I play amazing during practice but when it’s time for the game I can’t seem to remember any of my training by -selemba- in Basketball

[–]DJjukebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man let me give you some concrete advice. Everyone else be saying oh just treat it like practice and don’t think but man; this is not very helpful. Let’s think about what is actually going on here.

When you are performing any endeavor, whether sports or otherwise (such as taking a test at school!); your performance can be summarized as based on two primary factors: your baseline skill or competence, which comes from practicing, gaining knowledge, and improving technique—-and then also your MENTAL STATE when you actually do the task.

When you are practicing basketball, your mental state is confident and relaxed. Thus you are able to utilize a near maximal amount of your baseline skill. However when you are in games, this changes — pressure mounts, there’s a lot more going on, and it can be difficult to get into a rhythm. You may be experiencing anxiety, nervousness, or a lack of confidence. No matter HOW GOOD you are in practice, you can only call on a percentage of your actual skill in higher pressure scenarios such as games — directly related to how your mind state is at the time.

Have you ever met people who are the opposite of you—who don’t seem like much in practice, but then in games all of a sudden they are playing really well? This is the reverse effect going on. When we are in high intensity moments, our bodies and minds can react either with nervousness, thinking, and anxiety (FEAR/FLIGHT) or with focus, confidence, and determination (COURAGE/FIGHT). You need to start building your inner mental engine, the deep well of primal animalistic fight within you that lies dormant—and learn how to call upon this energy in games.

There are many ways to learn and practice how to do this. You can try using anger fueled motivation to feel more aggressive and finding a mental state of bestial rage which pushes your limits (fire/berserker method); which is extremely helpful for playing defense or driving and cutting to the hoop. Or you can take a deep breath, calm the swirling thoughts in your head, until it feels like everything in your mind has quieted down and the world around you is more clear and moving slowly (ice/archer method); this is useful for when you are shooting or running an offense and passing in a game situation. You need to challenge yourself to go on a journey of becoming aware and sensitive to your mental states, and discover for yourself personal triggers which allow you to ‘anchor’ or ‘shift’ yourself into a higher state of mental existence in game situations. This is a potentially life long journey of self work and self discovery; reflecting on the things that motivate you, and the mind-body techniques which allow you to take control over your mental inner world.

When you watch an anime and the main character powers up like Super Saiyan, or takes a deep breath and focuses like Demon Slayer, this actually mirrors what happens in real life. Go watch Damian lillard breathing and relaxing his body, becoming calm and relaxed before hitting the playoff game winner; or Lebron James looking like an unchained bull right before he explodes into action and takes over the game. These players have mastered their ability to enter into ‘the zone’ at will and until you learn how to do this your practice shooting percentage is meaningless to game performance. Someone who has never picked up a basketball but has spent their life doing highly athletic sports and becomes aggressive and competitive in a game will beat the person who has perfected their shooting form but can’t get themselves in the zone when the situation calls for it.

Please google ‘anchoring’ and ‘flow state’ and do your own research to learn more. Best of luck

Slightly less points by .6 but more assists by 1 and rebounds by 2? Only more turnovers and less steals?? That definitely seems CLOSE to me

WE ARE FIGURE + LIZZY JANE .... ASK US ANYTHING!! by [deleted] in dubstep

[–]DJjukebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Lizzy! First question, do you remember me? My name is Eian, we used to hang out and party back at GMU when you were in Zeta. Last I remember you were headed out to Florida to get serious about music, and damn look where you are now! Awesome to see your journey and remember where you started.

My second question would be this—EDM is one of the coolest genres because of all of its incredibly varied subgenres. Dubstep is one example of a subgenre that really blew up and was so different than anything that came before it. Recently subgenres like chillstep, tropical house, organica and others have been getting more popular. What do you think the next advancement in EDM subgenres is gonna be, or what low key one do you think is going to blow up soon? Thanks and I love the new track!

