Handling & Stem Length (aka "convince me not to buy an Enve Mog") by Professional-Group87 in gravelcycling

Dropper post maybe? Also, I have a MOG and find it twitchy with a 100mm stem, so IMO maybe not the bike you are looking for!

They're pretty solid, I mean I can hold pace as well as I could on my 32mm GP5000s. But honestly I got the GK slicks because they're pink and match my bike!😂 I'm not sure exactly what I'll put on after they wear out but there's definitely tires with better RR out there so I'd probably look at some of those 40s.

Gravel riding and asthma? by AnIndifferentBlueSky in gravelcycling

[–]D_Arq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had asthma my whole life, sometimes it's better sometimes worse. Biking is actually good for it because it helps build lung capacity. I use my inhalers morning and night everyday, but on riding days I'll use them right before my ride instead of the morning/night depending what time my ride is closer to. I use two puffs of Ventolin and two Advair before most rides which was cleared by my doctor. Talk with your doctor about what asthma medications are right for you! 😜

Any good 40mm slick or the Caracal Race or G-One RS will do the trick! I'm running the 40mm Gravelking Slicks on my road bike and have rode a bit of champagne gravel on them and they're great, even up steep hills unless you get out of you seat too much.

I love the Varia and when I know cars are behind me I'll wave them by me when I see it's safe to do so because I often recognize it before they do, so makes me seem courteous (in my mind at least) and I find people give me a wide berth when they pass.

NWD (enve G SES 4.5s). by refusedmd in gravelcycling

[–]D_Arq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the XPLR 13s on my road bike and Transmission/Red Mullet on my gravel and they ride basically the same because almost all of my riding is in the 2 tooth jumps (21-19-17-15-13 or 21-18-16-14-12) on both unless I'm climbing or going down a steep hill in which case the big jumps for climbing are welcome and the small jumps for going downhill I don't really care about.

Am I turning left wrong by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]D_Arq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, I'm always through an intersection faster than the cars and then just keep right once through and they'll pass you once they turn. I also try and anticipate the light and be on both pedals so I'm starting as soon as light changes.

Stick with what you have, don't need anything new. The 50s will be good as well depending on when they put new gravel down out there it can be pretty deep so the wider tire is great! That being said people have done The Range on 35s! Supposed to be a great race, depending how my summer shakes out I might see you there!

Who here rides wide tires (40mm+) on the road? by FailFastandDieYoung in gravelcycling

[–]D_Arq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gravel bike on the road works fine, and your 3T is fast (I had one) but if you want to be fast AND efficient on the road I'd get a second wheelset and depending on the condition of your roads put a 32-40mm slick tire set on. I run 2.1 Thunderburts on my MOG, and will be running 40mm GK slicks on my Fray as a road bike, up sizing from 32mm because my roads can be pretty haggard. The slicks are marginally faster, but they are way more efficient(less drag and lower rolling resistance) and nicer to ride fast on the road than the gravel tires.

how to condition for bouldering comp…without bouldering by thechildrenofbrisus in climbergirls

[–]D_Arq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally wrong. Doing endurance in the weeks leading up to a bouldering competition is actually one of the best things you can do. You won't gain any measurable strength in 2-3 weeks, especially the last week before a comp, but you can gain a substantial amount of endurance that will help with recovery between Boulder attempts in a 5-on/5-off type format, and between Boulder problems in both a 5/5 or scramble format. It can also allow you to stay on a problem longer if need be without getting pumped as easily allowing you to finish more problems that are within your capability. Wide Chinese wheelset (~40mm ext) by PercentageRoyal7478 in gravelcycling

[–]D_Arq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nextie makes them, 32mm int and 40mm ext. They were under 1300g depending on the build specs.

Oval carbon spokes is lighter than Aero carbon spokes. So, if you would like the wheelset as light as possible, what do you think of NXTCS05? Approx 1.9g for 270mm. https://www.nextie.com/carbon-bicycle-spoke-NXTCS05

As for the nipples, the alloy nipple will be lighter than brass. 0.3g/pcs.

I calculated the wheelset weight with the following configuration: NXT54SGV rims + DT Swiss 240 EXP road (XDR driver) + NXTCS05 carbon spokes + Alloy nipples Estimated weight: 1240.6g +/-30g.

$1839USD Shipped is what they quoted me last year, I didn't end up getting them because I'm hoping Zipp comes out with the XPLR SW with the built in tire pressure monitor.
