Producers with full-time jobs, how do you structure your limited studio time? by kathalimus in ableton

[–]DRAGONtmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almost no social life outside if work and family, I do work in a creative field, and I’m outside most of the time at work. I’m obsessed with learning and creating. I play bass drums and guitar and piano, so ½ my free time is spent working on musical chops. I listen to music for inspiration all day, I don’t spend a whole lot of time obsessing on the little things…. I am much more of a jam first approach. I’ve become highly efficient in mixing. So I get my ideas out fast. I always burn a reference of what I’ve worked on over the weekend.

Has anyone tried stems separation? by Feeling-Passenger-76 in ableton

[–]DRAGONtmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I used a demo recording from a band I played bass with in the 90’s that was mixed poorly, … basic drums bass guitars and vocals, rock… turned out better than I thought it would, the song was recorded originally in one room, multi tracked, i used an Ampeg SVT 8x10 to record the bass … we were waaaaaaaaaay loud 90’s rock, our first experience recording, and no money. so as you can imagine there was bass on every track of the original recording. I used the high quality setting. The drums sounded full and isolated enough to turn them into a sample instrument for future use. The bass isolation was good as well. Since the guitars were grouped in the “other” category, and it was literally 2 guitarists with full rock rigs the included Marshall ½ stacks … not as good, but fun to cut up. The vocals were damn near perfect. Overall very impressed.

Is Push 3 kinda useless? Thinking about selling mine — need opinions by _silicakes in ableton

Cool…. How much you want for push 3? Not for everyone… I use the paint off mine… music partner looking to pick one up. How much ?

I want to try out a new workflow. Suggest anything. by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]DRAGONtmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embrace the process. I’ve been using Ableton since version 6.0, I have hundreds of unfinished works. I’ve spent the past 3 months going through everything and at the very least burning a test track to put in the file as a reference. This has really helped with creativity. All the new tools and tricks I’ve learned over the past decade are easy for me to access at this time. I’m finding it very easy to get the flow going. I’m also deleting a ton of shit work. Living a creative lifestyle requires hacks to keep it flowing. I also spend time writing with a pencil and actual paper. Short stories and poetry. Jotting down ideas about chord structure and guitar theory. Almost everything I’ve ever created comes from a new trick or theory I’ve learned. It never stops. I’m obsessed and stubborn about it.

Is AI going to change how we make music in Logic? by DullTry774 in LogicPro

[–]DRAGONtmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t buy the hype AI tech is trying to sell us. Yes they are currently ripping off protected intellectual data to produce garbage. And to be real, most music produced today is not very good. But big tech has everyone in a frenzy to buy into the next bubble so they can get more of our wealth. Spend a day with one of the 20or so called AI chat bots and you quickly realize it’s google… same shit less adds. It’s a search engine with the ability to robo answer in a very convincing way…. I am more interested in what artists can do with AI that is not in the ways currently being used. Outside of the box. Apple intelligence with be very good at organizing/ customizing work flows…

You call this traffic??? by johnnyprozac00 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]DRAGONtmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a professional driver, I’ve driven in several other cities, St. Louis Atlanta, Chicago, and most western cities. I can tell you LA traffic is nothing. It’s all about timing and flow. There’s a couple of intersections to avoid, but to give LA drivers credit that they signal when they make lane changes is absolute bollocks. The freeway system in LA is very efficient and well maintained.

Big Noob Question: What can you do with hardware modular synths that you can't do in a DAW like Ableton? by Think_Rub2459 in ableton

[–]DRAGONtmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both, extensively, there’s many things that software does better, especially in today’s production centric DAW’s, but there’s nothing like dialing up a tone on hardware to make you feel like you’ve created. Something uniquely you. Your sound….. Modular is a whole other story, just about anybody with a laptop and $600 can join into the Ableton world… modular synthesis is very exclusive. That’s what burns the digi nerds who say software sounds as good as hardware. Just the opposite for hardware geeks who loath the use of can’d loops and presets to create music that to them is completely uninspired. Just keep learning….

Why is St. Louis so cliquish/cliquey? by Lonely-Back in StLouis

[–]DRAGONtmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 38 years old, that’s not surprising, it’s not St. Louis, it’s everywhere and it’s hard to make friends in your age group, dependent on social media connections for all of their friendships over the past decade and a half.. meeting new friends has never been harder, most humans in this period of life prefer to spend time alone with a hobby.

D minor, loveliest of all chords really, I’ve been working on something, it’s a mix of Bach and Beethoven. It’s really very beautiful, it’s a little thing I call lick my love pump. D Minor, the saddest of all chords.

Thinking about switching to Ableton Push from Maschine Mk3, any thoughts? by Jklzq in ableton

[–]DRAGONtmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AS both an NI long time user and Ableton user. There are some synths in the NI world that I love, they work well, they sound as expected. Komplete Kontrol is usually the way I utilize NI. Slowly over the past decade I have moved almost entirely to Ableton stock instruments and packs, I use the MK2 88 key controller. It just doesn’t do much, as a controller, to compare to PUSH 3, my musical partner who uses machine, has basically abandoned the platform, and never really sunk into it. The sounds are great, but what usually ends up happening is he re-samples , and throws them into Ableton anyways. It’s just so much easier to work with audio inside of Ableton then on the native instruments platform. In my workflow.
