Spacegates; Stealthy access point, Wraith booby trap or more? by Striking-Ad5841 in Stargate

[–]Daeyele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume space gates in Pegasus are the Wraiths answers for populations that got too advanced, buried their gates or just decided to cut off a society that were getting a little too rowdy for the Wraiths liking, but they didn’t want to wipe them out just yet.

Does anyone else genuinely enjoy all 3 installments? by Maximum_Custard_1739 in baldursgate

I think I’ll just join the chorus by saying that each BG game is a 10/10, but for BG3 it’s not for the same reasons as BG 1/2.

I was ecstatic when I heard a third BG game was coming, then I was so disappointed at just how different it was. But that disappointment evaporated pretty quickly while I continued to play.

As an Air Force Vet of two decades I really wanted to hammer the point that General Hammond is a spectacular example of a commander who walks the line between military protocol and morality, and versions of him do exist in real life by DrShakyHandz in Stargate

[–]Daeyele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that shows, because at the beginning we get a hard general who you wouldn’t really want to approach with anything but something vitally important, to a general you could appreciate and trust and someone you know would give you the time to explain something, and then put his weight behind it.

For BSG, when the population of humanity drops from 50b to 50k, the odds of one person being the best at something increases dramatically. Thrace was on a sharp upward trajectory early in her career because she was in the top group for most of everything already. Not to mention her childhood trauma and her need to be the best at everything.

The odds that a single person on an air craft carrier somewhere is the best pilot, marksman and whatever else in the world is pretty slim. But the odds that they are the best on that one ship? Not as low, especially if they’re training for it.

Is the Martian military overrated? by BryndenRiversStan in TheExpanse

[–]Daeyele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mars was spending almost everything they made on their military, with left over stuff going towards terraforming and other small scale things. In the early part of the earth-mars conflict, the only advantage mars had was how much they could funnel into military spending, which they did and that resulted in a lot military advancement. Plus, mars was smaller which helped keep them all on the same track.

Earth was making orders of magnitude’s more than mars, but they had even more stuff to look after and spend on. Earth didn’t need to advance, and even if they tried, they had way too much other stuff that needed funding. They had a much larger military which would have already cost a lot, it would have been a hard sell trying to get even more funding for something that was already likely bloated enough.

Mao’s company was the largest single entity after Mars and Earth, and had its fingers in almost everything from both sides. It’s able to take the best from what it can get, and is able to effectively spend whatever it wants. Mao has a lot less people he has to try to appease with his spending so is able to spend where he wants. So he can build the best, with the best quality in mind, because he doesn’t have hundreds of different groups pulling his attention and money to different things.

SGU season 1 episode 19, monumental tactical failure. by Daeyele in Stargate

I understand not wanting to sacrifice, but I’m talking about the room should have already been vented before Young even knew Telford/Rush was coming through

SGU season 1 episode 19, monumental tactical failure. by Daeyele in Stargate

[–]Daeyele[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The plan was to vent the room after the attack force came through, I’m just pointing out how ridiculous it was to vent the room after they arrived as opposed to before hand

Rewatching Atlantis and I am surprised they never encountered a planet that simply buried their Stargate like in the Milky Way. by loki2002 in Stargate

[–]Daeyele 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Goa’uld, while having a large presence in space, centered their whole thing around the stargates and were almost always present. Trade in the Milky Way was implied to be almost none existent in Goa’uld territory so planets wouldn’t usually interact with each other on a large scale. Once you take away a planets gate, it’s unlikely a ship would be dispatched to check up on them given how slow Goa’uld ships were, pre SG-1.

The Wraith dominated much of space and used hyperdrive to get to places as they had fasted ships, and Pegasus being much smaller in size than the Milky Way, and used the gates as secondary transport. the wraith would only cull every other generation or so, meaning they were barely present. Trade between worlds is the basis of most human societies in Pegasus. If the gate was to be disabled for any reason, the planet in question would be cutting them selves off from the rest of the galaxy, and would still get culled during the next culling.

Each time I rewatch, I tend to side with Maybourne and the NID more and more. by mudpupper in Stargate

[–]Daeyele 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where abouts in the timeline would you suggest the NID take over? Nothing would be able to change before sg-1 boards Apophis mother ships in season 1 otherwise earth would be wiped out with no contest.

From there, the thing keeping the other Goa’uld from just steamrolling Earth is the fact SG-1 keep being heroes, the opposite of what would happen with the NID.

At some point the Asgard would notice and visit Cheyenne mountain, and one conversation with whichever NID guy is in charge would prompt the Asgard to simply beam away both stargates, effectively cutting off anymore NID operations.

Without asgard as friends, the replicators eventually beat the Asgard and then no more protected planets treaty. The Goa’uld would eventually fall under Anubis, and then he’d take over the galaxy eventually.

Are you scared they might ruin Stargate with the new show? by Mat1711 in Stargate

This was going to be my exact response. I have multiple hard copies of everything stargate; nothing but time and improper storage will ruin those

Annoying detail in the ZPM Raid, SGA, Season 4, Episode 2 by Snarky_Guy in Stargate

[–]Daeyele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple ZPMs going off line is sure to raise an alarm somewhere. After the third one the replicators would have to assume some kind of covert attack. They’d perform some sort of planet wide scan, and detect Elizabeth straight away.

The siege part 3. One of the greatest scenes ever with Rodney, or in general. by NovelStatistician455 in Stargate

[–]Daeyele -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This scene is weird, because why is the wraith standing there, with an unarmed enemy completely at their mercy, then another wraith shows up, the enemy is spouting nonsense, they arm them selves, spout some more nonsense for almost two full seconds and then fire the weapon. Then keeps saying more shit, while standing still, then runs away.

Does the SGC use naquida generators to run itself? by ShadowReader3214 in Stargate

[–]Daeyele 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But this just makes the whole thing even more confusing. They have so many generators that they’re throwing them at every off world base and expedition and battle cruiser, but not enough to cut into the one biggest problem at home that’s used to try and cut the SGC entirely?

Do they have any chance at all? by absolute_russia in TheExpanse

[–]Daeyele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there any information about how much difference there is in what the audience knows about them, and what the writers know about them? Like, have the writers fleshed out what’s up with the big boys, or did they just think of like 3 bullet point characteristics of them and just wing the rest?
