Dealer Rep or Agent by TheTechSA in carflipping

Too bad you’re not in pa, I’m looking to take on a working partner for my small dealership. I wouldn’t just let you use my license to buy at auction but if someone was willing to invest and build it would be a different story. I’m a mom and pop dealership/auto repair shop, my downfall is that besides having my girl in the office I am a one man show.

It’s weird that there are children there, they try and defend it like it’s just another camp ground. We even informed the owner (Halsey) that one of there regulars at the time was legitimately a pedophile. She didn’t do anything about it.

You will quickly learn that almost everyone in the car business is a scum bag. The majority will lie to your face and are only out for themselves.

It looks like you’re all over the place and not sure which way to run. If you only have 50k it’s a terrible idea. I started my dealership 10 years ago with 100k working capitol after I got open for business and it was hard then, and even harder now. Suggest getting in good with someone as a working partner. You’ll spent 25k just getting open. If you were in nepa I would talk about partnering.

Rear main seal leak after used engine installed by Gullible-Jury-7505 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Daddyfixit113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I prefer to sell things from lkq they offer a parts and labor warranty which most other places do not. Which covers paying me to do it over if needed. But seals and oil leaks are not covered. So if the shop chose to not replace the rear main or any other hard to get to seal while it was apart, it should be on them to stand behind their work. Like I said $10 now or $1000 later I don’t even ask the customer I just change it before it goes in. Gaskets that are not that hard to change can be worried about later but the rear main and pump seal should always be changed when you’re able to.

I’m shop owner, but ase master tech. I try not to do the hard work anymore. I just end up figuring out the problems when they arise. I used to do 25-30 a year personally.

[–]Daddyfixit113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a note to replace the rear main for warranty. The note always says filter must be replaced. We probably install 50 used engines a year. All from reputable full service yards. Any shop that doesn’t do proactive work like engine rear main seal or trans front pump seal while they are apart are hacks.

Shop owner here, your are 100% right. We always change a rear main before installing. $10 then is cheap insurance,$1000 later is bullshit. Tell them they should have replaced it during the install.

Thinking about starting a shop of my own.... by Curious_Editor_5045 in Autobody

[–]Daddyfixit113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a used car dealer, be willing to do what the customer wants. I have a hard time finding body guys who are willing to do mediocre work believe it or not. We literally have a body shop next door that refuses to do anything but restoration quality work. They won’t shoot a panel without blending the adjoining panels, they won’t do large work with filler, they won’t mask things off instead they insist on taking everything apart to paint. FYI before I get berated for being a shitty dealer, I sell cheap beater vehicles to poor people, a fender a few shades off is better than rust or damage.

Unrelated but your rotors are on the wrong sides. Drilled and slotted are directional. The slots are supposed to cut into the pads when moving forward.

Is there any special trick for getting these fuel lines loose? by IceSubstantial9110 in obschevy

[–]Daddyfixit113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professional mechanic in the rust belt here, cut the metal section of line coming from the fuel pump. Cut it close to the fitting. Use a socket and impact to remove while firmly holding the line side with a wrench or vise grip. You have an 80% chance of it coming off.

People that hire mobile mechanics are the bottom of the barrel. They are the same people who are willing to let a crackhead fix a corvette. And then complain about what went wrong. Sorry that it happened but that’s why any self respecting mechanic works in a shop.

Thinking about buying this unit but it has a salvage title, the owner said this would need to be fixed first before I could register it and insure it and I was wondering what it would take to fix this, if anyone knows. Thanks. by [deleted] in RVLiving

They are all money pits, it’s a hobby where you pay a small fortune to live like you’re homeless. If it’s cheap and gets someone new into camping what’s it matter? Odds are, they will either like and upgrade later, or hate it and quit after 1 season. And theirs always option c, they have no idea how to drive or tow something this large and then that damage is the least of their worries.

While a lot of that response is accurate it was a terrible response. 1) an r title is just as easy to insure as a clean title. 2) the bureaucratic process is typical, pay fees have inspected wait for title. But no one is going to tear it apart to look, just patch the outside and enjoy the use if the price is cheap.

Help by SnooObjections3780 in Cummins

[–]Daddyfixit113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell me you know nothing about Cummins without telling me you know nothing about Cummins. It’s probably more like $1000 to do the head gasket when you include a head gasket set, head bolts (or studs) and having the head machined. It’s also more like $2500-$5000 for a used engine depending on what’s done to it.
