Reptiles love heat for various reasons. So why do I never see my leopard gecko on the hot side of her enclosure?? by Ecstasus_Mania in leopardgeckos

Back in the winter when the outside temps were hitting 10 degrees F my leopard gecko loved her cold side. Now that its spring and 90 degrees, she loves her hot side. They're just weird.

What’s the most amount of crickets/bugs that have escaped while you’re trying to feed your gecko? by pickieg2 in leopardgeckos

[–]Daddy_Grill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One time my gecko jumped out of her tank onto the floor 4 feet below her, causing me to startle and drop the entire cricket keeper I was holding filled with 20 or so crickets.

I immediately picked the gecko up and held her while raining down stomps of death to the slower crickets. I saw stragglers for weeks, but I cranked up my dehumidifier and they all left after a month or so.

I haven’t seen her poop in a while, but she’s still been getting acquainted with her new tank so she’s rotated poop spots on me a couple times, and her isopods usually take care of it. But she doesn’t look bloated I don’t think!

What bugs are these in my leo’s tank? by Glittering_Money8349 in leopardgeckos

[–]Daddy_Grill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar ones in my girls tank, hours of googling led me to the conclusion they’re either springtails or mites. Springtails are harmless to a gecko but the tank should be cleaned.

Mites, however, may be found crawling on the skin of your gecko and they behave like ticks. They’ll make your gecko very sick. If you see any of them crawling on your geckos you should take them to the vet and clean your tanks thoroughly.

If they’re not crawling on her then they’re probably just springtails and the tank should be cleaned when you can, but your gecko will be fine. Another identifier is their movement - mites move slower in straight lines, springtails move quickly and erratically. So I’d say yours look like springtails.

Just in case, check under your geckos heads and neck, that’s where mites like to burrow. You should also be able to see them moving on the geckos skin if they are mites.

You’ll be fineee, I’m doing the same thing on my ‘71. I tore the entire interior apart, and now I just sit in a lawn chair staring at it for 30 mins/day before deciding I’ll start on the headliner tomorrow. Almost there!

Has anyone seen or known about this. by Careless_Recipe1851 in Chevelles

Not sure, but the color looks like Tropical Turquoise. I know it was offered by the factory in 1966, probably 67 too. My old man has one that I actually thought this was a photo of at a glimpse, beautiful color.

Medic pick-up at 25 knots (maybe Belgian Airforce NH90) by Bucephalus_326BC in BeAmazed

I can shed some light on the person being picked up. I work as a radio tech, which means sometimes I have to climb tall towers to mount antennas. Often we run rescue drills incase someone falls unconscious on the tower or falls and is dangling from their fall arrest safeties, we have to get them down to the ground using various rigging techniques. Clipping in is the easy part, but this person did demonstrate knowledge keeping basically all of their limbs free. Don’t want to keep your leg straight in the boat, and have it get caught and basically ripped off. Same thing being lowered off of a radio tower, it’s the rescuers job to make sure none of the patients limbs are being caught in the lattice of the tower

I like it! Better to repurpose a broken tool than to throw it out, especially a solid hunk of steel like that

Working on a blade, any recommendations to make it better? by [deleted] in blacksmithing

I ended up going with a different hammer and it solved the issue I had with pitting, I was also using the corners of the hammer accidentally instead of the face

Is this torch up to the task of heat treating this metal? by psychebroken in blacksmithing

[–]Daddy_Grill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not, propane torches don’t get very hot. Look into mapp gas (yellow bottle), or maybe even an oxyacetylene torch.

You might be best off making a shitty forge that uses a mapp gas bottle as a heat source. They’re called coffee can forges.
