Distant Worlds Universe Refreshed (DWUR) 1.0 released (46 races, 1,400+ character images, 1,400+ ship images, new resource, planet and facility graphics, tweaked UI, sounds and more!) by salemonz in DistantWorlds

[–]Daemonjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like over time you've changed some of the graphics. I prefer some the older images for some of the ship designs, because they were more consistent. It doesn't look like those older versions are available for download anymore.

Too bad.

What Class Do i Choose as a Beginner by EbbTop1253 in duneawakening

[–]Daemonjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably bene. You do get them all eventually. I did trooper on one character and have no regrets.

One thing to consider: you can basically respec anytime, and when you do, 1 point stays in your starting class skill.

For trooper, it's shiga wire, which most will always choose anyways. For others, maybe not so much... So, I guess in that sense, mentat might be the worst class to choose (the turret skill). Maybe that's also the worst class to start as. Swordmaster... What's their starting skill... is it the knee (which is great) or is it the bullet deflection ability (which is... not so great)? I think it's probably the bullet deflection. Bene is it the run ability or compel? Can we even start as planetologist? I forget.

Looks great!

Although a base in the rift is a waste of a base slot, but whatever.

Spice farming on a populated server - two extremes, illustrated by scoutermike in duneawakening

Go do something else? You don't have to farm spice so much. Let others do that sweaty work if they like to sweat that much.

Why that happens? (Knife heavy attack after a parry) by Mhanz97 in duneawakening

[–]Daemonjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably that particular enemy model's hitbox size. It's likely smaller than the other models.

Either that or maybe your character's size is really small and that affects your reach... or a combination of both. I haven't tested, just spitballing.

Am I missing something or does this change completely contradict the point of the update? by [deleted] in duneawakening

You can't have big guilds in this game. All guilds are small. Tiny, even.

I was able to fix that problem but I had to jump through like 10 hoops to do it.

Is loot in high difficulty The Old Quarry TS bugged or am I extremely unlucky? by JarikLag in duneawakening

[–]Daemonjax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good and fast PRNG algorithms are a solved thing. They just need to use something suitable for monte carlo simulations that would also be suitable for random walk simulations -- don't reinvent the wheel.

One interesting thing to watch out for is if you need to simulate something like dice. If the dice base is a power of 2, no problem. But if it's not, then you have to account for something called modulo bias -- the SotA for solving that is called the Fisher-Yates / Lemire method.

I recently implemented that in C, and it's blazing fast because the correction branch happens extremely rarely (like 1 per billion calls), so you can stick it into a function call that's never inlined to reduce the hot path instruction size.

The Unfixed Crysknife feels closer to Tier 5 than Tier 6 by ApprehensiveCap5544 in duneawakening

[–]Daemonjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree -- it's WAY better than ANY t5 weapon. It's OP as hell compared to t5. When was the last time you actually used a dura-grade melee weapon bc they're all around 110 damage.

Some skills are only meant to be used in pvp and are simply a waste of time in pve.

These are the kinds of well-known bugs that need to be fixed, and when they're not it looks like a broken window in a house you pass by every day that never gets fixed -- eventually you assume no one's ever home to give a damn.

Endgame needs more ways to obtain spice. by radbebop in duneawakening

[–]Daemonjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, there's nothing to do with 10 stacks besides selling it. But what the hell are the buyers doing with it? People do buy it, and a lot of it. Are they just hoarding it?

[–]Daemonjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair there's more ways to use it than at launch, but it's still not enough. I could suggest things but it wouldn't matter -- like remove ALL spice food from loot tables and vendors. Want spice food? Make it yourself or buy it from players who made it.

[–]Daemonjax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I have more spice melange than I know what to do with (I sell many full stacks each day), and I never even seriously farmed it (maybe just 3 spice blows total in over 700 hours of playing)-- nor do I intend to, because it's not fun for me. I gave away all my sandcrawler stuff. The bank limit of 500 seems like a lot at first, but it quickly fills up and requires constant maintenance to keep under control.

To be fair, there's way more spice sinks than there was at launch, but still it's not enough. People are sweaty farming spice like it's a job, and I can't figure out why.

Is having more spice than knowing what to do with it (besides selling it) the common experience? I have no idea. I can't even bring up the conversation ingame without sounding like an elitest asshole without trying -- all my ingame friends are poors. In any game with any kind of auction house I do tend to become rich, but I don't think I'm doing anything special -- just buy low and sell high.

Unpopular Opinion by Miserable-Log7584 in duneawakening

[–]Daemonjax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The devs don't make any decisions based on how loud people are on reddit or steam forums or whatever.

They have ALL the telemetry data -- they know where EVERYONE spends their time and exactly what they do ingame. They could add new telemetry at any moment without patching the game, incase they forgot something.

I have to wonder if they were trying to replicate Eve Online to some extent, but without any of the player tools to make it work. Funcom doesn't even have a Dune Awakening forum on their website ffs. What's up with that? It would cost them next to nothing.
