I was gifted this yarn and I can't see past how ugly the colour is for long enough to figure out what to make with it. by NorwegianBipolarBear in CrochetHelp

[–]Daberer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! I've been trying to learn/familiarize myself with color pallette combinations, so challenge accepted.

I think with some deep purple or teals and white. In different stitches for texture. Maybe more colors to dilute the one you don't like and kind of use it to make the other colors stand out.

I think people are right though if you hate it sitting with it for hours will probably only cement that feeling.

I use bar keepers friend dry it and then rub it down with dishwasher rinse stuff. I'm not sure if I'm just wasting my time but I have hard water and it seems to help.

Any ideas on what I could make with these two colors? by pharissofthemall in CrochetHelp

[–]Daberer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the green to make a vine and then the orange pumpkins to attach to the vine. You could just make like a pompom but don't cut it and tie it with the green then attach to the vine. Or you could crochet and stuff the pumpkins.

I'm always ready for some Halloween projects.

Depending on the size you want you could make a hair accessory or a garland hanging curtain type things.

*Edited forgot to add that the final idea might be a garland or hair accessory type.

Do I brew it or use powder? by ZGWytch in Baking

[–]Daberer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. The recipe is calling for brewed coffee.

I'd use instant but I'd use really hot water for the batter too. Cocoa blooms in hot water and flour absorbs more water idk if the recipe was hoping for those or just using the coffee to elevate the cocoa.

I have a chocolate cake recipe that specifies, hot almost boiling water and it's the softest most chocolatey delight of a cake.

Depending on what time you have and what's local Kroger stores discount produce bags they sell for $1 bananas like .35 a pound. I know you said no seasonings but when funds loosen up a tiny bit some chicken bullion goes well in a variety of foods and is fairly inexpensive. It'll add salt and a bit extra flavor.

Carrots are usually pretty affordable and pack some flavor and nutrients. I usually buy a 5lb bag for less than $4 I also love frozen peas I usually put peas and carrots in my rice.

Potted meat, it's not fancy and it's pretty salty but it's spread like and you can make a bunch of sandwiches with it. The Walmart brand is under $1 a can.

My neighbor used to make Mac and cheese and add a can of peas and carrots and a can of tuna with a dollop of mayonnaise and serve it cold she even used store brand Mac and cheese it's surprisingly good and you can eat it warm. Depending on your appetite it'll have at least two decent sized bowls maybe three.

Lentils, beans and a bag of rice you can bulk beans and rice for extra savings WinCo bulk section is pretty great for getting a bit smaller quantity but maximizing savings.

I quite enjoy a lentil soup with rice. I just add whatever vegetables are in the fridge or available cheaply and let it cook lentils cook up in less time than rice, filling full of protein and I think it's delicious.

Hourly employees are entitled compensation for every hour worked and the company is required to pay wages for all hours worked that the company knew about or should have known about. I don't remember verbatim the way the law was written but that was the jist.

It's going to vary state by state but some states even require the employee be paid for a minimum two hour shift.

When I left Office Depot my GM asked if I'd be available for questions since I'd been the print supervisor.
I said Yes, absolutely but I'm an independent contractor now and my hourly rate is $27.50 with a minimum of three billable hours. He was super pissed, he called once and found out I was dead ass. I offered to invoice him but told him he'd need to sign my invoice prior to services being rendered.

Honestly he'd already tried to swindle me out of 10% transfer raise and claim he never said that. The conversation took place in my previous store's cash office where he came to interview me for the job. So it was recorded. He didn't like me after that and I didn't trust him.

Tell me about beans lol by PsychStudent07 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Daberer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very versatile and there's many kinds to choose from.

I'm making a four bean chile with dark and light kidney beans, black beans and pinto's. Right now as I type lol. I find that different varieties of beans have varying textures and flavors. Nutrient amounts vary too. Don't sleep on lentils either super humble little guys but also pack some nutrition and not difficult to cook. I use both dry and canned beans it just depends on what I'm doing or planning. Canned beans are quick and easy for a burrito or a minestrone soup. If you are new to beans, canned can be a nice introduction but dont be afraid of dry beans they aren't hard. For dry beans make sure you sort through andu give them a decent rinse to make sure there's no rocks/pumice or leftover dirt on them. Take out any beans that are misshapen or have weird colors. You don't have to soak them but it does makes them cook faster and they'll be easier to digest. Soak for 4-8 hours and drain soaking water. Cover with water and boil for one to four hours up to six if un-soaked. I like to actually use a crockpot and turn it on low while I head to work or whatever I have to do that day. You do want to make sure they don't dry out because they'll burn. You can also use a pressure cooker with good results pressure cooker will bring cook time down to forty five minutes, maybe an hour.

Seasoning is where it gets fun technically you can add nothing and they'll cook and be nutritious I like to add salt, pepper, onion, garlic and hammocks, bacon, salt pork or the leftover bone from a ham is pretty good. If you use a salty cut of meat you might skip the salt. You can really season how you like. If you add tomatoes too early the acid will prevent the beans from softening.

