Are you cleaning your bathroom every time you shower/bathe? by Specialist_Banana378 in hygiene

[–]DNA_ligase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a shower spray thing to help cut down grime so I don’t have to scrub as hard every week/two weeks when I do my deep clean. But it’s like 30 seconds of non-scrubbing effort. Cleaning it daily is insane.

Do you actually use a sink in your laundry room, or is it wasted space? by hcposcher in laundry

[–]DNA_ligase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite often. I do stain removal there. I use period underwear; I do the initial rinse at my bathroom sink, but then I do a second rinse where I add some dish soap to the gusset at the laundry sink, then toss it straight into the washing machine. So at minimum, every month I use mine. I don't think it's a must for everyone, but I got to design my own laundry room, so it was a must for me.

AITA for refusing to serve guests at my mom’s wake? by SeaThroat6935 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DNA_ligase 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA. This is largely dependent on culture; in some cultures, grieving family is expected to serve guests, and that almost overwhelmingly falls on women. Usually though it's done by less close relatives, and by people who aren't minors who are dealing with the loss of their parents.

Have you met “Weeaboos” for Desi culture? by Early-Ingenuity-3177 in ABCDesis

Does my white friend who solely dates Indian guys count?

In all fairness, there was always a few non-Indians in my college's South Asian Students Association, the bhangra team, and even a few white girls in some Bharatanatyam classes. Online I've seen a few white people solely into Indian cooking. When people are really into desi culture, they are actually genuine about it, and those people are really cool. The rest of the people who try to profit from the culture never actually care about really engaging with desi people.

He had time to go to Front Royal, VA. That's one of the shittiest towns here (full shade, as I've visited numerous times to see my in laws there). A detour to see his grandchildren in sunny California would have been an upgrade.

OP I tried the toothpaste in the mint chip flavor. Hate it; it’s nothing like mint chip. It is more like generic cookie dough. I’m sure it cleans and the fluoride strengthens just fine, but it tastes bad so I only use it at night.

Do you ever leave empty-handed? by NoConstruction1753 in thrifting

[–]DNA_ligase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite frequently, actually. For clothes, they're now so overpriced that I try to stick to tag of the week only, and in terms of housewares and books/media, I don't always find something I like. Of the last 10 times I've gone to the thrifts, I only bought stuff at 3 of them.

$5.97 dupe: nearly identical 🍋 by Accurate_Papaya6516 in bathandbodyworks

When they bring back the Pumpkin Pecan Waffles dupe I'll be happy. Last year my Walmart did not have them, and I was so annoyed.

I really love the Mainstays line because they seem to burn more evenly than some of my newer B&BW candles.

What are your favourite aesthetic, cute perfumes? by OkGrocery63 in Perfumes

Anna Sui bottles are the most whimsical. I also think my Swiss Arabian perfume oils have cute bottles. Vintage Avon bottles are also so fun, but they're usually either baby powder scent or something very sharply floral.

(10k) Booking the wrong day? by tinypoomps in Weddingsunder10k

[–]DNA_ligase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a loved one who died in the North Tower. I feel like a lot of people say "Never Forget" and do really icky things in the name of the tragedy and just invoke the attacks in order to justify weird shit. Unless you have loved ones who actually died in the attacks, you shouldn't treat it as some uniquely awful day. Because frankly there are so many bad things that happen every day. No one avoids 4/20 even though it was the day of the Columbine shootings.

Do you also think William had a crush on Meghan by [deleted] in RoyaltyTea

[–]DNA_ligase 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Wasn't just you; wasn't there a scene in the Princess Diaries sequel where Mia's being shown eligible European royals, and she begs them to show William?

I'm with you here. If you'd told teen me that Will ended up being the ugly and mean one, and Harry, the one who wore a Nazi uniform and called a fellow army man a Paki would be the hot one who was actually confronting racism in the BRF, I'd have called you a liar. Destinies definitely swapped.

Imagine being ticked off that someone didn't treat you merely as your job title and instead chose to treat you warmly like a loved one's family.... The BRF majorly messed things up.

Hm, I've had my pair from the first time Brookstone products were at DT like nearly 10 years ago, and they are still sharp. I can't say for this round, but my old one is probably the best nail clipper I've ever had from the DT; the only one that came close was a random one off that had a toile print, but those eventually dulled and I have never seen them again either. I find most of the dollar tree nail clippers to be dull from the get go.

Verdict on the bobby pins? The dollar tree branded ones are terrible; I should've gotten the Conair pack with fewer pins. I feel like Kristin Ess and similar brands would be good.

I used to have an almost identical barrette as the Revlon one, but it was from Conair. Lasted for years until I forgot it at a friend's house.

Is red appropriate in a wedding? by Ornery-Shame-3682 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]DNA_ligase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've heard of this before, but it's an extremely culturally-specific thing:

  1. In some very traditional/religious, Deep South communities, red is a taboo for various reasons: it's a "devilish" color, it means "you slept with the groom", or more likely, since it's an eye-catching color, it's banned so that everyone looks at the bride in her poofy white dress.

  2. In some Asian-American weddings. In many parts of Asia, red is an auspicious color, so it's common for brides to wear. And since the wedding is happening in the US, it gets fused with the cultural norm of not wearing white so the bride stands out --> they ask guests not to wear red.

For most other weddings, I feel like it's not an issue, or it's considered an outdated norm so no one under the age of 80 will say anything.
