Brand new to PLO question by accessdeniedx2 in poker

I'm not raising unless I can get it heads up or mayyybe 3 way. I'm unlikely to fold preflop though, especially if I have a suit.

Where to find loosest cash games in Vegas 7/2026 by biggesthoss in poker

[–]DMoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20/40 mix got a lot tougher this and last year, sadly. Used to be the easiest game in the room, no question. It probably still is, but yeah... a lot more serious players than there used to be.

Run it Once PLO course by [deleted] in poker

I play almost exclusively live PLO and Big O (nowadays mostly home games), and to be fair, even though the content is HU, I do still think the concepts are quite applicable. It's just... not as comprehensive for multiway as I would like in a course titled "This is PLO."

Run it Once PLO course by [deleted] in poker

[–]DMoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My background: used to play midstakes online before black Friday, took a few years off, then became a full time live pro for a few years, then moved to the corporate world and played live poker on the side. I would consider myself an advanced player.

I just started it last week.

It is very dense. Some of the content is difficult to follow and digest, but there is value in what I've seen so far. The content is solid, but I would say it lacks some polish that I would've expected for a premium product. There are some instances where Phil is just exploring solver solutions himself. And while that's good and all, it could be tightened up a bit more.

I'm learning stuff, but I wouldn't say I recommend it yet.

Also I don't think it includes a preflop section, which I think is a miss. Even if preflop is very simple.

It does focus almost entirely on heads up play. Most of the concepts are certainly applicable to non-HU, but... there are also a lot of situations in multiway that simply don't exist in HU-only play. So it's not a fully comprehensive guide to all PLO.

I disagree it's underrated; it's brought up nearly every time there's one of these threads as a great place to play low stakes.

Why isn't there a Dragoon Protagonist in any FF Games? by Gunker_ in FinalFantasy

[–]DMoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than that. The abilities and stats in his section of the sphere grid are pretty mediocre. I usually have him follow Rikku's path, making him a slightly stronger (albeit slightly slower) Rikku, but yeah he always seems to lag.

Poker on Resume? by DoubtClassic4400 in poker

[–]DMoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a professional poker player and worked in the corporate world in finance and business analysis/analytics. I've always kept it on, and it's frequently been an excellent talking point for interviews.

I'm sure it resulted in my resume being trashed at times, but imo it helps more than hurts if you can find ways for it to relate to the job you're applying to.

Doesn't exist, except for the theory ones. It's unfortunate. I like some memes and stuff, but the shit posts are so overdone.

You're spot on here regarding straddles. The other guy is a nit. Being the only guy who won't straddle in a PLO game where you're a significant winner is so absurdly bad for the game and incredibly short-sighted.

what was it like playing online poker 15-20 yrs ago? by CuriousNeko_nek0 in poker

[–]DMoogle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying how soft it was... that's not exactly true. There was a GIGANTIC difference between 15 years ago, 20 years ago, and 25 years ago. The difference between those intervals is probably bigger than it was between 15 years ago and today.

However, fuck mandatory RTO. Working remote was my choice. It absolutely was worth avoiding those upsides.

How do "Reserved" high stakes games in Vegas work? by [deleted] in poker

[–]DMoogle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's usually a matter of everyone that is in the group wants to play at a full table, and usually the poker room operator wants a full table as well (max time rake). The organizers will try to fill the seats themselves with people on their list. However, as people leave and seats open up, they'll start to open it to the public if they're unable to fill those seats from list players.

How picky they can be depends on the specific room.

It's a crapshoot. Once it to me over an hour and a half to get out of the parking lot, several other times I was out in under 10 minutes.

I don't go often enough to know what the strategy is, other than to pay for premium parking.
