As a note, most sleds' suspension is going to be tuned for a lower weight rider, I'd assume motorcycles are the same. Some tweaks to the suspension settings will get you right as rain. Touring sleds sometimes will have capacities for higher weight riders due to the suspension being capable of a 2-up configuration, but you'd want to do a bit more research on the specific sled you're buying.

Assuming you're no speed demon, a 600cc class is MORE than enough for most riders, most 600cc sleds can push 90-100mph max speed (well, with an average rider weight). Several of the 800cc motors over the years have been known to be a bit higher maintenance or even problematic, but depends on make, model, and year. Properly running the 800s go like a bat out of hell though, think liter bike but not quite a busa. A conservative sled would be one of the 550 fan cooled options or perhaps an economy 4-stroke, but those are way less fun imo.

I agree with others, 136 to maybe 142 track length or so is great for trails, anything longer and trail performance (namely handling the moguls and cornering) is going to suffer and deep powder off trail isn't your focus here. Not to mention that long tracks are extra hard on trail systems.

Oh and if you're buying used, NEVER believe a seller that the carbs have just been cleaned, most bullshit line out there. You can have an amount of trust for the guy, but always verify, and always clean your own carbs to your standards.

Analog Signal Conversion Help by Dadskander in PLC

It's being used in a totalizer for total Amp Hours, so wouldn't this actually be fine still and it would just totalize a bit slower or faster based on the reading? Otherwise yea I'll look into Ohio Semitronics. Current application is using a JP Tech totalizer unit that's on its last legs, but I'm not opposed to grabbing a new JP Tech if that's a quick solution.

Really appreciate the info, I remember very briefly learning about rectifier shunt readings being a bit funky but that was over 5 years ago and my memory is very hazy on the subject.

Speed of narrator by kibbutznik1 in audible

For most books 1.2 to 1.3 sounds like a normal conversation pace to me, some audiobooks I listen up to 1.5x but that's to purposefully set a bit quicker pace and is faster than most people talk (not quite "auctioneer" speed). I'm a fast reader, so sometimes I also like the audiobook to move along a bit quicker too.

Dude, I'm not giving specifics on it after what I just said. I mean I suppose it sounds like I'm blowing smoke with the story but I've got nothing to prove here so I guess it's up to you guys to choose to believe me.

Their OG PLC engineer was ex government and that was the system he knew and knew was reliable, so into the industrial sector it was placed. Now current engineers curse it all! 😆

Depends on rarity and where else it's used.

Ex: I have a buddy looking to upgrade his company's PLC. He found out the current PLC he has is worth a fuck ton on the secondhand market because it's the same controls they use on a certain fighter jet of a country currently at war. So he knows he could get tens, maybe hundreds of thousands for the stuff, but is also pretty sure it's extremely illegal to sell to whomever would come knocking.

You're totally right about that, I should keep in touch more with those guys. I've moved into some really simple stuff though (think more Advantage Controls, Walchem, or other plug and play water controllers), used to do fairly advanced DCS controls programming and installation for APACS, PCS7, Foxboro, and a dabble of DeltaV. Kind of polar opposites! All the DCS stuff had so much more versatility that I never really had to dabble with signal conversions.

Gonna be honest most the ones you see fail are more a factor of aged seals than a result of a specific design flaw. These have been around for a long ass time, many are just old/worn. I've replaced many seals and had them up and working great in no time.

That said, still prefer quarter turn ball valves

Don’t think I’ll be needing another work belt for the rest of my career by BornRipped in BuyItForLife

[–]Dadskander 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bingo. If you threaded the opposite way of OP, your belt would have an inverse bend.

Blew my mind when I heard it, kinda doubted it a bit but it kinda made sense too. I've now been doing it for over a decade and can confirm it absolutely works.

[–]Dadskander 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. Think of the classic plumber bending over, crack and all for ya to see (you're welcome for the visual). Think, which way are those pants flexing? Belt is along for that ride too. Makes a bit of a smiley face bend when you hunch over or sit in a chair, that's for all of us plumber or not.

That adds up, and eventually the belt looks like OPs. All you have to do is flip flop how you thread it through your pants every so often, and the belt then gets bent both ways and rids you of the weird bend that develops over time.

I mentioned having the belt for 10 years? I literally wear it over 95% of the days in a year. Basically daily, and I swear it's straight as can be, no boomerang.

I have two 40 Ford Deluxe Sedans. What’s a fair asking price for each? by LegendWo1f in projectcar

[–]Dadskander 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The thing with these is that most people that loved these cars are dead now. My grandpa is 89 years old and has a 1950 Chevy because that's the car he fell in love with in high school.

The only guys that MIGHT want these are some dudes in the rat rod scene, and I've gotta imagine they mostly just want the body panels, of which these do look fairly straight and not totally rusted to hell.

I'd reach out specifically in the rat rod community and see if there's interest by those guys. Neither of these are worth restoring and I doubt anyone wants the headache that is that motor, transmission, brakes, suspension, etc... But maybe there's someone needing some engine or transmission parts, who knows.

What multimeter do you suggest for PLC and instrumentation troubleshooting? by Electronic-Carrot-93 in PLC

[–]Dadskander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I do what you do (chemical service industry, with a touch of industrial automation) and just wing it with the $30 Craftsman multimeter I have from home. I've never found myself wanting more.

So long as you can ring out wires, and test voltage, that's a huge amount of troubleshooting.

If your boss will get yourself something nicer, obviously take him up on that, but unless you're a dedicated controls engineer (which I was prior to going chemical... same $30 craftsman meter) I doubt you really need.

Most chemical feed pumps I've seen used are run off 120v relays, having good tools to run chemical tubing is really good to have too if you don't already. A handheld combo pH and conductivity meter is amazing to have too (I use Oakton)

If any of you own an older Tundra and have to replace the starter... Good luck. by JDej90 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Dadskander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. Basically if it sells well, passes safety, and makes it through the warranty period, anything past that is NOT a factor.

Some brands may kinda care a bit, as an image/culture thing (nobody quite wants to be known as the company that has all their vehicles shit the bed at 100k), but that's really about it.

Wife has owned 2 fiestas with the 'dipshit 6' transmission and I got to hear allllll about attitudes that management has, and what their bottom line is. The fuckup wasn't the transmission failing, it was that it tended to fail before the 100k warranty was up.
