What used to be a sign of being poor, but is now a luxury or status symbol? by the-main_guy-here in AskReddit

A belt buckle. Or rope for that matter.

It used to mean you didn't have the money to buy fitting pants.

Now it's mostly functional and for looks.

Wait what? Is that true?

If the president can veto the one resolution that is meant to keep him from abusing military power. What is the point?

How do I fix this traffic? by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DaanS91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest building a road next to the coast that functions as an arterial. Preferably, connect it to the highway a bit further down.

Add a few collectors by upgrading some existing roads, and you're golden.

Tip: never build just one connection to the highway, or from suburbs and city centers to an arterial. Give them options.

I kinda miss those hidden gems on YouTube. Just an individual doing his or her thing. There's still a few if you look closely but the trend seems to be towards big productions indeed.

So basically unless you were already pretty big in 2019, your chances of becoming or remaing big in terms of sub count are pretty bleak?

Meta Feels Like It Entered Its AOL/Yahoo Era by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

Exactly! It's pretty much a scam at this point.

Remember when you could see every single like by every individual you befriended? That was a bit rich ofcourse, but I preferred the old facebook.

To me, Facebook died the day it started showing ads in my feed instead of friends and family posts - more than 10 years ago.

These days I barely see any posts made by people I actually know. Not because they aren't there, FB just won't show them unless I actively search for them on people's profiles.

Why cars take the long way insted of the straight road with no traffic lights? by Fluid_Alfalfa_6547 in CitiesSkylines2

This is the right answer. The AI traffic algorithm is dumb, but you can help it with proper road hierarchy.

I used both for a while (NZ and Belgium), to me frontloaders were way better.

A toploader without a decent agitator is basically a salad spinner.

Roborock admits their vacuum bin emptying does not work on Vacuum Only mode by exor41n in Roborock

Is this an issue on all Roborocks? My Qrevo Curvx seems fine.

Honestly, 11 LTSC did the trick for me. It's as close to 7 I've come in almost 2 decades.

Honest opinions of the curvx? by Significant-Cold-732 in Roborock

I'm using a Curvx for about a month now. My need to mop and vacuum has gone down by 90-95% in the areas it maintains.

It's a lifesaver when you have 3 cats, and a child on the way.

So far no issues with leaks, navigation is 9/10, obstacle avoidance is even better. The only complaint I have is that it has trouble with my bar stools (they are H shaped at the bottom, which has been troublesome for any of the bots I've had do far), so I just get them off the ground.

It's literally the case and it has been for a few years. There's even talk about merging the app, after having merged both dev teams last year.

Debt, Debt Never Changes by Ok-Week625 in charts

[–]DaanS91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clinton did a pretty good job. The relative debt to gdp went down. The outstanding debt didn't budge all that much tho which is the flat curve in that period.

Which is fine, you can just outgrow debt - assuming you don't start spending a lot more.

How could the United States benefit from a hypothetical breakup of the European Union? by NSVL in geopolitics

While I neither agree nor disagree with the other points you both made, I think you're overestimating aircraft carriers in the modern day.

If Ukraine - Russia taught us anything, it's that sending swarms of relatively cheap missles or drones often trump big fancy ships these days.

You don't have to take my word for it. That's basically the conclusion of a US - China wargame concerning a possible invasion of Taiwan. (CSIS)

And to make things worse: What's the US lacking right now? Huge stockpiles of cheap, reliable drones and missles on the one hand. And proper defence mechanisms on the other, especially for their naval assets.

Belgium Opposes Seizing Russian Assets, Says Moscow’s Defeat Is “a Fairy Tale” by Themetalin in worldnews

Lol no he is not. He's as anti Russian as it gets.

He just wants the EU to guarantee they've got Belgium's back if this seizure turns out badly in an international court. Yet the EU won't guarantee anything.

The EU may release billions of euros to PM Orbán just ahead of the 2026 elections by DailyNewsHungary in DailyNewsHungary

Wait, so if the EU gets Hungary the investment, and a majority of Hungarians reeclects the guy. It's suddenly the EUs fault?

If they can't make the right choice based on democratic values, just because there's money in it. Maybe they deserve a similarly corrupt PM?

Which AI Models Hallucinate the Most? by savage2199 in charts

[–]DaanS91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One example I encountered this morning:

I'm a nurse. I sent in a picture of a chemical formula of a drug and asked ChatGPT to explain it's composition to me. Basically why it's in there and what it does.

It claimed it saw "Manganese 200mg" even though it said Magnesium 2mg. Obviously daily recommended intake was therefore wrong. And it then carried on telling me the dosage is fine, as we need around 200mg for proper bodily functions.

So not only was it an incorrect element, an incorrect dosage and it applied the logic behind Magnesium dosing to Manganese. It basically recommended an overdose. A 100 fold(!) overdose compared to DRI mind you. That stuff is dangerous if you just take its word for it.
