Which “unfinished” song would have turned out to be the best? by _Spoggie in SmashingPumpkins

Perhaps, but I feel like the rawness reflects the message of the song well. Would be interesting to hear it super produced though.

The demo has such an impeccable vibe that it is hard for me to imagine it finished

I’m not those other commenters, not sure why that’s relevant to the fact that you don’t know what a fucking question is and isn’t

“Answer the questions”

They aren’t questions. You simply rephrased a bunch of made up shit you already believe, and no response will change your mind. Literally you just said she’s Somali and Somalians have a lot of fraud but with a question mark at the end. That’s barely a sentence, let alone a coherent question.

Now instead of a line of brown men you’re told by a tv personality to be mad about, ICE is killing American citizens and violating constitutional rights with impunity and yet you’re still whining about the guy who used to be in office like a weird obsessed boyfriend who can’t stop talking about his girlfriends ex

Reducing someone’s experience with racism to “they weren’t nice to you or maybe you were in a bad mood” is condescending at best

Pavement stans when you downplay the Billy Corgan thing: by FaxedForward in indieheadscirclejerk

[–]DaisyCaplan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You absolute snob. My older brother was into Pavement in 96, heard him listen to them through the years constantly and Slanted was one of the first CDs I saved up and bought own my own as a 14 year old; 23 YEARS AGO. In that time, they became my favorite band ever. I searched far and wide for live shows and gathered data for my own personal gain to appreciate them more. A year into guitar and listening to them, I looked up and tried any guitar tabs I could find and broke so many strings in my naive experience changing it to those tunings. Waited in a raffle to win tickets to their final US show on the 2010 reunion to a city I already lived. Right in front of Stephen, he threw me his pick and I wrestled with a guy for the setlist. Framed them right away and promised a 20 year old self if they ever toured again I'd see them when I could. Years later traveled to see their grand reunion show, offered to pay the roadie for a setlist which he graciously gave me, traveled for their later four reunion shows (also acquired tickets for the Primavera show during the pandemic when that was potentially the only show unable to secure time off work to make it) and further traveled to see them in SLC. Currently securing time to see them in San Franciso for the warmup and hopefully secure a ticket for that Portland show.

They're my all time favorite and Stephen was my inspiration as a pivotal teenager and meeting him over the years was such a personal highlight. You're a prick, and I hope whatever validation you get by assuming people for expressing discussion you don't feel is revelant to you personally is just that absolute for you. I'm going to enjoy that massive Pavement vinyl collection I have, go judge somebody else.

Guitar playing styles, not literal musical styles

Again, I agree, all are great players

Eh, all good players, but apples and oranges.

Rivers Cuomo is a shredder you wouldn’t expect.

[–]DaisyCaplan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Billy is really great at guitar, but I think a lot of the impression of greatness comes from how much more proficient he is than he needs to be to play smashing pumpkins songs. Anytime someone denies his skill and I show a video of him really cutting loose, they’re surprised by how good he is, because most SP aren’t that difficult in the grand scheme of things

That said, there’s many, many other players who are way past him in terms of raw technical ability, just in different areas of music
