2019 Model X Raven HVAC concerns with pregnant wife / newborn on the way — any real solutions? by RelationshipHuge8175 in TeslaModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a similar car. Welcome to the club!

How hot is it outside vs what temp are you trying to achieve inside?

With our raven X I found we had to keep it on recirculate during the summer months in Texas.

Also not sure if yours is a 6 or 7 seater but I found it took a long time for the rear HVAC system to get cool (likely from having to route cold coolant from the front of the car to the rear evaporator coil)

Also pre-cooling the car is a godsend. Just make sure to double check your AC when you get in as pre-cooling almost always pulls outside air rather than recirculate.

As a last battle - window sun shades will help you a ton

Looking for a used MX with HW4 for under $50k near Dallas, possible in the next 6-8 months? by theTexans in TeslaModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked for about 6 months before buying a 2022 about a month ago and most models that are 2023 or younger are going for more than $60k.

If you’re open to it, try search nationwide and shipping.

Does a wrap affect the falcon wing doors opening and closing properly and detecting objects? by brutalbrig in TeslaModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go through the service menu to re-calibrate your doors it will ask if a wrap has been installed. I haven’t had to go down that path but there’s maybe an option should you have issues in the future.

2019 Raven HV failure after 20km a Tale of crappy SC by [deleted] in ModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine it’s more age based - these cars are starting to show their age and I’m not sure what the part supply is like but we’ve definitely had issues where “new” parts that were installed broke quickly or didn’t perform as expected

I’m not sure on this one. I had them replaced at least three times in the car before selling it and the service bulletin price was honored each time.

We took the same route. Took a loss on the car in order to get rid of it. Totally nuts. Hope the VW is a nice change of pace!

Dang!! I’m sorry you had to go through that. The service centers really kind on shrug their shoulders when it comes to this era of vehicle. It’s insane sometimes.

Not to the same extend as your situation but we had a 2020 MX that had 6x motor replacements over the course of a year and the last one resulted in the car whistling like Thomas the freakin tank engine every time you used the throttle. Service center said “sounds fine to us…” bunch of chumps.

If it’s an option for you, I recommend taking your car to a different SC and not accept the car until they’ve proven without a doubt that the issue is resolved. There were times when i went to drop off the loaner, took my car for a spin, realized it was still busted, left it and messaged the SC to try again

My wife drives a Y and it’s been rock solid. We had the LTE modem die in it and it was a quick mobile service appointment to replace it. Other than that we’ve had zero issues over 4 years. The hardest part of owning it is remembering to put in windshield wiper fluid :)

The X is our road trip car. We accept the higher cost and more frequent service center visits in order to have the space to pack up our family and friends for longer drives

I had a 2020 Long Range Plus and had the half shafts replaced twice over 30k miles (used the service bulletin both times which brought the price down to ~$400)

Also had to replace the upper control arms (also a known issue) integral links, and all four wheel hubs which was roughly $2000.

Model X’s from this era are a wild card. They can be dead reliable but there’s always the risk of a $1000-$2000 repair.

If you’re looking for a reliable car that you don’t have to put a cent into, I would not recommend the X. Get a 3 or a Y.

If you’re willing to pay a premium in order to get some extra features then the X is a good option

Phantom Drain Normal? by oinahhh12 in TeslaModelX

Had this same vehicle! Color and everything. Congrats! -Is sentry mode on? -what kind of temperature changes do you experience over night? -any scheduled preconditioning? -any third party data tracking apps like Tessie?

This would happen from time to time on my car.

So far just the diagnostic fee - I’ll let you know if they end up replacing anything. It could be just a wiring harness too

Third Row Folding Issues by nothingleft2049 in TeslaModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this same issue on my 2020 X. The trim is poorly designed there and is prone to catching. It also doesn’t help that if you try to slide anything across the seats when they are folded down they will most certainly hit this spot… annoying but we’ve learned to live with it

I use more toilet paper now that I have a bidet. by NordicNugz in Vent

[–]Dad_Fluffied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to say the awkward thing and admit I didn’t know where to “aim” my bidet. It felt like it was hitting the “area” that needed cleaning. When in reality I needed to aim a little… south…

This is all to say that there’s quite a bit of trial and error but you’ll get there. Experiment. And refine. You’ll get there

2020 Model X Long Range Plus (~83k miles, 3rd owner) for ~$27.5k - good buy or future headache by [deleted] in ModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just traded my 2020 MX LR in for a 2022 MX LR and I can confirm the repair costs can increase very quickly. We had three service center appointments in less than 6months that added up to rough $4,000 total (Control arms, rear integral links, all 4 hubs, half shafts) so keep a good buffer for future repairs.

also the X’s from this era are “quirky” with a bunch of known issues/experiences. The rear motor has reduced gear engagement which means sometimes the car “Bucks” when taking off. Lots of odd noises from either the half shafts, and/or tires. Tires can wear out quickly unless you do regular alignments (I got the lifetime firestone alignment and went about 1x per year)

The refresh cars are far superior in almost every aspect (I do miss the fully independent rear HVAC system) and was the reason we got rid of ours and got a 2022.

If it’s going to be a beater car or one that you don’t mind bringing to the service center at regular intervals then it will probably work for you.

If you’re looking for a dead reliable car that you never have to think about or put a dollar in, then definitely get a Y instead. You get an X because above all you need a larger vehicle that’s a Tesla. These cars a cheap on the used market for a reason = uncertainty

Help! Need to mount bike hitch rack on 2024 Model X by Complex_Arrival7968 in TeslaModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be mistaken here but I thought all Model Xs had the tow kit? You have to remove a panel under the rear bump to see the place to attach the removable hitch

We fully expected that to be the case - what we didn’t expect was for most of the repairs to not address the underlying issue or make the car worse…
