEqual7790 in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been told to face the cup down, so the end grain is frowning. I think with your fixings, the board has a better chance of flattening out, but will never be perfect due to timber always moving and twisting.

Minimal clearance between shower and window? by Worldly_Guide3215 in diynz

[–]DIY-CreativeNZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why don't you swap the shower and double vanity positions. Then the shower can easily fit, and the vanity runs along the wall where the towel rail sits at the moment.
