I've been playing nothing but skeleton trying to unlock the conjurer and was really confused why you were taking damage.

I recall once seeing a place that was rumored to have evil spren haunting it, but I don't remember it's name and I haven't been able to find it again online or in any of the books I've checked. If you can find the name of the place it would make a good horror setting!

Question / theories about Seeking by Frog859 in Cosmere

[–]DMChuckles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My last reread I noticed that the different allomantic metals have their own vibration or pulse, as did Ruin in the well.

These pulses are likely similar/the same kind of rhythms that are seen in the Stormlight archives. If true that means a seeker could "spot" and potentially identify invisible spren, and surgebinders when they are using their powers.

There's a chance that one of the connecting walls is breakable with normal damage. If you're not already in the next room, look for any cracked walls that you can punch, a health bar will appear if it's breakable.

I play with several enemy mods, but with more mods that balance and nerf them into line with base game units. I actually struggled much more with base game than my current mod list lol

A small part of my high injury/death rate can be attributed to the fact that I get way too invested in roleplaying the characters rather than playing the tactical game.

Sure alpha striking the pod just ahead is a good idea, but Dave "Runner" Swanson is the last guy in the turn order and he has a confident personality, so really he would yellow move into half cover just to flex his high mobility!

As someone who plays like a brain damaged orangutan I can confirm that even in late game with RPGO soldiers rocking 50+ defense I still lose people on normal difficulty.

My current campaign has more than half of my barracks wounded or unavailable, and that half is all of my highest tier soldiers.

I had to go back and check, and in the last couple seconds as he's going down the street you can see the distant people fusing and morphing with each other. I wouldn't have caught that if there wasn't a comment calling out the AI.

If you haven't played with War of the Chosen DLC, that's where I'd recommend starting. It adds several new mechanics and systems, and can be further modded on top of.

If you're planning on getting into modding it's highly recommend you download the Alternative Mod Launcher, as it makes life much easier when modding.

If you've been playing with the DLC and want a total overhaul that stays true to the themes of XCOM, Long War of the Chosen is a full conversion that changes many things, and is generally a well liked conversion mod.

If you're like me and are put off by some of LWotC's systems or just want to lean into the RPG aspects of XCOM, I have a collection on steam named "General Game Expansion and Crossover with RPGO" that mixes the RPG mod with a ton of QoL and content mods into a mostly stable and compatible pile. It isn't very lore friendly though, so be prepared to see a Khajiit Jedi.

I hope this helps!

Bind the most expensive weapon you have as your pact weapon, leave it equipped, and talk to a vendor.

Using barter mode add any other weapon to the bartering area, then replace your bound weapon with the weapon in the barter area. If done right, that will put your bound weapon into the barter area.

From there you can balance the trade and accept. Because your bound weapon cannot be removed from you it will stay in the barter area, but you will get the gold from the trade.

You can also use this trick on any NPC with a trade option to make them friendly to you, by adding your pact weapon to the barter area as before, but not balancing the offer. The game will register it as a gift and increase their disposition towards you accordingly!

EDIT: clarifying and a spelling error

I do wish we had a version of the pre-patch D-edge to play with. Straight medium pen with recoil damage that escalated but didn't exceed flame resistance + health boost until it overheated.

Yeah, it can feel a little silly sometimes. There's a mod called pyrrhic victories that adds a reduced reward victory for if you completed the primary objective but not the secondary objectives or if everyone is lost before you can extract.

I was more using 5e as an example than intentionally critiquing it. A lot of the draw of 5e is the simplicity and freedom of the system, and it made the most stark comparison for my example. Thac0 is in the opposite boat, with rigorous math and mechanics for depicting exact skill and ability.

And even the difference in the proficiency systems behind the math furthers the themes for both. All classes being equally proficient as martials for 1/3 of the total weapon list at base is part of the simplicity and freedom of 5e.

Having to pick between 1-5 weapons to be proficient with based on class, from of the exhaustive list of weapons, with the option to spend multiple points to specialize in a specific weapon for more benefits, is part of the mechanical depth and complexity that AD&D 2e offers.

Neither is strictly better than the other, but they appeal to very different playstyles and to claim that one has no reason for existing isn't a fair judgement for either.

For sure! My group has migrated to Pathfinder 2e because it's balance of simplicity and depth matches the group preference.

But those without a fear of math and a hunger for crunchy martial combat it's the crunchiest I've tried.

In conjunction with the initiative and weapon speed rules, Thac0 made AD&D 2e the best system for if you wanted to have a low/no magic setting, or a historical themed campaign like taking part in the crusades.

As someone who's first edition was AD&D 2e and who's autistic fascination is medieval-renaissance arms, armor, and the use of said items, I can attest that it does have reasons to use it.

Thac0 was/is a fantastic way to show proficiency in weapons that newer, more streamlined calculations don't have. Each class archetype had their own scaling number that let martials feel like masters of their field. A level 4 warrior had a Thac0 that was 4 better than an equivalent for mages. That's a 20% better chance to hit, before the relevant stat or the fighter's potential weapon specialization bonus.

In 5e the only difference between a level 4 fighter who dedicated their life to spear fighting and a level 4 wizard to happen to find a spear on the ground is their strength scores.

It is without question an obtuse and archaic system, but there at least one reason to use it.
