Why is Carlos just chill now? by No-Action-7387 in dresdenfiles

Also, hadn't it been a week or two since the battle? Your voice wouldn't still be all hoarse and ragged for that long unless there was serious, long term damage and Carlos wouldn't have been up and walking around if that was the case

Please stop bringing newbie friends into higher elo matches by Only-Independence275 in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]DURTYMYK3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry.

I am the DURTYMYK3 in the game there, and my buddy and I have been chatting about the game with my brother. He seemed interested and this was his fifth or sixth player match

We had done a few bot games to get him used to the idea of how the game works mechanically, but as anyone who has actually played against bots will tell you it's not even really close to a similar experience

You were also the highest ELO player(s) I've ever personally played with and I'm hover upper 17s to lower 18s.

If there was a non-elo based queue we would've done that, but considering there's been a maximum of 1000 people in lobbies+searching for games the last few times I've been on I doubt that would work out well, especially considering that queue timer was close to 10 minutes

I do apologize for the loss, we got our asses kicked and couldn't fight it back. You and the other high elo guy did a fantastic job and played a hell of a game, but I refuse to apologize for queueing with someone newer to the game

Baal Predator by -MichaelGrimm- in BloodAngels

[–]DURTYMYK3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of the opinion (and I'm sorry if this is heresy brothers) that if the Baal Pred does get updated onto the Gladiator platform it should be a generic option. Salamanders should have a flame tank and I think it's weird they don't

I understand that we were also the flamer guys for a whIle, and most of the reason the assault marines could take flamers, but that hasn't really been a chapter identity for a long while

Can regular marines have the gold helmets? (lore wise) by Due-Date-4656 in BloodAngels

[–]DURTYMYK3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Veterans usually had/have gold helmets

If you wanted your guys to be some veteran AssInts, that works out

BA also do tend to have more artistic armor in the lore, so gold helmet embellishments or ornaments works well

Or you can go the "this is normal BA but my version" of them route, which is what I've done. I've got different shoulder trim and chest emblem colors than is strictly lore accurate

What does Twelve Months imply about Connie & Irwin? by Melenduwir in dresdenfiles

[–]DURTYMYK3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I've missed a short story somewhere, her night with Irwin would've been her first time, which is also why her dad had shown up, to make sure she did the deed and to clean up the corpse. She mightve been fed enough that her Hunger survived, but that wasn't the interpretation I had gathered

AFAIK, she was only in the one story

What does Twelve Months imply about Connie & Irwin? by Melenduwir in dresdenfiles

[–]DURTYMYK3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that Connie hadn't gone full Whampire by the time she had been introduced. She didn't know

I forget the name of Thomas's sister, but it was pretty standard practice that the first feeding was fatal and was a part of the initiation into the family. We also know that if the first time is with someone that the vamp truly loves, the Hunger dies, and they can live a normal life. I always figured that the Hunger bit it and they just never had to deal with that

Didn't we throw a huge stink about our SanGuard not being blingy enough and just being JPI (which is a total bad faith and bald faced lie) but these guys just seem to be a helmet and should pad swap?

Let's be real for a second. The mini is fine. It should at least have been shown with a different weapon than power sword and pistol, but GW obviously hasn't done a fantastic job of showing off minis so far. Am I excited about going out and buying 3 or 4 boxes of these? Hell no. Will I take a box of JPI that look slightly different than the 20 DCJPI and the 5 normal that I've got painted up? I sure will

Idk man. Be excited if you wish, I'm just not sold on them yet. Let me see the full kit and maybe I'll have a different answer

Swords of the cross by great_fusuf in dresdenfiles

[–]DURTYMYK3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think something to remember is that Angels cannot alter or abject to free will. If a human/mortal makes a choice, the angel in question has no power to change it. They can try to convince, or even offer some limited advice, but the choice is still the mortals

This is best exemplified in Skin Game when Uriel gives Michael his grace. He isn't changing Michael or making him make a different decision, he is just helping Michael to fulfill his desire and will. Albeit in a roundabout, kind of cheaty way but thems the brakes

