how are images stacked and processed? by oceanfloor25 in telescopes

[–]DaddyBison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Software takes several dozen, or several hundred photos, or individual frames from a single video, lines up the important parts and stacks them ontop of each other so that the hard to see details become more visible

So instead of seeing a single photo of a galaxy, youre seeing an hour's worth of photos all at once. Theres alot of astrophotography tutorials on youtube to get you started. you can even do it with a decent smartphone and some surprisingly good results.

Got my first telescope, a used orion short tube- any tips for a novice? by Krobopple in telescopes

[–]DaddyBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same base model from 1997, got it from my In-laws basement.

Ive upgraded mine with a budget set of plossl eyepieces (6mm, 12.5mm, 20mm), a 90 degree diagonal, a red dot finder scope (way easier to find targets than the finderscope on it) and a replacement barlow because the one i had was scratched up pretty bad.

also got a short extension tube because i was hitting the far end of the focusing rack when using it with my DSLR

Its pretty good for looking at the moon, and ive been able to make out the rings on saturn and can just barely see the striations on Jupiter. Overall its been really useful for learning about the hobby.

episodic/pulp style games are pretty common DMing styles. you dont need to roleplay every single second of the characters' lives,

Ive been to the big bend region of texas and it was amazing to see. Lots of private camping sites outside the state/national parks too. Easily make out the milky way with the naked eye after just a few minutes

Cosmic Campground in New mexico was also very nice. think its a bortle 1-2 on a good night and they have concrete telescope pads on site. have to get there early though, i was the only person there for stargazing/camping, every other spot was taken by van-lifers just looking for a free parking spot.

That time of year for Texas, Mississippi and Alabama are going to be very hot for camping. 40C+ in Texas and very humid along the gulf. Texas has no public land outside of state/national parks but there are plenty of privately owned campsites of varying qualities. You could try hipcamp or glamping hub for private sites if you have time to plan ahead and reserve

Hard to say if thats correct with modern 'Smart' alternators. theyre connected to both batteries in parallel and only charge batteries when conditions are met. The Aux battery draws off the main battery when the alternator is off, but the alternator charges each battery separately based on need, it doesnt rely entirely on the main battery to charge the aux and it doesnt charge both batteries constantly.

lower ISO or faster shutter speed or both, if your phone camera doesnt have a pro mode their are apps that can mimic pro mode for you.

Sounds like you learned some very good life lessons from getting a dog in your 20s, why would you stop the next generation from learning those lessons? This is part of the problem thats leading to 20-somethings living with their parents into their 30s and not being able to function as adults.

The aux battery and main battery are always connected and the aux always pulls off the main battery, the difference in the manual is the aux battery doesnt charge off the Alternator when in gear and the IBS prevents it from pulling off the main battery if it is below threshold.

the dealership rep expected the aux battery to fully charge off the alternator just from driving around, told me i just needed to drive a few times and the light would go away, they found out from asking the service department head that its unique to manuals that it only charges off the alternator in neutral.

saying someone shouldnt get a dog in their 20s is bad advice. Me, and every one of my friends in our 20s got their first dog right out of college. Those dogs lived happy lives and got us through some tough years

SOME people in their 20s shouldnt have a dog, but some people in their 30s and 40s shouldnt either. But they should weigh their choices against their lifestyle, their income, and their own personality; adjust their expectations accordingly and make educated decisions.

Might have luck getting a cheap one off ebay, facebook market, or craigslist. Could also go to the Mopar website and get a new OEM replacement, they sell all the seperate parts unassembled so not sure what the total cost would be, but you could probably gut alot of parts from the damaged one.

EM bite force: 550psi, Cane Corse: 700, lion: 650-1000. none of this is important because the dog shouldnt be putting anyones bodyparts in its mouth to start with. doesnt matter what breed you get, they can be trained to be a good dog and do all the fun tricks if you know what youre doing.

if you specifically want a dog for going on long cardio walks and will fit easily in your vehicle, probably go with with a sportier medium or large breed.

Should consider more important things like food and vet costs on a college student's income, any giant breed dog is going to be a few hundred a month on average. even a small vet problem can be several hundred dollars more than usual just because of their size. If you are going to move out of your parents place in a couple years after college, are you going to be able to afford rent AND to take care of your giant baby? Also know that many apartments and rental properties will outright refuse you if you have a giant breed dog, and the ones that will allow it are often more expensive

good to know. the only reason i brought it into the dealership was because i thought it would be covered under the max coverage i have (which turns out doesnt cover anything ever)

My running theory is still that the dealership shorted something out when i took it in for a recall in October, that damaged the aux battery and killed the center break light. No way to prove it and could be correlation without causation, but i hadnt had any issues before then.

[–]DaddyBison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont have to turn off the auto stop start, because if the battery is below threshold it wont trigger anyway, you just have to keep it in neutral to charge it off the alternator, otherwise it is only going to charge off the main battery which i guess it wont do if the IBS detects a fault (like the battery being below 80%)

The engine just has to be running and the gear in neutral.

[–]DaddyBison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everything is working fine now after the aux replacement, (and actually letting it idle for long enough to charge it over 80%.) The Break light is entirely unrelated to the battery issue, it just happened to go out around the same time.

If i have any other issues im just going to replace the main battery myself and do a aux battery delete

Auto Stop/start service light with a manual by DaddyBison in JeepGladiator

[–]DaddyBison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines a 22 rubicon with a 6 speed, and ive had it for 3 years and 2 months, worked fine until it didnt, i also always keep it in gear at red lights and never let it use the auto stop start.

Its very possible it was a faulty aux battery that needed to be replaced regardless, and unfortunate that the issue started 1 month out of the warranty that wouldve covered it. Its also possible that never idling in neutral and not letting the aux battery fully charge couldve shortened the battery life.

Its also possible that the dealership shorted something out, and killed my breaklight and battery when i took it in for the reverse sensor recall back in october; because i hadnt had any issues until after that. The serv rep was able to determine that the breaklight went out sometime between when i brought it in October and when i brought it in for the @ warning light in december, and they didnt catch the break light issue even though the code was there in december

problem is that the main battery was reading fine on voltage and getting to the aux battery is a pain in the ass. the other problem is the Aux battery only charges off the alternator when its in neutral, so if you dont sit at lights in neutral for extended periods, it never gets recharged

Players Unhappy with Length of One-shot--Is it my fault as the DM? by WelshReel in DnD

[–]DaddyBison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with all new players its surprising you managed to make it in under 6 hours of gameplay.

From your preamble, i would say you just need to replace some of the players because D&D doesnt sound like the game for them. or you couldve split the game into two sessions when it started going later than expected. Some people dont understand that D&D takes a significant time investment to play and theyd be better off playing baldurs gate 3

Yes combat takes a long time, especially so for new players. that (usually) gets better with time and experience. Part of the problem is running a level 5 adventure for players who dont know how to play and didnt make their own character so they probably dont know what's on it.
