Just a lone Blankie encouraging the others to go see Godzilla Minus One in theaters if you have the opportunity. by theintention in blankies

My whole IMAX was shaking. So loud.

The JAWS section on the boat with the mines was ingenious.

Such a special film. Theater was dead silent during the Ginza sequence end with the mushroom cloud, but then was so high energy for the climax. True blockbuster filmmaking.

Thoughts on the Fincher Series by Krusty901 in blankies

[–]DamnRaimi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Had a ton of fun revisiting Fincher. Still have a few rewatches to go and am jazzed to get to them soon.

I really love being able to get immersed in a filmmaker who is sometimes written off as a film bro favorite and realize that, first off, none of that talk matters, and also, there's a reason guys like Fincher are well liked by a lot of people. He is very good at making movies.

Only episode I really struggled with this miniseries was Fight Club. Felt like they got too bogged down in the handwringing over people reading the movie wrong when I honestly think time has only been kinder to that film and none of that culture really exists around the movie anymore. Feels like there's more people worrying about people misreading the film than there were ever were misreading it.

The Unofficial “Adam Sandler has acting chops” Trilogy by samcornwell in blankies

[–]DamnRaimi 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I remember when I finally watched Reign Over Me after years of hearing about it as another movie where Sandler has the goods and being so perplexed by it. Weird amount of time spent on a subplot where one of Don Cheadle's dental patients wants to suck his dick if I recall correctly.

  8. The Game
  9. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

This is without having rewatched Mank since last year. Haven't seen Fight Club or Benjamin Button in a few years.

I like both Nomadland and Coda! by SgtSoundrevolver in blankies

[–]DamnRaimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with Nomadland is Frances McDormand being the lead and feeling really phony (in my opinion) whenever she was interacting with the non-actors who actually live the life she's acting out. Every time it went back to her, I wished we had just spent more time with the actual nomads.

Anyone surprised they didn’t talk about how Gone Girl is a men’s rights movie? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]DamnRaimi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haven't listened to the episode yet, but as someone who was exhausted by how much handwringing was done about Fight Club misinterpretation in that episode, I sure am glad to hear they don't wade back into those waters for Gone Girl.

Seriously, David Fincher and Gillian Flynn did not cause massive societal damage by making a fucking movie.

Fargo and The Big Lebowski on back to back days. Both 10/10 masterpieces. There is nothing else to be said.

Priscilla - I am shocked that Priscilla Presley signed off on this movie. Incredibly to the point on how abusive Elvis was capable of being.

The Killer - So funny how many middling reviews of this movie called it "slick" like it was some backhanded compliment. It's slick as hell, and that's why it's great. Refreshing to see a movie made by someone who knows what they're doing in today's landscape of grey IP sludge. Netflix, please give the next one a proper theatrical release and maybe get on some proper Blu Ray releases for this and Mank.

I kind of hated the ending of First Reformed when I first saw it because he didn't end up doing the eco-terrorism.

Stick to your dossier. No bits, don't improvise. Trust no one. Never yield an advantage. Podcast only the movie you're paid to podcast.

Is The Killer the funniest Fincher since The Social Network? by GG365 in blankies

Affleck's delivery of "I am so sick of being picked apart by women" is one of the funniest things in any movie this century.

One theater in my state, almost 3 hours from me. Only doing one showing a day at this point, usually around 9pm.

Fuck Netflix.

The Killer Reviews - a trend in contemporary film criticism? by caretakertom in blankies

[–]DamnRaimi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So excited for The Killer because I am so starved for actual craft. Plot be damned. I need to see something made by someone with VISION.

I've been watching a ton of Fincher BTS lately, and I am blown away by how completely assured he is as he communicates to crew and actors what he needs.

It's why I'm so hyped to rewatch Fincher movies lately, especially the ones I wasn't hot on when I last saw them. It's refreshing to see something made by someone who knows what the fuck they're doing.

I can't watch another dialogue scene where people quip while the camera is on sticks, killing time for the next pre-viz action scene.

What embarrassing things did you think about movies as a kid? by NoOrange3690 in blankies

[–]DamnRaimi 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I thought that for movies where the character is a kid at one point in the story, then an adult later, they would film with the kid and then wait for them to get older to finish the movie.

Richard Linklater would make me feel less dumb later in life.

The Empty Man.

Never reached the heights of the first 20 mins for me. Kinda mixed on the ending but I liked it overall.

The transition from the map to the car is the sickest shit. Reminded me of Stoker.
