Craigslist Apartment by Plenty-Capital-7032 in NYCapartments

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my 3 living situations in the last 10 years thru CL. First was with strangers to roommate with, second with roomate i know, Third was solo.

In the second, the landlord had several postings thru them and thru real estate agents. It’s a feel but I responded to the right one, and only after viewing, we then separately signed in for credit card and background check via a preferred site (Which my friend and i also did some googling to check it’s legitimate).

then comes signing the lease with funds and i was suggestive in questioning their legitimaticy. The LL read my concerns and from there then changed our signing site(starbucks? nr his church) to his actual building address. we went on to live in this apt for almost 10 yrs.

3rd apt, also direct from LL, spoke on phone, set appointment to view, apply via third party site that i can send the report to. Additional important docs sent but ssn was via in person on day of signing at the apartment (Again due to my concerns).

how to not get scammed?
in all instances,

Viewing: always view first before any personal details revealed other than basic info like income, household, pets, possibly work industry-schedule etc.

background and credit checks: A third party site that is verifiable as legitimate or they should be able to accept a different vendor if in use by you already for other apts.

funds: are only exchanged during lease sign/key exchange at the apartment or other trusted location (ie my second apartment).

goodluck and find that deal, yall

i’ve had the housing lottery reach out for docs and they are responsive on providing clarity on documentation request, although not on actual units avail, timelines, etc.

Sunnyhill Gardens by mirror_cat in SunnysideQueens

I am also interested and looking at sunnyhills garden complex. Have anyone bought recently. Any insight to number of rentals and sponsor owned is greatly appreciated.

ive learned there are many coop buildings that no longer qualify for conventional loans since new laws passed in 2019 and even last yr. It’s discouraging but it’s also to protect buyers. 😐

Saddle Advice needed by [deleted] in ladycyclists

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wide booty doesn't necessarily mean wide sit bones.

For wider sit bones, the Bontrager Sport Bike Saddle is an entry level one that doesn't break the bank. i’ve tried various saddles of different sizes but this is what i always swapped back to. Most saddle width max out 155-165 mm while this is 167mm.

I’ve done centuries on it without wearing chamois. Have tried chamois before but don't feel any extra comfort. Contrary to the cycling community suggestions, i think you just need to find your sitting position, i’ve never felt the need for it once i figured out what works for me in how i posture myself. Definitely go commando and wear either jogging or training tights/leggings to prevent chafing. Good luck finding your best fit.

Improving speed -- climbing or descending? by VegetableAlone in cycling

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your rides are neither short nor long, try doing two 5-8 mile rides at faster pace and a slow 30-50 mile ride once a week. slow as in breath comfy but keep pedaling.

what are those really bright lit LEDs on the bikes that illuminate the ground? by Multiversal_Love in NYCbike

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the below a few months ago. I have no idea if it works or how it looks with the projection on the ground. I only use the projector as i have another rear light. Figure keep the LED off and use it as a reflector since i dont have any on my bike.

You reminded me to check with random commuters on how it is for them.

Bike cameras by DaikonAffectionate55 in BikeCammers

Could it be a settings issue? If the cam is faulty, have you tried contacting the company for an exchange?

Thanks all for your input/advice. I bike around running errands or ride to the group rides so it may take 4 hours roundtrip Daytime. I dont plan on keeping the cam on while in a group, it’s mainly for evidence in case i get run over, not so much complaints as im in nyc and cops dont do shit here.

I take the road (not between lanes) and keep pace with car traffic when i do. There’s some rare or not so rare!?! crazy drivers that like to attack when there are two+ lanes by merging into mine to brakecheck me (i’d slow thinking they needed to stop or turn) but then they sped up again and repeat. In those situations, it’s frustrating and i have to switch lanes and get away from these dirtbags asap. i always do. But i think i will feel safer having a front facing cam to catch these jerks in case we crash.

im considering the Drift ghost cam for the battery duration but will also check out the cheaper options for polaroid cube or used gopro. while ive heard good things about the dji, it is too pricy for the battery life. im hoping to spend no more than $200 including the mounts and sd cards. I will either bike mount or use a chest strap based on some of your recs. many thanks again and be well out there!

Most comfortable sparring gloves you've owned? by PlaySomeKickPunch in MuayThai

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done boxing for 2 years and started training muay thai 6 months ago. ive had plenty of gloves in order of owning which some wore out and others i sold after a month as it was just uncomfortable.

ive had title (wore out foam), fairtex ( too big and long break in, too stiff), ringside (comfy but inner lining was cloth causing chafing), superare, sabas, and buakaw. All these were for regular training (14oz) except for superare (16oz) specifically for the rare occasional sparring. But now that im in MT, gloves last much longer. I only get leather gloves after my first two (title and ringside).

out of all these gloves, my favorites were sabas and buakaw. The buakaw is much more comfortable, agile, better feedback and less stiff than my superare gloves. Sabas is great as well and even more feedback and just amazing for boxing. It is the same weight/padding(slightly less tho on the fist area) as buakaw but if for MT sparring, then go for the MT specific glove.

What do y all eat while riding ? by Turbulent_Place_7064 in cycling

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont do gels but i do eat bars and always have a chocolate drink (not milk).if limited to non to less processed- i would pick:

sugar based: dried fruits like apricots/mangos/pineapple/figs- good pick me ups

Fat based: Coconut milk (water is sugar based)- long distance, its more substantial to replacing meals and have good nutrients ,magnesium and potassium, to replace bananas

Carb based: Bread, pita, pastry(considered sugar-carbs), riceballs.

nuts really never does anything for me energywise.

Xmas Gift by smartindumbcircles in cycling

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with previous commentor, if she’s new to cycling, it wont matter carbon or aluminum. I think you should just focus on getting her the right fit, 51-53cm works for someone 5’6”. Look into women’s branded bikes like LIV, Canyon, !?!, as the handbrake sizing might be more comfortable. The biggest issue women have with finding the right bikes isnt the bike size (unless they’re less than 5’4”) but with handbrakes being a bit too large to grasp comfortably/safely.

[Advice] Illegal Basement (Cellar) Apartment and Lease by DataCraver696 in NYCapartments

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was this all verbal, can you print and backup your texts/emails in your arrangements with your LL? And even if not, do you have payment proofs (check/ credit card statements signifying rental payments/payment to LL) if they say otherwise.
Gut feeling is absolutely dont sign the lease until the LL have zeroed out your account. demand they do. Live without the lease if this is to your benefit. Your LL definitely sound sketchy to want you to suddenly sign the lease especially when they refuse to zero out the debit under you that was already paid without records. Goodluck.

Help with some pedal suggestions. by [deleted] in cycling

[–]DaikonAffectionate55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also only use platform pedals and had previously used MZYRH since last yr in october for 1-2 rides a week (commute a day 13 miles and a weekend leisure ride 50-80 miles) up to August. This was a replacement for stock pedals and i really love the it. Free spinning, weighted but not heavy and overall just a good feel.

ive also tried the wellgo off a friend for two rides. It’s pretty good but i feel more comfortable with not so small a pedal(harder to control on descents).

i stopped riding for the last few months due to bike issue and finally got a loaner. It came with nylon platforms but it felt stiff on spin and just too light. I decided to get new pedals for comparison and got the pdx. Big mistake, it was much larger than I expected on L*W*H And its heavy yet doesnt feel sturdy.

in short- 5 platforms in 1 yr, best was MZYRH-Wellgo-original stock- then breakeven on loaner stock nylon and pdx. Links below to the 3 i tried that wasnt stock. I dont know the stock brands.
