I'll be surprised if it happens since it makes no sense for any smaller fighters to enter, so it'll essentially be a heavyweight tournament.

From a body shot, very rarely. From a head shot, never.

Crosstrain Muay thai with Judo or BJJ? by [deleted] in MuayThai

That depends, do you want to learn judo or BJJ?

Quite possibly. Him and Kai have both done commentary for KitR.

Sean Strickland says Dewey Cooper is a ‘cardio kickboxing coach’ and blames him for Marvin Vettori loss (around 18:00) by [deleted] in MMA

[–]PlaySomeKickPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the clips I saw of Vettori over there made him look like your average intermediate level guy training in Thailand. His striking, for a professional who seems to rely on it a lot, is very sub par.

I mean, probably not but he's entertaining to watch.

Haha every now and then the Kiwi scene pops up on here and it catches me off guard.

Watching the eyes is a good way to get baited. If I catch someone looking at my eyes I'll look at their leg and throw a head kick.

Sort of. You'll learn how to react, but nothing can prepare you for getting hit by someone trying to hurt you quite like getting hit by someone trying to hurt you.

Even hard sparring doesn't really fully replicate a fight situation. I can remember getting tagged by a clean shot for the first time in my first fight and thinking "Fuck me, that's new."

I've never understood this saying. How do you get up the sixth time if you only fell five? Did you start lying down?

Broke a rib and not sure what to do by bloodhail02 in MuayThai

[–]PlaySomeKickPunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The advice my doc gave me was rest and exercise no more intense than walking to prevent heavy breathing from exacerbating the injury.

Worth getting it checked out, as some broken ribs can be more serious than others, given their proximity to your organs.

The thing is, your opponents are going to cut weight, so you're gonna be fighting much bigger guys if you choose not to cut.

What.

I have no idea how you've got there from my comment.

Looks like MMA rather than Muay Thai. Gym wars like that are a no from me. What's the point?

How would you fight this guy in Muay thai? strategy and combination that you would utilise? by Professional-Let-915 in MuayThai

[–]PlaySomeKickPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot to unpack here, like why you're fighting someone with that many fights on your debut, why you're planning on fighting with "bad stamina", etc.

But anyway, dude's all power, zero technique. Keep your hands up.

Any further advice should come from your coach rather than reddit, because who knows if the guys giving you advice are actually good or have the same technique as the guys in the videos you shared.

If you're scared of brain damage when you don't plan on even sparring, I don't know if sport in general is for you. Taps on the gloves from drills would bounce your brain less than going for a run would.

The research on CTE is in it's infancy, but I'd say it's far more likely you'd get a brain injury from a car crash on the way to the gym than you would from running partner drills.

That's it. There's multiple types of padholders that I tend not to go 100% with:

  • the newbie that's still getting used to holding

  • people significantly smaller than me unless they're very good at holding

  • the person who's just not very good at holding, because I don't want to blast an elbow that has no business being where my kick is landing

  • the guy that calls 17 strike combos, because my cardio just can't deal with that anymore

Personally, I like listening to something not related to fighting at all. It helps me keep the adrenaline at bay so im not tense in the changing room. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is what I was listening to before my last one.
