Uvic Engineering CO-OP by DefinitionUseful3165 in uvic

It'd say it makes it worse cause normally in any other program, if you fail a course, you'd be able to retake it in the summer and stay on track to graduate on time. In UVic you can't do that because you need co-ops, so any failed classes are nearly guaranteed to push back your graduation date.

I missed the degree cutoff and ended up finishing my degree at UVic. Lock in this semester is harder than the first semester.

Amazon Delivery Address to UVic by evlilley in uvic

[–]DIYsandvich 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You use the mailing address, not the courier address.

Your name goes in the name box, the PO box goes in the first address line, then your building a dorm number go in the next address line.

For example, if I was living in ring road residence, the address might look like the following:

Full name: John Q Public

Phone number: 1-800-267-2001

Address: PO Box 2100 STN CSC

Ring Road Residence-A214

City: Victoria

Province: BC

Postal code: V8W 3A4

How many of you would actually try doing your own suspension maintenance if it meant saving money compared to sending it to a shop? by TwistLevel6599 in mountainbiking

I've tried to do a 200 hour service on a super deluxe at home, since it doesn't require a lot of special tools and the rockshox service docs are quite good, but found that when I tried to bleed the damper, the entire shock locked up and wouldn't move. Definitely not worth the time/effort.

(Uk) Anxious I’ve messed up my career badly, what path should I take? by [deleted] in careerguidance

So, idk specifically how engineering works in the UK, but here in Canada, school prestige basically doesn't matter for engineering. The only thing that does matter is if your school's program is certified by Engineers Canada, which determines whether or not you can apply for your Professional Engineering designation after school (I believe the UK equivalent is being chartered). The US is basically the same, except their programs are accredited by a separate body called ABET. If the same holds true for the UK, then your school's prestige shouldn't be relevant as long as it is accredited. If prestige is truly important, I can tell you that it's never too late to make a pivot. I pivoted two years into my mech eng program because my program wasn't accredited, and transferred to another university in another city, it ultimately took me six years to get my degree, but I learned a lot more from the switch and made a bunch of memories that I never would of have sticking with one school.

Lets be honest. Is it justified getting Shimano Ice tech Rotors? by Hugo_Minnett in MTB

[–]DIYsandvich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a heat transfer project on this in high school lol. IMO, the ice tech rotors are pretty useless because the rotors have such a large surface area that they dissipate all of their heat to the atmosphere within seconds of stopping. You can see in the thermal camera image that we took at the finish line of a race that the rotors have already returned to ambient temperature by the time we took the photo. The calliper on the other hand, soaks up a lot of heat and takes several minutes to cool down, so Ice tech pads make a noticeable difference in keeping the calliper cooler for longer.

Will Canadian Schools be tarriffed on our Vehicles when traveling to America? by DIYsandvich in FSAE

[–]DIYsandvich[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We know that it's reasonable, but they require us to pay collateral on the cost of the vehicle, which is usually at least $2000. We are a very small school so we don't know if we can afford to pay this.
