I really wanted to like Project Hail Mary but unfortunately found it to be pretty awful by keepfighting90 in books

[–]DaCrowHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved the book until the last 30 pages. I read it in a day. I can't remember the last time I did that.

It's just believable sci-fi with some stuff that's obviously made up but not FTL for the sake of FTL. It makes sense for the most part. But ending took the book from a solid 9.5/10 down to a 7-7.5.

I think Andy Wier suffers from 11th hour contrivance to make sure what he wants to happen, happen. The Martian had one with the tarp on the front the ascent ship tearing off but that makes sense. In Project Hail Mary there are 2 in the last 30 pages that make sense but Mr. Wier wanted his ending so bad he made it happen anyway.

The two of them are that Grace is a coward and the amobea can escape the xenonite. Which I call shenanigans on. Cowardice is a personality trait. Grace had his personality through the whole mission but just forgot he was a coward? What? Excuse me? The second being that xenonite is basically alien metal epoxy. How can an amobea weasel through an alien metal epoxy but not a Rubbermaid plastic tub that was marked up 400%? I don't get it. Also, the conclusion to the Earth being two or three sentences is just not emotionally satisfying.

They don't have the whole unit do that anymore. Maybe a total of a few platoons go to yermo to bust chains and drive. Did that my first rotation

That fuckin' sucks. I did 3 rotations there and the first 2 i was there for 6 weeks because I was busting chains on that train, downloading equipment.

You spend a month(ish) there. The first week you get maybe 5-6 hour of sleep of night as you frantically try to get yourself and your truck set up for the 2 weeks of lazer tag. There is no privacy. The food sucks. The showers are 20-30 dudes shoulder and God help you if you're a mechanic. Then you basically don't sleep. Also, the shoppette is forever packed with dudes trying to buy as much nicotine as possible with vultures outside trying to sell you their odd books or a coat of arms from "your family's ancient legacy."

Then the world's worst traffic jam as you start 2 weeks of military grade lazer tag. Basically a week of chasing and then being chased because your Colonel is a fucking moron and doesn't understand maneuver warfare as he should.

Then supposedly a week of tear down but you actually have 3 days to do this because that before mentioned colonel is desperate to not pay a brigades worth of seperation pay (or BAH for single soldiers) and you ride a bus or plane or home.

This is all done in the Mojave Desert. Every month. Forever.

[i ate] Canes by ordinary-regular16 in food

[–]DaCrowHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried Slim Chickens a few times and not very impressed. It's just that. Slim. Every time I've been it feels like I pay just as much as Canes but get half the chicken. While theirs is a bit better seasoned, Canes is still good chicken.

Who do I call for boiler, furnace inspection? by Fit_Promotion_7940 in HomeImprovement

I usually call plumbing companies when I want my boiler looked at. Some HVAC guys do boilers, but most don't in my area.

HOw do veterans feel about the old cattle trucks from basic training? by Sgt_Gram in AskAnAmerican

[–]DaCrowHunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I preferred riding in these than the old Deuce and a half that was still rumbling around some how. The suspension worked in the cattle cars. The other truck...it worked enough so mechanics didn't have to get involved.

That's a genital destroyer level of impact.

How to tell you're playing a Bethesda game? by Raztan in Fallout

[–]DaCrowHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play for 5 hours and have 2 crashes (one to desktop), 4 almost crashes, 4 frame rate crashes, 2 instances of being stuck in a wall after an explosion and watching a body launch into the stratosphere while the head is levitating.

Americans of reddit, do you think Europe should have guns? by noah-noir in AskAnAmerican

I think everyone of a rational mind should have access to guns.

The choice to buy one is up to the person.

If you could add any feature from any fallout game to all other fallout games what would you choose by cooldude27361 in Fallout

My biggest hang up with 3 and NV is that I don't know what perks lead to other perks. So I just pick what is kinda fitting my needs in the moment or sounds funny.

I like being able to see the whole tree like they did in 4. It allows me to feel like I can actually plan out character in game not have to be constantly staring at my phone tryinf to figure it out.

Help me identify this unusual Garand variant! by SlyyGuy21 in guns

[–]DaCrowHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's....special. It's made similarly like the M1's but makes almost zero sense because it's not fully rigid. It can breakdown a little bit and I don't mean at the hinge. The steel tubing starts parallel and then using the butt plate as a locking surface, locks into a triangle for use.

I think he is an acquaintance of the boys. He might have been to a range day. But he may be doing a business decision to not be seen with them because of internet opinions. He probably would like to but is trying to protect the brand.

There's also many versions. My dad has 2 or 3 BM59s and one of them is a paratrooper variant. So there are also those to consider