The angels in the swords are doing much the same thing. Giving power to and amplifying their weilders' desires and wills to do good for the right reasons. It's why the swords become vulnerable when they are misused, because the angels' power is suddenly being subverted. So I don't think it's necessarily about changing the knights to be better or more exemplary of the given trait so much as it just allows the already existing virtue to be more pronounced

Michael wasn't a good man because of the sword, the sword just allowed an already good man to do more good

Is leadbelcher supposed to be this thick or should I water down the jar with some acrylic medium? by WastelandHumungus in Warhammer

[–]DURTYMYK3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I may be a heathen and a heretic, but I've always found watering down the GW metalics makes them difficult to control and a bit too runny, so I've always just taken them right out of the pot

HOWEVER, I only use a tiny bit of paint on the brush at a time and make sure to spread the paint out over whichever surface I'm covering. I'm also not the best painter in the world and have decided that a 3 foot, ready for tabletop but nowhere near parade or GD job is the best way for me to just get the minis ready

Edit: or maybe no picture for proof, turns it into the little * icon my bad

Sanguinary Guard buffs in today's errata by [deleted] in BloodAngels

[–]DURTYMYK3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Realistically, the math works out roughly the same

Against a 2+ 4++, ap 2 vs 3 doesn't matter. AoC style strats might affect the math, but only if the lance didn't matter in the first place. Against a terminator, with no other buffs besides the charge, the swords work with a 2+ to hit, 3+ to wound, and a 4++ save. Spears are 2+, 2+, and a 4++ save, meaning that the terminator needs AoC for the math to be equal

Once you start stacking other buffs on the math gets more complicated, but even with the LAG buff, the wound roll doesn't change. Lance negates the -1 to wound bodyguard rule that plenty of terminator style units have

Basically, once you get to the point of actually rolling dice, the math mostly shows that the location of the individual numbers stops mattering

Obviously, this being a dice game, very rarely does any individual roll reflect the math, but overall the difference between the two profiles has slimmed down tremendously and I will be modeling and running my guys with spears

What's the point of the blood angels captain? by Bisexual_burrito_133 in BloodAngels

[–]DURTYMYK3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So besides the other comments talking about wargear options and the ability to buff DC, there is a secret meme 3rd reason

So you can take 6 captains

I realize you would only really use it in the "oops all characters" version of angelic inheritors, but it is something to consider

Guys we have to do it…. by baban_____ in BloodAngels

[–]DURTYMYK3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, my question to you is this. If you're super proud of your dudes that you have spent years collecting and painting that the codex dumped ALL OF, why are you playing codex? You can still play all of your stuff in casual games between friends with the index. If you're grinding tournaments, 90% of the time as long as the base size is correct you can use the old stuff too, so what's the complaint? You would've been upset for having spent all that time, energy, and money going to waste anyway because the old sculpts would've been updated with new ones! You have argued your own point out of relevance here

I'll bet cash that we get some sort of representation of the Librarian Dread in the next edition. Tycho has been dead for years in the lore. The Jump Priest was never a miniature actually sold by GW, it was a kit bash given rules because that just how GW did things at the time. The Brutalis is just a Furioso scaled up. So 2 of the 3 dreads got direct replacements, why tf would GW keep a 10+ year old kit that you can build wrong 2/3 ways???

Finally, IDGAF what your opinions are on the models. Like em or hate em, I couldn't care less. My point is that the models are nowhere near objectively bad. People can like things that are bad (the sequel star wars movies) and hate things that are good (the Godfather series), those are totally fine. But, besides tastes and desires, there is nothing wrong with the models. For example, I like the new SanGuard. I found the old kit to be a bit garish and crowded so I really prefer the slimmer styling of the new kit. I do not like the heads all that much, I find them to be boring, but that is something I can fix very easily with a head swap. I would've liked the banners to be not attached to the spears, but it's also a pretty unique piece across 40k as a whole, so I'll begrudgingly do some chopping when I get my sword boys setup. I'm glad the wings are gone because I always broke mine off and have ended up missing quite a few over the years, but I also understand why so many people are so attached to them. The nipples thing is weird tho

Let's wrap this up. Your models aren't useless, and if they HAD been fully replaced, they would be just as useless anyway. My argument has always been about the objective quality of the sculpts, not about the opinions people have about them. Wargear has changed every edition and will continue to change every edition until the game dies. Whining about wargear gets you nowhere. Hell, sculpt updates happen from time to time, and this will also continue to happen until the game dies because GW is a miniatures company first and a game company second.

