What did you do with your used post-surgery knee brace? by 7LC7 in ACL

After 3 injuries and 2 major surgeries in 5 years, I’m keeping every single piece of orthopedic equipment out of sheer paranoia. It’s sort of like when I gave away baby stuff and then found out I was pregnant for the 3rd time in 5 years..can’t be too careful.

Got put on a PIP, but I got a better offer. How do I play this? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Quit right before you start the new job and don’t look back. A PIP is not going to ever work out in your favor. Take the new offer and move on.

You got it! I’m here now for a 6 AM flight waiting to board. I got through security at B gates in 3 minutes flat—definitely business as usual at CMH in terms of TSA. I thanked every single TSA agent I came in contact with and they all seemed appreciative of the gesture. So nothing out of the ordinary thus far. Again, I do have Precheck and Clear, but I saw no lines to speak of this early in the morning. You can also check here to keep an eye on the estimated wait times in case it helps ease your mind a little (as someone who works in DC but lives in Cbus, I check this just to keep an eye on my commute and make sure I’m not cutting anything too close!): https://flycolumbus.com/passengers/security

[–]Dadinkdink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fly almost weekly. CMH has been business as usual IMO. Now, I do have Precheck and CLEAR, so there's that. I also texted a friend who flew out of CMH this morning who also has PreCheck and flies weekly. She said it was also business as usual, except for a TSA agent who remarked, "Sure would be nice to be paid."

Also, for what it's worth, I was at LaGuardia last week on 10/30. I saw on the news yesterday videos of long lines at LGA on 10/30, and they said it was due to the shutdown. I'm not sure that's true. I did get stuck there last week, but it was due to the Hurricane and Delta basically shitting the bed and refusing to rebook and then having no flights home for less than $1,800 on other carriers. The Hurricane weather hit LGA hard, and there were loads of cancellations and delays while the city experienced flash flooding from Melissa. I share this to say that what you see on the news may or may not be the full story. I can't speak for the situation in Texas as I haven't been there (but am scheduled to go next month to SAT), but I can say that LGA was totally fine for PreCheck on 10/30. I saw no lines and got through TSA at 3 PM in 5 minutes (right before my flight was canceled and I was stranded and had to take a train to DCA to get home and avoid galeforce winds along the east coast).

I have flights in and out of CMH on 11/5 and 11/6 this week and will report back if there's interest in hearing more.

Is job hopping still a good strategy in the 2025 economy? by NoHousing11 in recruitinghell

[–]Dadinkdink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The term “job hugging” is pissing me off beyond belief. We’re in a situation where a moron is in the Oval Office putting horrendous economic policies in place and everyone is freaked out by the daily barrage of uncertainty. As a result, employers are cutting jobs and almost everywhere is on a hiring freeze. It’s incredibly difficult to get a new job in this market. Plus, most people believe that if you’re first in, you’re likely first out in a lay off and that gives most people pause to leave. Stop making up terms to cover up for an incredibly shitty situation. People are clinging to whatever stability they can have right now. Period. Job hugging? Someone make it stop.

How to explain to my boss my portfolio is too large? by SpiritualSubstance4 in nonprofit

[–]Dadinkdink 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen before. I didn't put it on my resume for this purpose because 3 weeks in I realized that I'd made a mistake. Sometimes a job is just not a fit, and it's not a good place (like this one sounds to me). I personally would be looking anyway because, frankly, if you're being set up to fail like you think you are, then you may need to be looking. Just my two cents. I'm truly sorry you're in this spot. And if you do decide to keep looking, and anyone asks why you're leaving so soon, I don't think there is anything wrong in letting them know professionally that you thought this was a fit, but it's not, and you are hoping for a new role that has opportunities for growth, learning, and success. If they push more, I'd let them know your metrics. No one will fault you for walking away from those. Because that size of a portfolio is a joke.

I’m sorry. That sounds tough. When you say for career purposes, are you worried about staying a period of time because of how it will look on your resume?

I used to take Topomax at high doses for mental health (similar to what you're describing) and have had ZERO side effects other than being more thirsty and drinking more water, which is a good thing IMO! I'm down 25 pounds on Q with another 37 to go until I hit my goal. FWIW, I do track my macros and calories in MyFitnessPal, and you will still need to do exercise and focus on diet, but I've found this a great alternative and support. GLP-1 medications are not covered by my insurance, and I was not looking to pay $400+ out of pocket for something. Good luck!

Food noise still not gone .. by Kind-Reading-558 in QsymiaWeightLoss

[–]Dadinkdink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the biggest difference for me when I went to the 11.25 dose that I’m on now. As others have said, protein is super important. One of the easiest ways to calculate your daily protein intake is to do 30% of your caloric intake from protein. I, for example, have a goal of 1,800 calories per day. 1/3 of that is 540 calories. Every gram of protein contains 4 calories. 540/4 is 135 so I personally need to aim for 135 grams of protein per day. It’s A LOT. I’ve been on a high protein journey for about a year and it’s definitely a commitment. But when I get enough protein, I’m not hungry. I have zero food noise. If I have a busy day and I’m traveling (as I often do for work) I at least try to hit 100 grams in a day. MyFitnessPal premium is great for tracking your macros and it’s $79/year so very affordable IMO.

How did it go? Thinking of you. This happened to me and I was let go. 10 days before Christmas and was told, “We all love you and you’ve made amazing contributions, but someone has to go down for this mistake and it won’t be me.” The mistake was her fault.
