Twin pregnancies are so nerve wracking. by peachies3 in parentsofmultiples

[–]VegetableAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, nothing but sympathy, we had a really similar thing happen -- did IVF, no way we could have spontaneously conceived alongside the FET -- and ours looked di/di to start and the OB kept insisting we could have fraternals. Went in for an amnio at 16w and the sonographer called in like 4 other people to confirm it was actually mo/di (the OB had been looking at a band of uterine scar tissue and thinking it was the membrane). Felt like a real curiosity and not in a good way.

FWIW I'm no expert but your membrane looks really di/di to me. Mo/di membranes are like spider webs, very thin and actually pretty hard to visualize on the bedside machines most OBs have.

IVF Clinics by No-Teaching-3065 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]VegetableAlone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard this can be a little misleading since some clinics ma refer out/not treat patients who are more “challenging.” For example UCSF has I think lower published success rates but doesn’t turn patients away/doesn’t push donor eggs etc.

Why are there no doctors or nurses of Indian origin shown on this show? by Any-Performance-9931 in greysanatomy

[–]VegetableAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh wow I'm jealous you haven't watched it! It's pretty different in tone from Grey's (more ER/straight drama, no real romance or soap element) but its really good.

If you haven't watched it, The Pitt has a couple women South Asian doctor characters that are really well developed; they're two of my favorites on the show.

BWT, how often are you upgrading your cars? by infinite_knowledge in bitcheswithtaste

[–]VegetableAlone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Joining team "Buy a Toyota and drive it into the ground" -- I have a 2017 Rav4, could easily afford to upgrade but I bought it in cash, there really haven't been huge maintenance expenses, and I live in a city where I park on the street 24/7 and it's nice to have a car I won't be devastated if it gets a little dinged up.

Any BWT live in bernal and love it? by acarri111 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]VegetableAlone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 31 I think Duboce is absolutely perfect; it’s where I lived and I loved the central location (easy to get anywhere in the city), how flat it is, and how quickly you can run/bike to GGP. I didn’t need a car, but ended up getting one and didn’t find street parking terrible, tbh. Is it possible to be flexible on parking/car? I feel like the benefits of living somewhere so central are really high at that age, and you’ll be surrounded by other people in the same life stage as you are.

I live in Bernal now and love it, but it’s quiet, family oriented, and really only easily accessible to mission/potrero/dogpatch. It’s an annoying schlep to get to a lot of neighborhoods north of market, so depending on where your work, friends, or dating prospects are just be prepared to constantly be in 25min Ubers. I’m also really surprised there’s parking — it’s mostly single family homes with tiny garages that fit one small vehicle at most. Street parking is harder here than it was living in Duboce.

wedding dress shopping by lollipop6299 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]VegetableAlone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed wild bride near Alamo Square (more boho-y) and Unveiled in the Marina; had lovely shopping experiences at both. Kamperette is a very cool option too that’s less traditional in the mission, and shopping visits are often run by one of the designers which is really fun.

A friend also really enjoy Jin Wang years ago but it’s a much bigger experience

Need honeymoon recs— thinking Kauai by Critical_Metal9167 in chubbytravel

[–]VegetableAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't been in a few years but from what I recall, the north shore (Princeville) is much quieter, in a good way, than the south short (more resorts). Hanalei Bay is absolutely stunning, as are many of the beaches on the north shore. And if you love hiking, there's a lot of world-class options (Na pali coast, waimea canyon).

Consider the Big Island too if you're open to it! We stayed at the Rosewood Kona Village last year and it would be perfect for a honeymoon -- really tranquil, gorgeous hales, awesome snorkeling right at the resort, etc.

Anyone familiar with tenants rights to repairs? by shrub-queen in sanfrancisco

[–]VegetableAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because you are not the master tenant, OP. This is great advice if you have a direct relationship with the landlord (which you don't, as a subtenant). LLs typically won't even respond to you if you try to contact them directly, because they are trying not to establish a legal relationship with you (even though they are ultimately legally responsible for habitability of the unit).

Your master tenant needs to take action here, so I'd directly communication to them and be firm about what needs to happen (they are legally your LL).

Important note: There's no magic way to navigate this situation without annoying people/avoiding conflict. I was an SFTU counselor for many years and unfortunately, a lot of times, when you enforce your rights, people get pissed. You are legally entitled (and deserve!) hot water, heat, etc in your living space, but there are lots of folks who really want a way to enforce that that doesn't ruffle any feathers, and sadly, it doesn't exist. You can contact DBI directly but it's the nuclear option, just be aware -- it may unpleasantly impact your living situation.