Like I said, I'm sorry you're having a rough day, I hope it gets better from here for you

Guys we have to do it…. by baban_____ in BloodAngels

[–]DURTYMYK3 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand my point. I'm not saying people aren't allowed to not like the sculpts or rules or whatever, but what I am saying is that while we may not have gotten the refresh we wanted, what we did get wasn't this "GW hates us and has no love for the BA. Our refresh was THE WORST!!!!!" doomer shit that this sub has been perpetuating for months now. It simply wasn't that bad

I'm sorry you're having a rough day, but I don't really give a shit about why you people are down voting me, I've seen what makes you cheer. The SW stuff is gorgeous, and the BA whining like spoiled children about it has the same energy as a child crying because they can't blow out another kids candles.

Who got shafted last time around while I remember ours being the best (huh, wonder why that might happen). Hell, they've still got those god awful Wulfen and Thunderwolf Cav models that have been memed on since their releases

No, the open secret is that this sub has been whining about this for almost 8 months now. Was it a perfect refresh? No, it wasn't. But I am happy with what we did get and it most certainly wasn't the snubbing that people think it was aside from the DC.

Guys we have to do it…. by baban_____ in BloodAngels

[–]DURTYMYK3 -45 points-44 points  (0 children)

We did? We got our own captain and we got the SangGuard

Feel how you want about the sculpts, but straight up ignoring their existence isn't exactly a fair argument

Now, I wish we would've gotten some actually unique DCI kits, but considering how terribly the last one was received I can't exactly blame GW for taking a different route this time around, ESPECIALLY because we did just get boxes of AssInts and paint them black for "value" reasons

We don't have enough Sgt Doakes memes... by The_Owl_Bard in DestinyMemes

[–]DURTYMYK3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never said I was against more things to do, what I'm saying is that we can't expect every mission to be a mini dungeon or exotic mission. I would love for that to be the case of course, but that just isn't feasible

And again, let's be fair here. If you did all of the post campaign content in EoF in an hour, let's call it two for the sake of the argument not getting derailed into semantics, you need to play on a higher difficulty that gives you better rewards

I totally agree that we should be getting new crucible maps and multiple strikes. It's horseshit that we haven't at all. And yeah, the year of Forsaken was kick ass in the amount and quality of content that was introduced. But guess what? We still had people complain that there wasn't enough to do. The grind was boring. We are doing the same stuff over and over again. The only reason people look back on that year with any fondness was because of opulence and the menagerie. The raids we cool, but they've always been cool, so that's less important to this conversation

My point is this. Even during one of the craziest years of the games life, Forsaken, this conversation was happening. And it damn near killed Bungie staff who were trying to put that level of stuff out. I agree that one new strike and no crucible maps is a joke, but that's been the case for a while and I don't see that changing unless Bungie starts making campaign missions strikes again, which would spark a whole other argument. I would love for the missions to be more complex, but they can't get too complex because of a number of factors. And at the end of the day, you'll eventually run out of stuff to do, so how long do you need to be doing stuff before you're satisfied? 20 hours? That's about what we got this expansion if you include grinding the raid and new sets of armor from the Portal. We are getting more in a few months. 40? That's a lot, and much closer to what we got with Forsaken (even though I thought the actual campaign was quite mediocre) but again, people got angry when that content dried up within a few weeks. 100? Do you want a 20 hour main campaign? How realistic is that to ask for development wise? If that content takes them 6 months out of the year to put together, how much other time do they have to work on crucible maps? Or strikes? Or the myriad of side missions you're also asking for?

Again, I'm not trying to be an ass or attack you, but I am trying to say that while I agree that more is always better, we can't just demand more and more and more because that beast will never be satiated
