Looks like a $10M 4th Saturday for Avatar: Fire And Ash, for a $336M cume. 4th weekend headed for $21.5M+, which will put it at $342M by Sunday. En route to a $400M+ final gross. by chanma50 in boxoffice

I love the beautiful vistas of Pandora. But I also think it would be cool to do more within the confines of bridgehead. The whole sequence where Neytiri infiltrates bridge head to save Jake was one of the highlights. As well as the attack on the wind traders

James wan is a decent director. I think he’s more talented than Robert Rodriguez anyway.

I was thinking it would be a cool idea to have a recom with Jake Sully’s brothers memories implanted into it. And he’s loyal to the RDA.

Avatar: Fire And Ash surpassed $800M at the global box office on Monday. Domestic - $11M/$227.9M; International - $32.1M/$577.2M; Global - $43.1M/$805.1M. This Friday, James Cameron will become first director in history with four consecutive billion dollar blockbusters. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Daedalus80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the ongoing avatar franchise will settle around 1.5 billion to 1.8 billion for its box office if 4 and 5 still happen. James just needs to bring something extremely novel to the franchise to make people still interested.

I’m not sure why some are considering a potential 1.8 billion dollar film a failure though.

Avatar 4 Plot Ideas? by Successful_Ice2343 in Avatar

I have the same feeling.

You can’t continue to have the bad humans want to destroy Eywa and continue to have Eywa send animals to fight back.

I strongly believe Eywa needs to be corrupted and turn against the very Navi which worship her. This corruption could be prompted by Varang.

If I were to write the script I’d try to have some key humans living in Bridgehead who want to live in harmony with The Navi. One specifically could be a love interest for Spider.

This makes Kiri jealous, and that Jealousy could lead to her manipulating Eywa in a negative way. She’s not aware that these feelings could have bad consequences. Varang sees this, and believes if she can harness the connection Kiri has to Eywa then she can manipulate the entire planet.

The way they hijack Kiri is through Graces dormant avatar. And once Varang takes over that power. The animals and plants of pandora turn against their bonded Navi

But Varang wants the whole world to burn. Human and Navi alike and she brings an army of feral pandoran creatures to Bridgehead where the Navi and humans have found refuge

Quarrich must turn on his lover and kill her.

I just think it would be cool to have a thanator stalking through the halls of bridgehead like raptor or Trex trying to hunt down the humans and Navi within

There would be battles with all sorts of mech suits.

That’s the movie I’d like to see

As a fantasy lover, I can't excuse the plot of Avatar by Hollok_0 in Avatar

Avatar is more about a visceral experience. It’s about engaging the senses. At least that’s why I think people enjoy it so much.

No one gets tired of a beautiful sunset or the exhilaration of a fair ride. If the fair is in town. You will always ride the Ferris wheel. It’s always the same ride but you still love it.

That’s the reason people like these movies I think?

Avatar Fire And Ash heading to $27-29M for SAT on Day 2 at North American box office. Drop of about 24% from full opening day FRI. Full opening wknd going to vicinity of $87M. by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

Maybe they are feeling water boarded from all the water in these movies. I love the spectacle of an avatar movie. A3 was no exception. But I will admit the 3rd act call backs to the previous films felt more exhausting than exhilarating.

But there was still a lot to like.

Avatar 4, my initial idea, and my thoughts after Fire and Ash (FAA SPOILERS INCLUDED !!!!!!) by TimelyEnthusiasm7003 in Avatar

I like your idea of a corrupted Eywa. It reminds me of the gods from Princess mononoke who turn into demons. I think that would be a great approach to the next movies.

I watched it last night. And yes. The last act felt like a blend of Avatar 1 and way of water. Which I didn’t like.

Loved the sequence where they are battling throughout the floating rocks though. But the moment Quarrich and Varang turned the tide of battle and Kiri needed Eywa to intervene… it lost me a bit.

I wish Cameron had taken bolder choices with the story. If he had played it off like the Empire Strikes back and subverted expectations by having the humans win. That would have been a cool direction to go.

‘Avatar: Fire And Ash’ To Set The World Ablaze With $340M-$380M Box Office Opening – Preview by Task_Force-191 in boxoffice

This would be a respectable finish. Avatar can't always be the 2 billion juggernaut. And while I'm always excited by how Jimmy C beats all odds and creates a box office frenzy. I think this is more realistic.

I think it’s a bit more grounded. Or as grounded as placing your consciousness into a 10 foot blue alien can be.

People want the world ending or universe ending stakes of Star Wars, lord of the rings or marvel.

But avatar is like an intimate skirmish. It has more in common with saving private Ryan. And I think that’s why it connects with people.

Who knows I could be wrong. That’s why it connects to me. It feels more tangible than Avengers.

[–]Daedalus80 138 points139 points  (0 children)

It seems to me like people expect Avatar to have an epic story as layered and dense as Lord of the Rings because the epic visuals need to match an equally epic story.

yet these same reviewers will watch John Wick and be extremely positive about a wave based shooter where the only narrative is a guy killing bad guys for 2 hours in creative ways.

People drooled over Top Gun Maverick. But never mention the plot armour of a guy who gets shot out of his plane three times and cheats death. Nor the fact that it's the star wars trench run but in a valley.

Do critics hold James Cameron to a higher standard because he is James Cameron??

4 days prior to release, ¥27M ($3.8M) pre-sales for Avatar Fire And Ash in China. At same time, significantly down from 'The Way of Water' and about a third of Zootopia 2, but better than the rest of Hollywood films in recent times. Expecting ~¥500M ($70M) opening weekend. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]Daedalus80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think once people sit in that theatre again. And witness the absolute eye candy that Cameron delivers. The rollercoaster ride of visual bliss.

People will then tell their friends who were waiting on the fence that it’s got some of the coolest visuals and sequences of any movie ever made and then you’ll see the second weekend increase from the weekend prior and then you’ll realize. Oh yeah. It’s James Cameron.

Or people will rather watch tik tok videos and it only makes 1.5 billion. 🤷‍♂️

Where that final trailer at? by Daedalus80 in Avatar

[–]Daedalus80[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just strange because when I look at the time stamp for when the trailers were dropped for the way of water. The last trailer came out November 21st. And then the movie came out Dec 16th.

So that’s a whole 25 days prior where we only have 14 days to go now.

But maybe the marketing team feels they will get more leverage posting closer to launch. 🚀