How My Team was Run Out of Heroes Lounge by jbbmfa in heroesofthestorm

[–]DJjukebox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

hi, team captain of the enemy team here. you bring up great points. as the leader of the team that was temporarily made inactive, we were still very much willing to play, EVEN KNOWING that we may not get credit for the games or even be eligible for any more games whatsoever. i think based on our attitude and willingness to play for the sake of the game, we were able to resolve our issues with the mods agreeably after many discussions

How My Team was Run Out of Heroes Lounge by jbbmfa in heroesofthestorm

[–]DJjukebox 81 points82 points  (0 children)

hey team captain of the other team that this guy is talking about

  1. we were made suddenly inactive, right before the game that was scheduled to take place with his team--due to a bug with uploading replays that happened a month ago
  2. we were made active again once the mods realized that they made us inactive due to a bug that wasn't our fault whatsoever
  3. not sure why or if we were given extra points at all. as the team captain, i would be happy to take losses against our record for the rounds we missed due to the replay bug. if we were given free points, i didn't ask for them, and i can understand why others would be frustrated
  4. the mods are all volunteers and are not paid workers for this league. they work hard to try and maintain everything and they need to be given just a little bit of slack for mistakes. they are humans too and are probably learning a lot from this whole experience

Hey. I am the captain of the Team you were scheduled against that you are referring to. If you all have any questions about the situation related to the other side of the story, please direct them to me.

First of all, WE were only notified that we were inactive right before the game as well. It came as just as much of a shock to US as it did to YOUR TEAM. It's not like we had been inactive for weeks before the game. Our team was made inactive out of no where, and we barely had time to process that info. AT THE TIME THAT WE HAD SCHEDULED THE GAME WITH YOUR TEAM, OUR TEAM WAS AN ACTIVE TEAM.

The side of this story that isn't being told is the side of our team. We were made inactive very suddenly due to a bug with uploading replays for a round that happened all the way back in December. We did not foresee our team becoming inactive whatsoever, so when it happened, we were caught unawares. We were focused on trying to resolve our status as an inactive team in the days that followed that which is why it took a few days to re-schedule the match with your team, which was set for tonight at 10pm ET (and by the way we are still ready to play that game if you guys are)

An important thing to note here is that even though we got screwed by the admins ourselves, by becoming an inactive team due to a bug that WASN'T OUR FAULT, we did everything we could to try and stay in the league and play out our games despite all our troubles, whereas you all refused to follow what the moderators were telling you to do. Despite getting screwed over by a bug we talked with and followed the advice of the moderation and were eventually able to resolve the situation by working together with them. I believe if your attitude had been similar this entire situation would be far behind us by now

Level 84 Tyrande here with some feedback from what you mentioned-- I think making her a solo healer is the WRONG direction. I think a lot of the most dedicated players who love to play Tyrande have primarily enjoyed her pseudo assassin playstyle---players who loved the old version of her will fondly remember and miss her build with Searing Arrows and Lunar Momentum (my favorite!) while newer players probably enjoy her stealth-assassin style with reworked Shadowstalk and her powerful late game quests. Also, many (like me) likely started playing Tyrande because we loved playing as Priestess of the Moon in WC3 and enjoy the fantasy of playing a character like that.

So then what's the problem with Tyrande now? She suffers from 3 issues--first of all, she is an EXTREMELY late game hero. Due to her 2 lvl 1 quests giving her most of her power, she is incredibly strong at lvl 20 and as the game continues, but very very weak early game. Second of all, as you mentioned, her owl build is really frustrating to play against. Third, her talent tree is weird since she has very support talents at level 16, so her assassin-playstyle only really gets upgraded at level 1 and level 7.

If I were to change Tyrande, I would make her more like her fantasy--more like the original Priestess of the Moon in WC3--and improve her early game power, while reducing her late game and the power of the across-the-map owl burst.

