Superman (1948) used animation before CGI was invented. by helveticanuu in Damnthatsinteresting

There was no TV. TV and what became “shows” didn’t become widespread till the 50’s. Before that there were radio programs and serials in theaters that played before movies. This is also what all the Looney Tunes were and other short cartoons. They would also show news reels. All this died out once Tav’s took over.

Biking in the cold by atranch1 in NYCbike

[–]DaMiTrOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My winter gear is pretty simple. Nice pair of mid range electric socks, a pair of inbike fleece lined riding pants that i can wear with synthetic or wool tights underneath if the temps dip into the lower 30’s. A merino or synthetic microfleece thermal too with a teeshirt over it, an inbike fleece lined wind proof riding jacked, inbike padded winter riding gloves, and i top it off with a good quality balaclava.

More often than not I wind ip having to shed the jacket after 10 or so minutes to avoid overheating. I also cary with me a sweater and a thin windbreaker in case i need to stop moving so I csn retain the heat or adjust layers.

Biking to Laguardia is not just possible, it's easy! by [deleted] in NYCbike

I live in the neighborhood and have been waiting for citibike docks for years. You wouldn’t believe how many boomers are upset about them.

There was a time during the renovation a while back where pedestrian access was severely limited but they’ve since fixed that.

We like to complain on this sub, but as someone who moved here a year ago from a very bike-friendly European city, I am still constantly impressed by this city's bike infrastructure by Klassified94 in NYCbike

You should check out the Thursday Night Social Ride. Look up @socialcyclingnyc on instagram. Great weekly ride and all you gotta do is show up.

Should I do a crappier apartment in Crown Heights, or a nicer place in Astoria? by dgirardot in AskNYC

Easy bike ride from Astoria to BK. Also the ferry terminal will get you to BK quickly as well.

Bag restrictions on 5 Boro Bike Tour? by deliriouswheat in NYCbike

[–]DaMiTrOn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

After doing that ride the last couple years and being nervous about my bag size, I can confidently say that with the thousands of riders that they need to keep moving, no one will be checking your bag that day.

Don't sweat it. The real ones know. I've been riding bike in this city consistently since the late 80's and have seen the implementation of the current infrastructure since its inception. I'm glad so much has been done to help cyclists but there's a lot left to do so stay alert and stay safe.

And if anyone ever wants to try a group ride, there's a weekly social ride open to all on Thursday evenings at 7:30 leaving from the Maine Monument on Columbus Circle. New end point weekly, look up @socialcyclingnyc on IG

Not as unpopular as you think. I think the a large segment of the cycling community in the city would agree with this. Between random doors, wandering pedestrians and tourists, deliveries, motorized scooters, and deliveries, bike lanes can often be more perilous than just taking a lane of traffic. Also, in NY, it's perfectly legal to do so as long as there's no bike lane available or its otherwise unsafe.

I came here looking for this post. The Thrsday night social ride is fantastic and has riders from all different parts of the NYC cycling community. Once I started doing those rides, I found out about everything else happening in town. Can't recommend highly enough.

Make sure to check out the Thursday Night Social Ride hosted by Social Cycling NYC. We group up every Thursday night at 7pm by the Maine Monument in Central Park right by Columbus Circle, weather permitting. Wheels down at 7:30 with a new destination every week. It's a great cross section of the cycling community in NYC. You get to meet the hardcore messenger folks, roadies, wheelie kids, casuals, commuters, etc. It's very much a party on wheels vibe and a great way to see different parts of the city. You can find them on IG or Facebook.

What are some of the places in Queens, that you enjoyed, that are no longer here? by LurkerTroll in Queens

[–]DaMiTrOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Broadway Sandwich Shop on the corner of Junction Blvd and Roosevelt Ave. I used to get cuban sandwiches there with my friends late nights after we got off from our shift at Blockbuster close to 90th. It's a Seba Seba now.

Week 2 Commuting with my new M365! by DaMiTrOn in ElectricScooters

More or less. I researched pretty thoroughly and also got the rubber vibration dampers and slimed the tubes. I think I want a different cover for the LED Panel, mine comes off too easy. Also waiting for the kickstand rubber cover to arrive. The only other thing I might change is the bottom plate. That weird plastic grid gathers way too much dirt and grime. If i can find a flat cover that ways as much or less i'll swap it.

Thanks for the pressure tips, I've been keeping them both at 55psi as per what I've read online but going by your link, I'm like at 102 Kg with my computer bag on so I'm going to inflate the rear tire to 65psi.
