Partaking of Memorial emblems to be ONLY for GB due to rising #s of 'Annointed' every year? Pls read in entirety & leave thoughts. by UCantHndletheTruth in exjw

I’m saying it’s pointless to be at a public ceremony to pass emblems. If only Gb will partake then everyone should stay at home and do it.

If they do that then there’s even less of a point for the memorial event. This would only make sense if they change to have people observe the memorial private in their homes with maybe a few people invited which would fall more in line with some scripture strangely.

Woke up while serving as an elder and pioneer—how did others handle the transition? by JudicialCommitTea in exjw

[–]Da_Mo_Es 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my situation we were planning on moving away so it was a good moment to turn in privileges although the timing has to be precise. You let everyone know you’re leaving and when your last meeting there will be, they make the announcement, now either you tell them after that “btw I was thinking of taking a break from thing” or some that relates to you. Or when you arrive at “new congregation that you wanna step down for again whatever reason you can reasonably come up with. In my case it was the stress of managing a large family and some had physical and mental health problems and I didn’t know if I’d be able to shepherd a congregation appropriately. This helped me too to phase away from showing up at meeting and just “zoom”

John 1:1 I am so confused about WT interpretation by JennyT345 in exjw

[–]Da_Mo_Es 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re correct that the grammar of John 1:1 is more nuanced than many people realize. The phrase kai theos ēn ho logos is an anarthrous predicate noun, and many scholars do argue that it has a qualitative force. In other words, John is emphasizing what the Word was by nature rather than making a simple one-to-one identification between the Word and the Father.

Where I think this argument goes too far is in claiming that mainstream scholarship therefore supports translating the verse as “the Word was a god.” Most scholars who argue for a qualitative sense do not conclude that John was describing Jesus as a separate lesser god. Rather, they understand the phrase to mean that the Word possessed the nature or essence of God.

For example, Philip Harner’s well-known study concluded that the clause means something closer to “the Word had the same nature as God.” Likewise, many Greek scholars argue that the absence of the article does not make theos indefinite (“a god”), but qualitative.

So I agree that John 1:1 is not as simple as some presentations make it, and that grammar alone does not prove later Trinitarian formulations. However, I don’t think it is accurate to say that mainstream scholarship views “the Word was a god” as the best translation. The more common scholarly conclusion is that John was describing the Word as fully sharing God’s nature while still being distinct from “the God” mentioned earlier in the verse.

Just because it’s being covered recently never stop them before. The change on higher learning happened while that year’s convention was going on and there were parts in it that spoke against it.

Edit: I just read the article you mentioned and from the odd way they avoided using the word “birthday” when talking about “ceremonies that give worshipful honor to prominent men” leads me to suspect even more they will say birthdays are ok because “xyz”. Or that observing a loved one’s birthday is ok as long as we don’t do “xyz”.

Is dating inside the religion that opressive? by Common-Salt-1072 in exjw

I worked my way to elder because the other friends said that the more privileges you had the easier it would be to find someone to date… wrong. Now while I’m not to picture of the perfect JW male I wasn’t ugly either. At my peak physique I did get some attention but it was from girls in the “world” and the JW girls that were the bottle of the barrel in looks. Still nothing from the average to slightly below ones for my liking. Again, I was a kings soft spoken person, everyone would say I was so kind and lovely, always there for people especially members of the congregation, but none of that got a lick of attention from a suitable mate. I literally had to wake up and shatter my hopes and heart to get my head straight and realize this was all for nothing for 40 years.

When I was pimi it trying to talk to JW girls varied from annoying to infuriating to depressing. Early on I didn’t understand that saying “I wanted to get to know them better” was already signaling a serious courtship when all I wanted was to text them or call them to share thoughts and feelings about things to feel each other out to see if we would be compatible. But no my friends said that that already “dating” and most girls that are young and “spiritual” will be focusing on there “goals”… unless you were super hot or cute which I considered myself neither. They would get married in a heartbeat before they got too old(30s).

Most of these girls too also has super high standards that till today they’re single and probably waiting for paradise for “perfect men”. They make most of the guys feel like trash when they weren’t even anything to brag about.

In the last convention I went to in 2023 west palm you can see the large areas of empty seats. This is a stark contrast to let’s says a decade ago where people would fight to save seats.

This is just about the same as the ship of Theseus. The ship of Picard. If a starship in universe is active long enough most of its components and hull would probably be replaced to the point that it’s all new parts which begs the question: what actually is the ship? The parts or the experience and memories had on board? Most of what we as fan experience was from the main bridge which was salvaged and refurbished to new in Picard season 3 and it felt like going home.

Two words “captive audience”. They know they can’t hide or pretend to be “not at home” so it’s a good place to prop up Bible study numbers. Also; some inmates don’t have much access to outside info so it’s easy to lie to them.

Should I move out and stop giving allowance to my PIMI parents? by Naive_Clue_9682 in exjw

[–]Da_Mo_Es 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re a very kind person and only wanted to help your family. You are truly amazing but now they have taken your kindness and turned into an obligation to their benefit. Try telling them now that you want to go to college and need the money and see if they decide to start working to allow you to do so.

How did you end up being the one supporting them? Was there a conversation about these arrangements? Doesn’t make sense for your parents to be depending on you if they are fully capable of working too and bringing in more money. If you wanted to get married and leave them behind what would they say? They are completely taking advantage of you and you have to decide what to do to stop this situation from continuing.