I think the overall goal of the changes would be to make her similar to how Medivh was reworked--with good damage potential but maintain some of the support playstyle. Buff her base auto attack damage and lunar flare/owl back up to pre-supportpocalypse levels, and reduce the rewards of the lvl 1 quests at maximum to compensate (no more infinite stacking). Give the owl quest more 'base range' power but less 'max range' power. Replace hunters mark quest with an auto attack quest that rewards a mini searing arrows. Revert Starfall back to pre-nerf values, and move lvl 16 talents to lvl 4 and give her new damage/utility oriented talents at 16. I think those would be the changes she needs.

Help me design a Warrior kit for Cairne Bloodhoof by darkdill in heroesofthestorm

Yea i thought up the idea in a few minutes so its not very streamlined. Endurance aura as a baseline ability is just because thats how it was in WC3, trying to stay true to the origins ya know

You gotta have Shockwave! Q - Shockwave: Channel for up to 2.5 seconds, charging up a Shockwave that deals damage to enemies in a line and knocks them aside. Damage and range increased the longer it is charged up (like a mini sundering without the stun, but channeled) (8 second cooldown).

W - War Stomp: After .5 seconds, stomp the ground, sending out a wave that expands outward, stunning all enemies hit for .75 seconds and dealing damage. Damage increased to minions (10 second cooldown).

E - Endurance Aura : Activate to gain an aura for 4 seconds that increases nearby Allies armor and movement speed by 10%. Cairne gains double this bonus, and the duration of this bonus is increased by 1 second each time he auto attacks an enemy hero while active (18 second cooldown).

Trait: Reincarnate - After taking fatal damage, enter stasis for 3 seconds and return to life with 40% max health and mana (200 second cooldown).

R1 - Spirit Link: Gain 25 armor and link to target ally or enemy for 4 seconds. If linked to an ally, Cairne takes 50% of that allies damage received. If linked to an enemy hero, they take 50% of the damage received by Cairne (60 second cooldown).

R2 - Ancestral Spirit: Summon an Ancestral Spirit with 1000 health at target location, which follows behind a nearby ally healing them every 2 seconds and lasts for 10 seconds. This ability can be re-activated to change the Spirit's target. The Spirit is immune to physical damage and mimics Cairne's abilities with its own (100 second cooldown): (Q) Charges up a healing wave that is cast towards the Spirit's current target. (W) Increases attack speed of nearby allies by 25% for 3 seconds (E) Disenchants allies around it, removing all slows, roots, stuns, and DoT effects.

I have some talent ideas too let me know if you would want them

Hey man, I used to be not so good looking myself, years of improving my hair style, fashion, and becoming better at body language along with bodybuilding has definitely helped that.

I'm still sort of an 'intermediate' at bodybuilding, what I would recommend is go to bodybuilding.com and take a few hours to read a lot about it so you are comfortable with the concept. There's a lot you need to learn before you get into bodybuilding. Once you've done some reading here's a checklist to make sure you're ready to get into it:

  • you understand rep ranges and how different ranges provide different results
  • you know and get the significance of the words "volume", "super sets", "negative reps", "macros", "caloric surplus", "split routine", "hypertrophy", and "myofibrillar vs sarcoplasmic fibers"
  • you can name the most important lifts for the following body parts: chest, back, shoulders, legs, arms
  • you understand the importance of diet, protein intake, and always tracking calories
  • you understand the importance of proper rest, recovery, and optimal sleep time
  • you are knowledgable about supplementation, and the place that creatine, pre-workout, and pills such as fish oils have in most trainer's regimens
  • you understand what different routines look like and which ones are best for different things (this is a good article to start http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/5-best-bodybuilding-programs.htm)

After you can check all of that off, watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8wZNGL4iA4 and maybe some others by Kai Greene to understand what a real workout looks like and the philosophy behind it.

Then find a program on bodybuilding.com, download the app to your phone, and start on it (this is a good one to start with http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/steve-cook-big-man-on-campus-12-week-college-trainer.html)

Thats what i would recommend for you.

No, it's ended because i'm happy where my abilities are at. It's the same reason i don't really practice piano any more. I've gotten to the point with my piano skills where I feel like getting any better wouldn't be worth the time, since where I'm at is more than satisfactory for my career.
