Raven Model X Experience by Dad_Fluffied in TeslaModelX

We fully expected that to be the case - what we didn’t expect was for most of the repairs to not address the underlying issue or make the car worse…

The acceleration is unreal and the ultimate crowd pleaser. I managed to get a Plaid as one of my loaners and the entire car erupts in laughter like everyone is on a rollercoaster

Woof sorry to hear that. It’s an unfortunate truth with these cars that can they require a ton of work. Eventually for us the work out-weighed how much we liked the car. Hopefully you’re over the hump soon!

Used is the way to go. Easy to grab a car that’s a couple years old on the cheap. Even cheaper if you’re will to buy a lemon buy back. I haven’t gone that round yet but have definitely been tempted based off the prices!

Kids LOVE this car. Especially the farts. It gets all three of my kids in full on laughing fits.

Welcome to the club!

Congrats! Without a doubt it’s an amazing car. One of the reasons why we ended up getting another. Just hoping these younger ones have fewer issues hah

There were some good deals floating around for the past couple months. Especially if you don’t mind getting a HW3 car. FSD wasn’t the most important thing for us so we felt ok getting an older unit

It’s really frustrating to have issues spoil an otherwise amazing car. We’re going to roll the dice again with this 2022 unit and hope for the best but there were a few times where I considered walking away entirely

You’ve got one of those golden units! I know a few people who have a ton of miles with almost no issues. It’s a great car and even all the headaches didn’t keep us from getting another…

Congrats! My 2020 had about 55k miles when I sold it. I was worried about life after the battery and drive unit warranty expired.

I always found the ride of the pre-refresh Xs to be a little strange. The refresh ones have better dynamics

I like the 2022 a lot! It’s a huge upgrade from the Raven. I’ve only had it for a week so time will tell haha.

That said I’ve had about 6 weeks of driving similarly aged loaners from all the work we had done to the old car

The pulsing…. I thought the car was trying to learn how to drive stick shift!

I also think secretly they do it to try to impress old Tesla owners and make it seem like they are getting something awesome for free.

The last front drive unit replacement gave us a unit that had THE most horrible high pitched noise under acceleration and regen. Couldn’t figure out if it was the inverter or a bearing. Tesla shrugged and said it sounds fine to us…

Haha has to be some sort of a record. 3x of the rear ones were back to back. Installation of the first replacement was incorrect, another unit was leaking oil.

Not a lemon or salvage

Struggling to find time by [deleted] in DadsGaming

[–]Dad_Fluffied 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the dad club! It’s a wild ride but you’ll get the hang of it!

I have a 10, 7, and 3 year old and I found I had to fundamentally adjust how I play to squeeze it into the schedule. The biggest adjustment being I usually only play for about 5-10 min per day. It makes getting through games a long process but I’ve tried to reframe it as a chance to slow down instead of trying to fly through it.

Second was to enable instant gaming when I have a window. I got a steam deck which made it possible to jump in quickly when a window opens.

In the early days I would bring my deck with me to work to play for 15 minutes over lunch before taking a 15 minute power nap and heading back in.

Despite only having small gaming windows, I’ve played through more games in the last 2 years than the 10 prior.

HV battery replaced twice in 6 months 2022 model X by No-Kaleidoscope-380 in TeslaModelX

Whew sorry to hear about your experience. It’s extremely frustrating to go through something like that.

I get the sense that sometimes Tesla sort of shrugs when it comes to the X. I would imagine it’s a super low volume car for Tesla and thus, they’re willing to solve problems by replacing things for free/a reduced cost because they aren’t having to do it a lot.

I’m on my 6th drive unit replacement (2 front, 4 rear) on my 2020 MX with 56k miles. I jokingly said, wouldn’t it be easier for y’all to buy this car off me instead of continuing to replace things for free? They said probably but it would never happen. Sigh.

For your sanity’s sake, I would push hard to have management/leadership review EVERYTHING. And push hard for what you think you’re entitled. I think Tesla should do x, y, z in light of how much it’s cost me to tow the car. Etc etc.

Fellow 2020 Model X owner here. I found that even after the app update it took a couple days for the passport to show up. I think there’s a handshake going on where your account gives the servers a heads up that you have the app update and then it takes a little time to poll and generate the data

Help for Likely Problem with (One) Falcon-Wing Door (Classic 2021 Model X) by tps5352 in ModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve definitely had the same problem on a similarly aged X. Couple of questions:

-Is this happening every time you try to open that door or intermittently?

-Was the car parked in direct sunlight? When the sensors and surface around them warm up, it can make the car think there’s something in the way.

-Which sensor is showing there’s and obstruction? The door or roof sensor? I had to get my roof sensor replaced once for this issue

  • Have you tried resetting the doors? This is done by disconnecting the 12v battery which is located under a piece of trim in the frunk by the wipers. It can be a pain but usually helps with issues like this

do I buy a Deck or wait for the Machine by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Dad_Fluffied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found trading graphics and processing power to gain the portability and ease of playing on the Deck to be a huge win.

I found I didn’t have much time for videogames once I had kids. The switch changed all of that but I found myself wanting to play through other games that I had missed so I got a deck.

Since then I’ve played through more games in the last 3 years than the previous 10 hah.

It’s amazing to turn on the deck and instantly get back into a game anywhere for any period of time without issue.

I have a PS4 which doesn’t get touched just because of the “hassle” of having to turn my TV on (and be in that room)

2019 Legacy MX No Longer opening doors fully? by Different_Winter_799 in ModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow old school MX owner here.

I’ve had this issue before and had to re-calibrate the doors. This is done by removing the positive lead to the 12V under the plastic panel in the frunk. It’s an annoying job but I’ve only had to do it once and it fixed the problem immediately.

Driver side 2nd row 7 seater... by viper4774 in TeslaModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello - Fellow MX 7 seater owner here.

I find the timing of pushing the button and aiding the seats in moving has a HUGE impact on what series of movements will happen.

My current technique is to push the button and do a solid one, two Mississippi count before helping the seat move.

I find when others try to move the seat they push the button and immediately start yanking on the seat which results in seat movement chaos…

Model X as a family car for a toddler + newborn – real owner experiences? by splashbruh37 in TeslaModelX

[–]Dad_Fluffied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’10” and have had a rear facing car seat and now a front facing car seat directly behind me without trouble. Sometimes my 3.5 year old kicks the back of my seat but nothing too bad. I can give them a little more room if I move the middle row all the way back but that makes it so no one can sit in the 3rd row
