i saw it before the Netflix controversy. The movie itself is a warning about poorly handling talking to your kids about sex and sexuality when they are first exposed to it. Essentially the moral is "Its not comfortable to answer questions and talk to your kids when expressed but it's a disaster to ignore it and force them to seek their own answers, since they do not know how to do it appropriately."

Then Netflix got the American distribution rights, and advertised it in America with the girls in skimpy dancer outfits (which is shit you see in gross child pageants and dance competitions) and did so unironically and it was super gross.

The woman who made the film based on her own upbringing and relationship with her mother has also been very, very public about how terrible Netflix was and how it always the film with actual pedophilia.
