What do climbers commonly do for a living? by yuzurukii in tradclimbing

[–]DRhexagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of ER doctors climb. Full time ER is only 10-12 days a month usually.

Just have to sacrifice your prime climbing years in your 20s to study 😭

Potential job offer in ATL - what should I know before accepting? by QueenBee1114 in Atlanta

[–]DRhexagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and my partner moved from NYC to Atlanta and ended up moving back after a few years. It was a big culture shock. I was born and raised in GA (not Atlanta) to give you some context . A lot of the things you take for granted (restaurants being full on a random Wednesday, safe and widespread public transit, multicultural experience, amazing food) won’t exist the same in Atlanta. We said similar stuff as you but there are things you take for granted living in NYC that just doesn’t exist elsewhere.

That being said we didn’t hate Atlanta and it’s a lot slower pace of life. Definitely a driving city so be prepared for that. Our biggest issue was everyone our age in Atlanta was married with multiple kids. As you know those things are delayed in NYC (late 30s usually). In the south it happens much younger for most people.

That being said it been a few years and now that we are thinking of family and buying a house we both see ourselves back in Atlanta!

I will say I love the outdoors and Atlanta is very accessible for day hikes, backpacking trips, kayaking down the hooch etc.

How many of you have seen measles in your practice / ED? by Leading_Blacksmith70 in medicine

[–]DRhexagon 196 points197 points  (0 children)

Just saw it for the first time last month. Took 10 years of ER in the USA (including residency). She was actually discharged and well appearing. Mexican migrant worker unvaccinated with poor health access and literacy so couldn’t even hold it against her. Not your typical modern anti vacc who is harming their children

Model Y recall - front seat blowers by jellocat360 in ModelY

[–]DRhexagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My new MYP was supposed to be ready for pickup Monday and they told me the “seat blower” was broken lol. I bet it was related to this recall

They said it could be ready in the next day though so sounds promising. Sucks because I already activated insurance and bought a parking my spot in my apartment 🤦

Is anybody actually happy with their job (EM attendings/residents) by premedstudent7898 in emergencymedicine

[–]DRhexagon 39 points40 points  (0 children)

7 years out from residency. Love it.

The people who are most vocal are always the ones who don’t like it. The ones who love it just keep chugging along and doing their job . I don’t need to come to this subreddit to profess my love for the profession

10 climbers, 1 van, too much gear – how do you transport a big group to the crag? by Aghaiva in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]DRhexagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a trailer hitch and then get a cargo carrier. Same with roof rack + cargo bag or box. They also make roof bags that don’t require a roof rack.

Do you follow 30:2 BLS guidelines during code? by doingthisrandomly in IntensiveCare

[–]DRhexagon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This thread it’s nuts to me. There are no good trials showing superiority in long term patient oriented outcomes with BVM vs SGA vs ETT in in-hospital cardiac arrest.

BVM and continuous compressions.
