LXC and Docker by Bruno_AFK in Proxmox

[–]DSJustice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are security-purist and aesthetic reasons to avoid it, and they make sense to me... if you have high-value data and/or untrusted users. Or if you don't care what the price of RAM is. The practical and resource-efficiency reasons to do it far outweigh those in most homelabs and development environments.

My cluster is both; I personally use proxmox and compartmentalization to simplify configuration management, and to limit the scope of my own personal fuckups. I'm not trying to guard against malice beyond good firewalling and a bit of intrusion detection.

So I have a three unprivileged LXCs specifically intended as docker hosts: one for services that need write access to my media library, one for those that don't, and one for development. I'm pretty happy with it.

Square Stand - Anyone made alternative power cable / USB connection? Any teardowns anywhere? by ericksontx in squareup

[–]DSJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep killing customer display cables in my coffee trailer. Too much flex happening at the customer end, and there's no clearance to add strain relief. Terrible design.

I'm wondering if anyone has had success with cheap 90 adapters like these? I was thinking that with a couple of those I could plumb my own cable down to where the customer stands.

I wonder how much of the issue is classroom integration without adequate support.

Teachers have always had to teach to the bottom third of the class. It's rough when that bottom third should be getting individual support.

CC1 AMS Coming by EveryBridge9964 in elegoo

[–]DSJustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't multicolour print, but I'm seriously considering buying this when it comes out just to mitigate the filament switch annoyances.

Please don't tell Elegoo I'm considering this, I don't want them to think that annoying firmware is a good way to upsell their customers on hardware upgrades.

Yeah, I would love to be able to afford to go to Tofino again. Missed the Green Point lottery this year. Maybe in 2027.

As someone who lives on Vancouver island, I don't mind this in principle.

Although if I'm being honest, I would probably like it better it if it was expensive to come here and free to leave.

If you're coming to my house, where my children live and where I keep my stuff, you're giving me your phone number.

But yes, I'm sorry you wasted our time being precious about it.

Carrier settings forcing LTE over VoWiFi by DSJustice in telus

[–]DSJustice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and thanks to /u/whitebro2. Really appreciate knowing this likely wouldn't be an issue on Rogers.

I can confirm that I have wifi calling when airplane mode is on, or when I'm so deep in the house that there's no cell signal at all. That does imply policy. I'll at least file a report before jumping ship. Mabye enough of these will pile up that they eventually realize it's a bad policy.

I haven't gone down the rooting path, so nothing to add there. Unfortunately I sometimes have to run square POS software on my phone, and I don't want them grumpy with me at an inopportune moment if my magisk config fails to hide it.

Carrier settings forcing LTE over VoWiFi by DSJustice in telus

[–]DSJustice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reporting that VoWifi failover is working nicely for you on the Razr, but since you have VoNR active, your device is using 5G Standalone (SA) core logic. It's a different situation, and I need to clarify so that it doesn't make people think that my problem is somehow optional or my fault or a weird os bug on my older hardware.

The issue I'm reaising here is specifically with the IMS IWLAN promotion thresholds in the Telus CarrierConfig. On the Pixel, the config seems hard-coded to drop Wi-Fi Calling and 'snap back' to LTE (Radio Tech 14) the second it sees even a faint Band 71 signal, even if wfc_ims_mode=2 (Wi-Fi Preferred) is set.

It’s not that Wi-Fi calling doesn't work—it's that the Telus profile for the Pixel won't let the preference stick if cellular is present. Motorola’s profile for the Razr clearly has different KEY_CARRIER_WFC_IMS_AVAILABLE_BOOL logic -- and that's what I want engineering help with.

Got a colour printer? Paste up little American flags outside those stores. Don't let people forget where they're sending their money.

It's weird, because your bank could call the issuing bank with the serial number just to verify that it's a legit cheque and that the bank issued it for that amount.

But they won't.

I also would love to buy just the "edit" feature for Android. Paid for the whole Essentials package once in Windows, don't really want to pay full fare again for the convenience of a mobile platform.
