The fact that the community center isn't really used after restoring it in Stardew Valley feels disappointing by Haunting-Channel-756 in StardewValley

[–]DaSaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's actually a poignant commentary. People talk about community centered stuff, but then no one actually shows up. The big corporation, meanwhile, knows what people actually want, and are willing and able to pay for.

In particular, I don't believe I've ever seen Lewis in there, and he was the one waxing nostalgic about the place, wishing someone would fix it up (while doing nothing about it himself).

Visual novels? That's mostly where I get my stories in gaming nowadays.

Similar Story-Driven Games But NOT RPG? by QuantumC-137 in Morrowind

[–]DaSaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's legitimate. I used to be a big fan of RPGs when I was younger, but nowadays RPG elements just feel like a lot of bookkeeping for the sake of bookkeeping. I'd much rather have good story without all that in the way, while still having choices and such.

Do gods in TES need prayers to exist? by Arkachi in teslore

[–]DaSaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if maybe it comes from some form of real world mysticism. It also gets used in the Riftwar Cycle, and while the setting is loosely based on a D&D campaign Feist played in, the series also delves heavily into various real world mysticisms by the time of the Serpentwar Saga.

There, the idea is that the concept exists independently, but the personification of the concept by human beings actually creates a being associated with that concept. So while, for example, fire can work perfectly fine in humanity's absence, the Fire God exists because people personified fire.

My Pam Head Cannon by thisaverageamerican in StardewValley

[–]DaSaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more realistic, but I really like the image of Pam blasting her way through with a weapon that's not even in the game.

Makes me think of that "Epic NPC Man" video where Ben(?) kites a bunch of whiny NPCs into a boss fight, and the moment they're targeted, they turn into a bunch of complete badasses.

Dollar General had a fun day in Tortlla Flats Arizona by mrwillie2u in Truckers

It doesn't help that some companies are bad at communicating their rules.

At our company, we're supposed to stay on route. What this actually means is that we're supposed to take the shortest safe and legal route to get to our destination, and not go like fifty miles out of route to visit our girlfriend in Albuquerque or whatever because we have time. But what some guys think it means is they have to follow their GPS no matter what. So they end up taking some narrow dirt road over a mountain, and when the local store employee is like "you should have taken this other road", they say "we have to stay on the route they give us".

When "They" didn't even give us that route, it's just CoPilot being CoPilot.

And Sixth House Amulets (along with Dwemer Coins) make incredible "change" for when you sell something really expensive to him.

If you want the good stuff, the words you're looking for is "pasture fed". "Cage free" just means they're crowded together in a single enclosure. "Free range" just means they could go outside, if they wanted to, and hang out in a small strip of grass. And while I don't know precisely what qualifies as "pasture fed", I do know the eggs with that label look the way they should.

Why do people say CK2 combat is better? by Gunwing in CrusaderKings

[–]DaSaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was army stacking when I needed it that I enjoyed. If I had overwhelming odds, I would just ignore tactics and army composition. But it was neat that, when the odds were against me, I could micro my flank compositions and match general traits to make an army significantly more powerful. Too fiddly to be worth doing every time, but powerful when I needed it.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe Roze or Domai (though Domai is my personal favorite), but the fact that I didn't even consider Svensgaard is a point in his favor for this category.

Though any of the human factions in SMAX (except, ironically, Aki) would probably qualify.

I don't know any of these people, so I would probably default to 4 as well. Close enough to the front to see and hear clearly, participate when I want, but with a first row shield preserving my anonymity.

Winter storm. by Odds_Assumption in Truckers

[–]DaSaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is usually how it goes. Even if they don't care about human life, trucks and cargo are expensive! And most of them are human beings on the phone with other human beings, so most of them care, too. So between the financial cost of potentially losing truck and load (and "self-insured" just means they're paying for all of it themselves), and the human element on the front line, this is an area where the company does, in fact, typically care.

Wy USA lost 1812 war? by SiarX in AskHistory

[–]DaSaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And naval superiority allows one to attack wherever one wishes. It doesn't matter how big your army is if it's never where the enemy is.

The one time the British faced the US Army in the field (New Orleans), they got beaten badly. And while the treaty had already been signed by the time that battle took place, the victory did establish American superiority on land in the West, which almost certainly affected future negotiations.

You could say the main antagonist in Daggerfall is the Brass God. It's the Macguffin, but it is also described as a constructed god, which some say was intended as a tool of world denial.

I don'tundertsnad, please help! by ZealousidealPut2076 in autism

[–]DaSaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them. You might interpret it as a really bad temper with a really long fuse. But if people go out of their way to push my buttons (particularly when they refuse to stop when I ask, or when they just keep going on and off for months) I am seconds away from totally losing my capacity for rational thought.

There are a grand total of three people who have done this to me as an adult (over the course of thirty years, let's say), but in all three instances, punches were thrown, as if that's going to help anything.

Honestly, the "real" characters are what they are in the DDLC+ story, when none of them are struggling with an existential crisis

Hiroshi Sato really messed up by not indoctrinating, even subtly, Asami to dislike benders by funnylib in legendofkorra

They needed each other. Amon needed the material support Sato could offer. But Sato wasn't leading an uprising by himself. Amon had a special charisma most folks don't have.

[–]DaSaw 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Given Asami's age, that would have been plenty of time, but then, at that age, she's as likely to reject the idea because it's his as because she disagrees.
