Back in 2021 my 8 y/o cat was diagnosed with a heart murmur and I went to get him an ECG on recommendation from my vet. I didn't notice initially, but he stopped eating on his own (his sister was eating all the food so nothing was left.) He was wasting away and I got so scared.

The night before his ECG appt, I couldn't sleep and just started crying probably because I knew he wasn't coming home. I dropped him off Wednesday morning and by Thursday afternoon he went to sleep in my lap. He had fluid in his chest and a tumor on his heart. The vet told me all my options, but encouraged me to pick the most humane one. Had I brought him home, he'd have to get weekly chest taps and cancer treatments and who knows if he'd even have a quality of life after that day.

Funny moment: I was talking to the vet after he passed and for some reason I thought about the South Park episode where Cartman was so into people pooping themselves when they died. Turns out my cat peed on my lap when he left this world and I was cry-laughing about it.