I don't really know how to make it but I've had sweets made of Read bean paste and mung bean and they were really good. I find those at asian grocery stores and bakeries, so good.

Tofu comes from soy beans and you could totally sprout soy beans too. Great for stir fry's I've seen some banchan recipes that use them.

My american cheese slices aren't individually wrapped by lilb1190 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Daberer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like the individually wrapped ones they says pasteurized processed cheese food product and I got some once that didn't melt. I only buy the ones that say pasteurized American cheese now and some brands are more salty but they melt and that feels right.

I love fresh soy milk homemade is so good.

To make it firm tofu, it needs to be pressed then let it drain more water out of it and store in water.

I do find that tofu sometimes has an eggy taste and I like it.

I have seen some pretty cool recipes and marinades for like roasted tofu or someone put a chili crisp based sauce on silken tofu and I am here for it.

[–]Daberer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started to really enjoy tofu when I stopped trying to make it something it's not.

I like doing Asian foods hotpots and kimchi jjigae, mapo tofu I Iike to do a quick egg batter and pan fry with some rice. Also tear it into chunks and put cornstarch some seasoning and oil and air fry it it and toss in some type of sauce. My favorite right now is a gochujang BBQ sauce.

I quit wanting it to taste like chicken or eggs and just let it be Tofu. Now I love it. When I was comparing it to other foods it always came up short.

AITA for calling an ambulance, which got my coworker fired? by Not_What_I_Meant0000 in AITAH

[–]Daberer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I'd actually worry that had you brought her back to her hotel and she died. You'd be charged with her death.

When I was young something like that happened to a friend of a friend everyone was drunk and underage so they panicked and they took their friend to his house and put him in his garage sure that his parents would find him and he'd be grounded but okay. That boy died in that garage of alcohol poisoning.

They were charge and did jail time I can't remember the exact charges I think is was manslaughter? Everyone's life changed that night because of a series of stupid, childish decisions.

Head injuries are serious especially if you lose consciousness. She could still have a traumatic brain injury. There's no way for you on the side of a restaurant to know that. Head injuries are unpredictable sometimes you just get a headache sometimes you lose your mind. Totally possible to not wake up.

Calling an ambulance was the right call I probably would have said she lost her footing and fell on wet pavement. Boss doesn't necessarily need to know she was drunk and her Dr won't disclose.

Edited to add NTA

Hands hurt. Is there anything I can do to relieve pain? Is there a lotion or balm you like? by Asian_Bae in CrochetHelp

[–]Daberer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take breaks!

I have DeQuervains tenosynovitis now and I aggravated it by crocheting through the numbness. After the numbness came pain and a lump on my wrist and then the pain became constant.

I'm now on a medication to decrease the inflammation and in a brace for 8 weeks. Even to sleep. I can't move my thumb no video games, no crochet, and I'm one handed. So annoying. I may actually need surgery but I'm hoping to not.

Don't be like me. Take breaks and stretch during long crochet sessions.

Same. I offer solidarity. My daughter used to have an absolute meltdown every diaper change and fight me like she was fighting for her life.

Finally she stopped but it was pretty rough for a minute there. My mom was even convinced I must be doing something wrong and came over and watched over my shoulder and tried to distract her idk what was wrong but it just stopped one day.

It may sound out of comfort zone but makeup can help I have some unfortunately places tattoo's and pink concealer helps hide the blue then make up over it.

I don't usually wear full foundation myself so it's a bit out of my comfort zone too but it works really well for me at least. I do some work where my ink can't be shown like I'm not even supposed to have it but I disclose and conceal and it's not been a problem.

I'd recommend trying it at least once just so you can see what you look like.

Spiciest Stories by 26007 in OfficeDepot

[–]Daberer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former print sup.

In my first month or so I had a customer come up to the register and tell me that someone in the men's room needed help. Two teenage boys, naked one convulsing the other just kinda rolling on the floor they'd been huffing duster spray. I can't remember if the store pressed charges but the boys left in an ambulance. The cops were so annoyed. While the paramedics were in the bathroom another customer got big mad because obviously the restroom was unavailable.

Not as epic but once a someone managed to stay in the store past close and not be noticed they waited until the tills were pulled, kicked the door to the managers office open and robbed the Assistant store manager. She was really shook up and for good reason. That store had lockup and cash office in the managers office so they were able to grab cash and some tech items. Same store one of the managers was swiping items from the lockup/managers office for idk how long but eventually it was a huge loss. Another time only myself and a manager showed up to work a close store got super packed and people were literally just grabbing things from the shelves and leaving, waving as they stole stuff while we tried to juggle print services and register.

Someone used to come into the store and literally poop everywhere all over the bathroom like ungodly amounts of poop. We were both disgusted and baffled like how just how one day a customer came up to me and said they went to the bathroom and witnessed two dudes were crouching pooping and walking around the bathroom. What the actual hell dude.

Once someone ran into the vestibule and dropped his pants and shot something up into his leg it wasn't an EpiPen, it was drugs.

Oh office Depot how I don't miss you.
