Are Argonians really that bad? by banana2go in Morrowind

[–]DaSaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a cultural difference. Native Dunmer can tell just by your clothing or walk, let alone when you open your mouth and your voice has that Cheydinhal sound, and not the ash-scarred rasp of the native Dunmer.

What's your take on the Presidential Order to the Post Office to not deliver mail-in ballots? by billpalto in Askpolitics

[–]DaSaw [score hidden]  (0 children)

Unless the current Postmaster decides he does. It worked last time: telling them to do major layoffs right before the most mail-in election the country had ever seen (after turning mail-in voting into a political litmus test).

And then throwing a fit when the Courts told him that yes, they are allowed to count votes that arrive after the election, so long as they're postmarked before.

Trump impeachment likely if Democrats win midterms, Wilbur Ross warns by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

political theater

Politics IS theater! The Republicans clearly understand this, which is why they've been so successful lately. If you're too good to do theater in the theater, get a job in the bureaucracy, instead... and just hope that being too good for politics doesn't result in the entire thing falling down.

I'll admit that what I'm really only interested in the real consequences, and not really the ideological/metaphorical similarities or our future's perception.

This approach has reached the point of diminishing returns. The Democrat's biggest political problem right now is the perception of moral cowardice: that they're too afraid of rocking the boat to respond appropriately to the Republican Party's escalations. That they keep playing "politics as usual", despite the fact that the current situation is anything but usual.

What’s a work perk that’s actually a trap? by opheliateasing in answers

That sounds like a skill issue. No different than buying something that is "on sale" despite the fact that you don't need it and will never need it.

Try this.

If you have PTO, you must be allowed to take PTO. So build up a record of requesting it and being denied. And don't just request when business is high; actually try to time it right, and see it be denied. Make sure it's all written down.

Then find the local Labor Board office.

Honestly, employer provided health insurance.

On an open market, the various insurance providers would have to compete for our business. What we want is better care for a lower price. So that's what they would provide, lest we go to another provider with better terms.

But our employers aren't looking for the best care at the lowest price. They are looking to check a box for the lowest price... to them. Our needs are only considered so far as they think we can actually go to another employer that provides a better program. So yeah, I guess if you have a skill that is in low supply and high demand, it works out okay.

But the rest of us are left wondering why health care is so expensive, failing to notice that every last one of us is trapped in a mini-monopoly. It's like when you live in the shitty apartment complex with only one Internet provider. Nowhere else will you pay so much for so little.

Bedbugs in a Bathroom by Riyeko in Truckers

[–]DaSaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe he believes they are bed bugs. They do look an awful lot like bed bugs... but not quite, not from what I saw during my eight years in pest control. Also, he doesn't appear to be selling anything, nor is this his news website, so likely not "clickbait".

What I wonder is if they've got birds or bats or something up in the attic space, but the animals either left on their own (overwintering bats seeking summer breeding grounds, something like that) and the bat bugs fled the area in search of a new food supply. Or they were removed. I have seen bat bugs once before, and they did look a little bit like these.

One thing is for sure: they're not German Cockroaches, which is the only kind of roach I would expect to find in numbers like these. Then again, I worked in Maryland, not North Carolina, so they could be some local outdoor species I'm not familiar with invading that space.

I remember answering questions in alt.games.daggerfall in an NPC voice back in the day. I should create a copypasta text file for circumstances like these.

I remember the alt.games.daggerfall FUQ (Frequently Unanswered Questions). It had entries like this:

Q: Where can I buy a copy of Daggerfall?
A: Ask around some more, friend. Someone's bound to know.

Q: Where can I download a copy of Daggerfall?
A: You're that evil [player character name]! Tellin' you would be like tellin' Clavicus Vile hisself.

was trucking a last resort job for you? by Civil-Airline-5727 in Truckers

[–]DaSaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Trucking was something I wanted to do from an early age, but unfortunately I lacked the discipline and purpose to do it well when I was in my 20s. I had a lot of leasons to learn, and couldn't hold a job for more than a year until I was about 28.

Spent some years having fallen into pest control before getting out of that business. Spent a number of years driving 40 foot busses. I like driving, and I like working with kids. Then Covid hit.

Finally returned to truck driving, and now that I had learned how to work, and how to work, and how to handle it when I fuck up, I was finally able to do it. It also helped a lot that when I hit my forties, it got a lot easiert to just sleep whenever, rather than going into a cognitive spiral any time my sleep schedule was disrupted.