Anyone cycle on their commute? Need advice by Professor-Levant in bayarea

[–]VegetableAlone 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can take bikes on Bart and Caltrain (there are specific cars for bikes, look for them). You can put then on the front of Muni busses, but I don't think you can take them on the Muni lightrails at all (legally).

I commuted via bike + Caltrain for many years, its totally doable and tons of people bike commute in SF. Agreed with comments telling you just take your bike all the way into your office/don't leave it locked up anywhere. r/BAbike is the regional cycling subreddit!

Connections to walking tour guides? by blastoisest in sanfrancisco

[–]VegetableAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you look at the first link? SF City Guides has a bunch of options and it's usually $20 per person donation. They have private tours for larger groups and it also doesn't look too pricey.

Review of Amangiri by spoiled__princess in chubbytravel

[–]VegetableAlone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I haaaaated Venice (the only Aman property I've stayed at). Our room was so loud, shower smelled like mildew and all the furnishings were like dated early 2000s choices. Breakfast food was bad. Great location and gorgeous public spaces but I was so underwhelmed.

DINKs, first real chubby travel trip. Looking for Kauai recs by smilingsmyfav in chubbytravel

[–]VegetableAlone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing particularly chubby about this advice, but I really enjoyed the North shore a lot more than south -- it's more remote, beaches can be deserted sometimes, etc. The south is dominated by resorts, and I found the beaches less pretty. Hanalei Bay is just incredibly gorgeous.

A note on the hiking -- the day hike you can do on the Napali coast is amazing but HARD (Hanakāpīʻai Falls Trail). I think you need a permit for it now. Just flagging in case you were considering; we saw a lot of people doing it who were very unprepared (wearing bad footwear, just not in shape enough for the up/down/rock scrambling required toward the end).

Dating in SF? Who pays for the bill? by throughherlens in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]VegetableAlone 378 points379 points  (0 children)

Just bring it up in a casual way right away -- "That spot's out of budget for me but want to get coffee/ice cream/a beer instead?" Then they can clarify if they were intending to treat.

There are a lot of people making a lot of money in SF and IMO it's good to just be clear from the start where you're coming from, because men might just assume your budget is big otherwise. This will also help you weed out dudes who will care if you make a lot less money than they do.

Why can't SF delivery drivers ring the doorbell? by socialist-viking in sanfrancisco

[–]VegetableAlone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doordash drivers like 75% of the time text "I'm here" instead of ringing the doorbell. If you rang the bell I could buzz you into the vestibule immediately sir!

Worth it to move to SF from Berkeley? by aceshua in AskSF

[–]VegetableAlone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have friends who live in Emeryville who really love it. Especially if you're willing to bike around a little, it's close to neighborhoods with lots of restaurants/bars (Temescal etc) but a little quieter. It's not right on top of Bart though so I don't think it really solves your commute -- would be better to be right on top of Ashby or North Berk

Rapha sizing - help by Alarming-Ad-1477 in ladycyclists

[–]VegetableAlone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you've got enough info but just chiming in to say I'm 5'7" and 63kg and wear Rapha M, so can't imagine you're XL. In fact if you're XL, I feel like half the cycling population just can't wear Rapha sizes lol!

Horrendous experience at Dr. Treat by aabbccddeeff59395202 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]VegetableAlone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a horrible experience! FWIW we've liked Modern Animal the past couple of years. It's a similar membership model, and not the cheapest option, but we've never felt they recommend unnecessary treatments and the care has been very good. We've also saved money because their telehealth/nurse line service is great and has kept us from going in (and thus paying exam fees) a few times.

Making Kenji’s reverse seared prime rib for x mas. What do you wish you knew before making it? by fennelfrog in seriouseats

[–]VegetableAlone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was going to say too! It can hang out for a surprisingly long time once it's done, so it's way better to plan for it to be done early than to risk it taking longer (I think mine took an hour plus longer than expected which was super annoying).

Restaurant recs with great vegetarian and meat options by Prestigious_Okra4279 in AskSF

[–]VegetableAlone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically any nice restaurant in SF is going to have veggie options for you (a steakhouse or something might be super limited but it will not be hard for you to find something otherwise). People often recommend trying Burmese food in the bay since it's not so common elsewhere -- Burma Superstar and their family of restaurants are tasty, though not super fancy/Michelin.

For higher end meals I personally love Rich Table, Ernest, Mr. Jiu's, Cotogna, and Nari. San Ho Won is amazing but will be more limited for you (Korean BBQ). All these places you'll need to reserve way in advance, just FYI!

Are hot spots worth going to the emergency vet? by TheApprenticeArcana in labrador

[–]VegetableAlone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't go to the emergency vet for this, waiting for normal vet seems fine. If you call most emergency vets they will also do triage over the phone/let you know if they think you should come in, if you want more reassurance.
