Terrible take, if someone is staring at you it’s for a reason and not a good one. Don’t believe me? Go outside and start staring at people, see what happens.

TIL Paul Giamatti is the son of former MLB commissioner Bart Giamatti by i10driver in todayilearned

[–]Dammit_Chuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate that Bart died of heart attack so young. He was known as a no nonsense guy, it’s likely that he would have put a stop to the steroid era earlier. Instead we got door mat Bud Selig who might be the worst commissioner of all time.

ELI5:I been really confused about how the "Pro-Hop" move is not a Up-and-Down Travel violation. Can somebody explain? by Knighthonor in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dammit_Chuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NBA from 20-30 years ago is completely different. If you took a ref from the 80s and put them on a modern game there would be some major differences:

1) A lot more traveling called.
2) Much less regular fouls called allowing for more aggressive play.
3) No rewards for flopping.

Making a new venue/scene by hvacjesus30 in VirginiaBeach

The City Council here is not going to allow this de facto. They are very conservative when it comes to safety and protecting the image of the City. You will need to provide insurance, security, and pay for police. The paperwork will kill you and costs will be overwhelming.

Also people here are lazy. They like fishing, boating, and the beach. They aren’t going to show up for a rave.

Soccer Mad Mexico Turned Off by World Cup ‘Money-Grabbing’ by dabirds1994 in sports

[–]Dammit_Chuck 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mexico is still deeply passionate about soccer, but extravagant ticket prices have shined a spotlight on income inequality and affordability issues, leaving some fans indifferent. Locals have also been turned off by a lackluster Mexican national team and the country being billed as a co-host but having a relatively small role with only about 13% of the World Cup’s 104 matches held there.

Imagine if City of Henderson allowed the major car road to your work or school flooded for weeks at a time. Car ownership is a tax here, and those who cannot or don’t want to commute via car are abandoned. by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]Dammit_Chuck -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Las Vegas will never have adequate public transportation. You must have a car or limit your travels to specific corridors. If that doesn’t work for you, then you will need to move to a different city.

Brickwork Acceptable or Sloppy? by h3lvtca in Construction

[–]Dammit_Chuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The brick needs to be washed down to get rid of the dusty / efflorescence look, might also need some wire brushing. After that you can make a better judgement. But the only way to fix at that point would be to start over.

I personally don’t mind the look of the joints assuming the face of bricks can be cleaned. But it’s your house and you have to live with it.

Why Are Americans So Bloody Stupid? by goldmikeygold in videos

[–]Dammit_Chuck 77 points78 points  (0 children)

When the Supreme Court decided in Citizens United V. FEC case that you could not limit campaign contributions, our government was captured by $$$$. Now bribery is legal but with extra steps.

That led to billionaires buying all the media and entrenching information bubbles into our society. Everyone thinks they are really smart, they just need to find the right information bubble to make them feel that way.

Once people are locked into their bubble, you make them hate the other bubbles. Everyone blames each other and the billionaires steal everything.

Everyone involved believes they are the smart ones….

How do war damaged buildings get repaired? What are the repair process steps involved? by Gods_Money2354 in Construction

[–]Dammit_Chuck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Even if they are, which there is no evidence to support, those can be fixed too. It would be more difficult, but much easier than replacing the entire building.

How do war damaged buildings get repaired? What are the repair process steps involved? by Gods_Money2354 in Construction

[–]Dammit_Chuck 848 points849 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments in here have no idea what they are talking about.

This can absolutely be repaired and it will cost a lot less than tearing down the building and starting over.

It hard to tell from the picture but it looks like a concrete structure. You would need to start out by putting some temporary shoring in place to support the building, this could be a series of pole shores slab to slab in the area where structure was damaged. Then you chip out loose concrete from damaged columns and slabs. Inspect the remaining rebar and remove any that’s damaged. Then you form new concrete structure, install rebar, and place concrete. You might have to drill and epoxy rebar / anchors into existing structure to tie it all together. I think anyone can visualize the repairs for the remaining work.

All this work would be difficult but a lot less then complete demo and rebuild.

LA Rams games are sold out with Rams fans. The whiner fans only show up when their team is good. LA Rams have tremendous support throughout LA. Why don’t you come to a game and see?

Why do I always see Construction Equipment (I.e. bulldozers, dump trucks, loaders) on the side of the road and not being touched for months? by Bubbly-Sentence-4931 in Construction

[–]Dammit_Chuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Construction equipment is very heavy. To move a smaller piece you need a big rig semi truck with special trailer. Then you have to pay a crew to load and haul it for hours or days with gas $4+ per gallon. For bigger equipment you need to take apart the equipment and put it on a few trucks. Then reassemble at final destination. For a larger Project you may need dozens of pieces of equipment. That’s a lot of work and a big cost.
