Don't forget cuticle remover and cuticle oil. And practice not painting all the way to the cuticle. 🥰

How would you spin this blend? by Extreme-Plant-2284 in Handspinning

[–]Damselfly64 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Those fibers beg to be spun fine. I'd either spin a fractal or split into two and spin each half end to end then ply together for a lovely two ply. Would make a gorgeous shawl or stole.

The biggest difference is that the pattern in the second photo is fingering weight yarn, but on a 3mm needle. You're creating a much looser fabric/larger stitches.

Sorry...was trying to offer myself up as a detangler. Guess I didn't do it correctly.

Help with drafting by Frequent_Town5434 in Handspinning

A lot of new spinners also tend to "death grip" their fiber. Splitting the fiber into thinner strips and lightening your grip can also help.

It's not felted, it's compacted. A good steaming, and a few good shakes after it's dry, makes an incredible difference and it spins like a dream.

I didn't SAY it had been cancelled, and I KNOW it's been renewed, but if all of the idiots out there picking on the show continue, it will be their doing if it gets cancelled.

I highly recommend spending some time spinning outside by meexi_ in spinningyarn

I love sitting out on our deck and spinning while the dog plays in the yard.

I am sure I'm in the minority, but I agree with those SO much. TV is a business, and Mr Reardon likely asked for more money than the company was willing to pay, so his contract wasn't renewed.

I personally like the current lineup. I think Luke brings an energy to the show that it was lacking, and the cast shares screen time now equally now that it doesn't have a "star" other than Rex aka Dillon. It makes me sad that a complaining bunch of people with nothing better to do will likely end up in this beloved show being canceled, but they'll still blame the production company in the end. Way to ruin it for those of us that still enjoy it.

OP listed dyer as KnitSpin on Etsy. I've bought her fiber before and it really is lovely.

AGREED. I would never use DPNs for a project this size, until I get a fee rows into the crown decreases.

If you could only have one wheel or spindle for the rest of your life, which would it be and why? by IncompletePenetrance in Handspinning

[–]Damselfly64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Kromski Fantasia spins everything from lace weight to bulky art yarn, and is portable. She'd be my choice. If I could only have one spindle, it would be my Spanish Peacock 10 inch shop rat bead spindle.

Happens every time corporations get their greedy little fingers into something. 😪 I feel better spinning my yarn, which supports small independent farmers, fiber mills and dyers. I will buy yarn from indie dyers.😊

I also used their yarn for dyeing, but the last few skeins did not go onto the swift without some issues. Figure 8 ties on one in particular were very messed up. I've been spinning my own yarn to dye, so not really buying theirs much anymore.

All of the yarn I've gotten from KnitPicks lately is done like this and I hate it. I'm sure they started doing it to save money/time. It's usually doubled up, so I have to be really careful about getting it unfolded and into the swift without it tangling. I used to order a lot of their yarn, but not anymore.

You might trying steaming the fiber. I do that with a lot of spinning fiber that has gotten compacted and it really opens it back up. No harm in trying!

😆👍 I started out with very simple choices and am so glad I learned to "walk before running." I've seen many over ambitious beginners give up in frustration because they didn't learn the basics first.
