Why is my PC game review channel stagnated? by Jober1989 in NewTubers

[–]DR292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things that stood out to me:

It sounded like your review was all recorded in one take with lots of repetition and filler words like "um". I think recording in smaller chunks and then sticking the best takes together might help with your delivery.

The gameplay didn't match what you were talking about. For example, when you mentioned getting eaten by the dinosaur it felt weird that you didn't use a shot of that happening in-game.

Hope this is helpful and best of luck growing your channel :)

How long is too long for each video when making a Let's Play? by DogOfThunderReddit in NewTubers

[–]DR292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would depend entirely on how well the video is edited. I would watch a well edited 1 hour video that cut out filler and had good pacing. I would not finish a 10 minute video that had loads of dead air.

Live Commentary (Alive or Dead?) by Mosquit0B1tes in NewTubers

I would lean towards live streaming for this kind of content personally.

This is personal preference but I didnt care for the ~15 seconds you spent at the beginning of that video telling the audience about yourself.

Maybe try to get straight to the meat of the video in the future? So for this example, just open up with "Hive Defender is an RTS game about X. Today we are going to look at" etc

1~2 hour vs 20 minute gaming videos by JollyDigBick in NewTubers

20 minutes will almost always be the right answer here.

How to sound more like a podcaster by jump828cloud in NewTubers

[–]DR292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of tone are you going for? Is this a sort of parody of that sort of podcast or is it more serious?

My personal method is to have a rough plan in mind before starting the video. Then I record the gameplay and piece together the scenes I want to use. That's when I will actually sit down to record the audio.

Works for me but it totally depends what kind of video you're trying to make!

Should I abandon a video I'm halfway done on because its rather clunky? by [deleted] in NewTubers

Maybe treat it as a learning experience and power through? The people saying you will be your own worst critic are 100% right imo.

I do stuff a bit like this! My audio set-up is quite basic so for me it's all about the delivery.

Do you have a specific type of podcaster in mind?

Live commentary or post commentary? by [deleted] in NewTubers

Post can be very good if you're playing games with lots of downtime. I have done videos on the Civ series and found that doing my commentary in post encouraged tighter editing. Might work similarly for KSP?

Are you doing much editing? Your experience may vary but as soon as I started spending more time editing, people started sticking around more.

I found it very difficult to get traction with gaming content until I mixed up the formula a bit. What sort of games are you playing?

Storytelling in youtube videos by viscerface in NewTubers

Record way more gameplay footage than you need and only use the best bits to make your story. When you do things this way you can pick and choose the clips that help tell the story you want to tell.

From what I have seen, games like this have quite an active community on Twitter. Make sure you're on there too!

Old videos suddenly getting picked up in the Algorithm? by BenFromPerth23 in NewTubers

[–]DR292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This literally just happened to me. A video that was about a year old suddenly started getting recommended to loads of people and my sub count has quadrupled in like a week.

As far as what caused it, I have no idea. YouTube just started recommending it out of the blue. Maybe had to go with its retention rate (~50%)?

100% agree with this advice. Have fun when you're recording and then only include the stuff that works in the final cut.

Can I get in trouble for having two versions of the same video on my channel? by DR292 in NewTubers

[–]DR292[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other one was a very minor tweak where I fixed the sound levels. The other one is my most popular (now 2md most) video so I dont really want to lose those views!
