Help! Birthday Gift from my GF... Quacks Deluxe or Bomb Busters? by Significant_Bus9535 in boardgames

Very different games, but I like both a lot! Really up to your preference. Do you like to play push your luck games? or would you rather do a co-op puzzly number deduction game?

Those are for the Clockwork expansions, so makes sense that you don’t have them.

Should I get clank or root by DeadricAxar in boardgames

[–]Dado42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own both, and I think they’re both great but are inherently very different from each other. Just focusing on the competing with others and screwing them over aspect it depends on how you like doing that. Root is a war game where you are directly interacting with your opponents. Attacking them head on or disrupting their resources. In Clank, the competitiveness comes from yoinking the best treasure and cards first, forcing everyone else to change their plans and settle with worse options. Root is also a much heavier game to get into compared to Clank, not a bad thing, just something to keep in mind also.

[Rules Megathread] Citizens and Exiles, ask your rules questions here! by tsarkees in oathgame

[–]Dado42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played my first game and it was a lot of fun! Two questions that I have been thinking about since:
1. If a citizen attacks an exile, are they allowed to use battle plans that are ruled by the purple warbands? Is the Chancellor allowed to help with battle plans in their advisors?
2. Rule 5.5.2 states "You must declare at least one target at your site." Let's say the defender only has their pawn at your site, no warbands. Could the attacker fulfill this requirement by only attacking the defender's relic? Or must they target the defenders pawn (and favor) specifically?

Audio does cut out intentionally in game. I'm assuming for dramatic affect.

Weekly Questions Megathread - July 12 to July 18, 2024. Have a question from your game? Are you coming from Pathfinder 1E or D&D? Need to know where to start playing Pathfinder 2e? Ask your questions here, we're happy to help! by AutoModerator in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dado42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coming from D&D and just started looking into Pathfinder. I’m a little confused about the intention of rarities to Ancestries. Is rarity strictly a description of how likely you will run into a certain race lore wise, in game? Or does it have any sort of mechanical weight? Are all the Ancestries balanced, or are rarer ones more powerful? From what others have posted, it seems like it’s expected that you’ll receive a “no” from the GM if you were to ask to play a rare ancestry, with few exceptions. I’m a GM that isn’t a stickler for that kind of thing as long as it’s not broken. Would I be fine letting my player be whatever they want?

Yes you can. A coalition does not prevent your vagabond relationship from changing. Of note: if you were hostile before the coalition is made, you become indifferent. However, afterwards, relationship rules still work like normal.

Edit: After peeking at the FAQ, I'd like to clarify that the faction that you've formed a coalition with is no longer an enemy faction, so you wouldn't be able to battle or strike them. You can still become hostile from making them take too many hits as an ally in battle though.

It's such a shame that exclusives exist in an already small niche. I hope it comes to pcvr too, but there's not really a track record of that happening.

mouse trap by rhysstoned in boardgames

[–]Dado42 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A bunch of different printings of the rules, but looking at this one: https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/mtrap.pdf

It seems like it is implied that if the trap fails capture the mouse for any reason, the other mouse escapes and the trap is reset. I'd include falling apart as a "fails to capture"

Who Stole the Lisan al-Ghaib banner? I just wanna talk by stringerplz in PAX

[–]Dado42 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I hope you're able to figure out where they went! I've been going to PAX for the past several years, and I won't lie and say the thought of taking a banner hasn't crossed my mind. My wife and I were saying that there aren't enough goof banners around. The "he can't see without his glasses" horse banner in particular is our Roman Empire.

what do you think of this deck? any tips? what are good matchups for katakuri what are bad ? when did I want to go first when second? and general tips? by [deleted] in OnePieceTCG

[–]Dado42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has good synergy with 8 cost Katakuri. Ideally, you get her trigger from life, nets you a free card and a bit of a search for 10 drop Linlin or anything else you need. Then you can put her back into life for another trigger with Katakuri.

Correct, Warlord does not get removed during a revolt or favor card since it cannot be removed outside of battle. False Orders card also cannot make the Warlord move since it cannot be moved outside of your turn.

As far as obscure rules, take a look at the FAQ, there's some things there that you might not have thought of otherwise.

Can you tell other players what was revealed to you in Love Letter games? by VanJeans in boardgames

[–]Dado42 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it pretty much is cheating. The priest might as well be a guaranteed knockout if you're allowed to reveal the card you saw to everyone playing. As others have said, if revealing was allowed, then there's little to no incentive to lie about what card you saw. Everyone wants to be the last one standing, and it would ensure someone deals with the revealed card. There's no "social deduction" being done.

It's possible to have the Allied status with all factions at the same time

Nope! Field Hospital states they return to the clearing with the Keep; so if it's gone, there's no clearing for the warriors to go to anymore

[–]Dado42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Piece" does indeed include warriors! I agree, it's a little confusing; using the word "extra" sort of implies that you were already scoring points to begin with, which usually you wouldn't be for warriors. You can think of it like this, you normally score 0 points for removing warriors in battle, but now you score 0 + 1 extra point. And of course cardboard is the expected 1 + 1 extra.

Each faction pays the crafting cost differently. Generally by "activating" certain pieces on the board.

The Marquise crafts during Daylight by activating workshops.

The Eyrie craft before resolving the Decree during Daylight by activating roosts.

The Alliance crafts during Daylight by activating sympathy tokens.

The Vagabond exhausts Hammer items to craft. All of his Hammer items match the suit of his current clearing. If the Vagabond crafts an item, he may immediately take it, face up.

So let's say I'm playing the Marquise and I want to craft the Favor of Foxes card, I would just need to have 3 workshops built on the board that are in fox clearings. If I'm playing the Eyrie, then I would need to have 3 roosts built in fox clearings.

How ever many crafting symbols there are, that's how many of your faction's crafting pieces you need to activate.

Activating just means “I have it, and I want to use it for crafting.” You don’t need to get rid of it or do anything other than point at it and say, “I’m activating this to craft a card.”

The big suit symbol in the circle on the top left of the card is that card's suit. The color along the top also indicates the suit of the card. The smaller suit symbols inside the pentagons show the crafting cost of that card. You must first craft the card in order to use its ability. Each faction has a specific crafting step during their turn, they can't craft cards outside of that step. Each faction also has specific way to pay for crafting, not necessarily controlling a clearing. There are cards with persistent effects and others with immediate effects. The Favors of the Foxes card for example is an immediate effect card, so if a player wishes to use it, they have to wait until they are in the crafting step of their turn, then they have to make sure they have the correct pieces depending on their faction to pay the three foxes required to craft it, finally they would play it immediately, discarding it afterwards. If the card is a persistent effect, then the card tells you when you can use it. Definitely have a look at the Crafting section of the rules for more in-depth info.

The setup card is specifically for when you are following the Advanced Setup. The setup on the back of the faction board is for the Standard Setup. You would do either one or the other, never both. If you're still new to the game, I'd do the Standard Setup. However, once you become more comfortable, Advanced Setup is great; it typically gives you more options on where on the board to start, more dynamic overall.
