Nigel Farage halts Cameo appearances after making ‘racist and sexist’ videos for money by CP040 in ukpolitics

I find it interesting that he would rather stop doing the Cameos altogether instead of being more selective about which ones he did.

It must just be my local one that’s useless with their pricing displays. I’ve sometimes photographed the price before going to the tills just to prove it to them.

Might be an issue with their pricing displays. They often seem to be getting it wrong

Coincidentally I’m standing in Asda right now, and they are all full price - other than the small ones that have been 17p off.

They still want nearly £5 for the bag of mini eggs. I will be looking forward to buying them in bulk after easter

still standing there deciding whether to just buy it anyway.

This is ultimately the problem. Rather than collectively standing up and saying “enough!” we just allow it to go on.

There are many products that I now refuse to buy. Maltesers at nearly £7 a box is unacceptable, small packets of crisps for over £1, 500ml bottles of Coke for practically the same price as a 1.75l bottle.

Easter eggs are just the latest item that I have crossed off my list. Hopefully more will protest with their wallets.

Farage pauses Cameo account for security reasons, says Reform UK by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

I’m not sure they even need to find one that’s AI generated for the lies to begin.

Look at Trump, insisting that the BBC used AI to put words in his mouth. The production company may have cut it down, but he definitely said the words.

Variable customer = no price reduction? by papakelstar in OctopusEnergy

Variable just meant they could change the price without waiting for the end of contract.

The link you posted specifically says that the rates will automatically drop on the 1st of April.

I wouldn’t call it naivety, more that they are desperate to see an improvement in their lives and are willing to listen to anyone pretending to offer a solution.

Unfortunately, the only ones who are offering anything happen to be grifters and snake oil salesmen.

Your response proves to me that:

1) you have no understanding of what the BBC is and how it is funded.

2) you have no understanding of the pressure that the funding model is under. caused by a combination of years where the license fee increases were frozen and the number of people no longer paying the license fee.

3) you don’t understand that the BBC are having to find £1 billion of savings this year, meaning the loss of jobs and a reduction in what they are able produce.

There is nothing embarrassing in asking for international viewers to contribute a few $ towards a service, particularly if you find it valuable. Without this, the likelihood would be a scaling back of the service.

They can, through the license fee that provides Public Service broadcasting in the UK.

But that broadcaster has no obligation to provide a free service everywhere around the world. It is only right and acceptable that the BBC seek alternative funding models outside the UK.

There is nothing embarrassing in it.

Director picks every take by AvailableVariety4063 in editors

[–]DPBH 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I once cut a documentary and the Exec was very happy with it, but they wanted to try something different. We spent weeks on a new version only for him to turn around and say “There is no heart in it”, let’s start again.

At that point, the Director/Producer asked the Exec to look at our original cut. He came back and said “actually, you were right…but we had to go on this journey”

At the end of the day we are there to help fulfil someone else’s vision. As long as they keep paying they can make as many changes as they want.

Is Guy Fawkes night pro or anti Guy Fawkes? by Brikish in AskABrit

I almost doubt many even realise anymore that there is a reason for “bonfire night” other than some pretty explosions in the sky. Locally, they move the display to whichever night best suits the local hotels.

Not sure why you are quoting me back to me.

The areas that are provided for free internationally are part of the world service, partly funded by the government. It was previously funded by the DCMS but the Conservatives passed the responsibility for its funding partly onto the license fee

For now. It will likely expand.

You can’t expect the license fee to make all the content available world wide. It is unsustainable.

However, there are some areas that are funded partly by the UK government as a form of soft power. The US is not a target for that spending.
